  • Great explanation! I'm gonna try that tonight.

  • I wonder if he learned to pack from Merry and Pippin...

  • where do i buy a pipe?

  • Now that is an epic mustache.

  • Honky

  • You sir are a pipe zen master. I was able to go to a party with fellow pipe smokers and converse with them while smoking a pipe and not look like an idiot having to constantly relight and relight. If you are ever in Southern Illinois email me and we can hang out...

  • crusty pipe

  • respect sir

  • use a match cus the lighter has taste to it and matches have no taste

  • no steel filter needed?

  • Thanks for the detailed step by step instruction. This is what exactly i was looking for.

  • Great informative video. Thanks!

  • that was very informative, thanks for sharing

  • Whats the intro song?!

  • 'i will show you how to rub that out'

  • i love pipe u know all kinds

  • So, is that a "no" on a Zippo?

  • Love it, love it, love it!

  • Great video! I've had a pipe for a while, but was packing it too hard. Thanks!

    damm it

  • definately a pedofile

  • @kluski347 Definitely can't spell.

  • I don't smoke, but I'm just fascinated by the almost ritualistic methods of pipe and cigar smoking.

  • 1's comin from Amazon! >K))))

  • hey. i tried ur method but i couldnt get it lit. i had small cherry in the bowl and not nearly enough smoke that i usually see being exhaled by pipe smokers. i am not sure what i did wrong... ???

  • Oh I don't need to be shown how to rub it out

  • Can I use the hookah tobacco?

  • I want to start pipe smoking but what tobacco should I start with?

  • @davetownersville I would say stick to a few natural blends, aroma's smoked to fast can cause tounge bite etc and your time should be pleasant, you'll probally smoke wrong...too fast etc so stick to a nice Natural blend.

  • Pipe adds +100 manliness to anyone.

  • Comment removed

  • hash haha

  • Epic mustache.

  • OMG I wanna smoke some shit right now! but its late and my parents are downstairs : ( HAHA I have to hide all my stuff from mom and dad XD

  • 4 people smoke crack

  • I absolutely LOVE your Erik Nording pipe. I would love to have one just like it.

  • use blender easier for you :P

  • @ OldToby:

OK, I have never smoked before and have become interested in pipes and pipe smoking. That being said, I am concerned with the possible health risks. What is your opinion on this?

  • @Tillerman7 tobacco inherently has health risks BUT it is a leaf, with minimal processing compared to ciggerretes and has nothing added - usually tobacco for pipes is placed above a smoking pipe and / or kept in wooden barrells to cure and strengthen for taste and narcotic effect

point is im lifting weights and eating healthy to offset my marijuana and occasional tobacco use

but i feel no problems in aerobic capacity from this tobacco wheres cigs give me an heavy throat/chest cough feeling

  • @Tillerman7

    *smoking FIRE not pipe!

  • @Tillerman7 It's never risk-free to enjoy tobacco. If you're concerned about the health risks, you should probably not smoke. If you still wanna try while minimizing your health risks, smoking pipes is a perfect alternative. First, when smoking pipes and cigars you should never inhale. You smoke for the taste, and most well known dangers of tobacco smoking comes from inhaling into your lungs. Second, you can get pipes with filters, stopping some of the gunk on the way. Cigars don't have this.

  • @Tillerman7 If you're still wondering, I know many users here on Youtube have videos specifically discussing possible health risks of tobacco smoking. They will all agree that there are obvious health risks to tobacco smoking, but no one has found any data saying that pipe smoking - without inhaling - is anywhere near as dangerous as normal cigarette smoking. Snuff tobaccos have some risks too, but the mouth has a harder time "picking up smoke", so pipes MAY be the least dangerous of them. :)

  • I love ur mustache

  • This video helped greatly. Big cigar smoker, but my buddy bought me a pipe and I've been trying to figure it out. Thanks.

  • Smoking right now, very enjoyable. I'm going to have to go right for an English blend though; having been a cigar smoker for awhile, I think I need a more robust tobacco.

  • I was trying to figure this out, and I'm going to give this a try right now. I'm a huge cigar smoker, but I figured smoking a pipe now and then would be a good change of pace. I'll see how this goes.

  • excellent video

  • hahaha rub it out

  • very informative. thanks!

  • I bought a new tobacco pipe but used weed instead of tobacco and it didnt work. I dont know why this is? possibly because weed is harder to light than tobacco, has anyone got any advice? maybe I should try putting the weed at the bottom and tobacco at the top to try and make it light easier?

  • even though I have to admit that I dont smoke tobacco in my tobacco pipe ( ;) ) or tobacco at all; I still have to say thank you - your tips how to fill and light have improved the smoking procedure with my tobacco pipe :D

nice videos you have made - keep em comin :D

  • thanks m8

  • whats the song at the start?

  • they look like seaweed

  • where did u get that pipe i love it

  • Epic Mustache!!!

  • wow that is a beautiful pipe you got there

  • tabacco is really bad for you dude, i saw a guy on tv, he smoked pipes and died from throut cancer, sorry to rain on your parade take it easy though.....

  • Can I use my pipe that I would use for weed? I'm new to pipes for tobacco and the way I see it if I can use that and it works just as good I won't have to go and spend a bunch of money on a seperate pipe for tobacco.

  • @Jctrynr I used one of my pipes for marijuana once but I realized that when you light up weed, it leaves a oily type of resin when done smoking. When you smoke regular tobacco, you will taste weed with it as well. I don't know how to entirely clean out the resin, but if you smoke a few times after smoking weed, it burns the leftover resin oil and takes the flavoring away from your pipe. If you don't mind the added weed flavor, well you have nothing to worry about. The only problem is lighting it

  • @Jctrynr i reckon you can. i got myself a weed pipe, and it works just as well as it does with tobacco. my friend doesnt smoke weed, just tobacco, so yeah. itll do the job fine. but a specified tobacco pipe will always be better

  • Hey Toby! Thanks a bunch for the advice! What is the song that plays in the start and end? Its just marvelous!

  • is it fine to hav your pipe already packed while you're going out

  • seems really classy, and i cant wait till im 18. i only smoke black and milds now, and thats fun. but i wanna smoke a pipe

  • Thanks, really appreciate it!

  • Are you able to use tobacco like you would find in Chew like Skoal or Kodiak ?

  • @VancouverPoland no, you can't use chewing tobacco. But pipe tobacco is pretty cheap, you can get good tobacco for $3 an ounce or around there.

  • Toby, you're the man. I had a pipe and started smoking it about two years ago, loved it, but stopped. Now I'm getting another, and was wondering what your opinion is on the Old World pipes like they have on tophatcigar?

  • that stache is more epic than....... than........ CHUCK NORRIS!!! *dies for insulting chuck*

  • Place your camera near the screen of your pc or if you use a paper sheet... it's a little distracting if you keep looking down to read your script (more like if you have a teleprompter).. other than that. thanks!! i like your moustache..

  • Im gonna smoke a pipe everywhere I go, and sneak a little green in there >:D

  • @trevor2594 only reason ive picked it up

im quite fond of the nostalgiac feel of a pipe!

  • Have you seen the Irish X rope? stong stuff.

  • epic mustache.

  • good video. actually your packing and lighting method is exactly how I do it. lol

never seen the pressed and flake tobacco, was interesting

@purefunk, it tastes/smells good and is relaxing. pretty much same idea as a cigar. most people dont inhale it. I'd probably turn green and fall over dead if I tried. lol

  • lol what are you doing...ahh im just rubbin one out. lmao

  • great method, thanks

  • I love the texture of your smoke at 6:55. How'd you get it so nice and thick? When I smoke, it typically comes out really thin and I'd like to get it much thicker.

  • What does this do for you? Do you like the "old timey" feel to it? or does the smoke smell good to you or what? as a person who never smoked before, i honestly curious.

  • @Purefunk4 It smells good... the flavor it's ok.. I do It because My dad use to do It and I always liked the smell.. and because It's something like a ritual...

  • Reminds me of weed

  • What kind of pipe (wood and maker or carver?) are you using in the demonstration?

  • Hello! Can you tell me the title of that song?

  • 1 person died of cancer

  • Pardon me if I'm being rude but what happed to your hands?

  • I'm a first timer should I smoke a pipe or cigaret what's better for first time at age 17

  • @fish67y a pipe, because cigarettes have more additives in them.

  • @fish67y none

  • Thanks! Great vid. Just bought my first pipe today so this was helpful as I've never smoked a pipe before.

Quick question--how good are you at identifying pipe makers? Mine has a little white clubs symbol (like in playing cards) on the bit... that mean anything?

  • @the0guilty0ones thats a Dr. Grabow pipe.U can get those anywhere.

  • Awesome vid. Thanks.

  • "i will show you how to rub that out"

  • @CyberPohlice guffaw

  • Why would I want a flake tobacco if I just tear it up before smoking? Just part of the experience, or does certain flavors only come that way? Thanks!

  • was nice to watch thanx!!!

  • Very informative. Great camera work for the subject. Thank you!

  • NICE MUSTACHE! matches you with the pipe

  • Damn ligter! Nice vid, thank you so much!

  • Hi, I smoke cigars but I want to ask you what you would recommend pipe wise for a beginner. I want something good but I dont want to pay big money. Can you give me some input.

  • @paulwilliamsd I too am a cigar smoker, and before i dove in and started buying expensive pipes, i started out with a corn cob pipe and a few different flavors of tobacco from my local tobacconist. They are inexpensive and give a nice introduction to pipe smoking, and allow you to give it a whirl before going out and dropping $100 on a pipe. I suggest you pick one up and give it a try.

  • im curious, can you put pipe tobacco in a hand rolled cigarette and smoke it that way ?

  • @StevenHFC1875 Yes you can. Some blends work better than others. I enjoy it when experimenting with mixing blends or just don't have the time for a pipe.

  • a method to fill your pipe faster and with better burning qualities is to take a large amount of tobacco and press it together like a ball and put that then in your pipe with a light pressure; this way you´ll have an air pillow under your tobacco that ensures a very comfortable draw and the tobacco will be easy to lit and burn slowly an colder

to flake: don´t rub it, thats not the way it was thought to be smoked-fold it(colder, more aromatic taste)

try it out someday- for me it works perfectly

  • I could have packed a lip before you even got the bag open. But I may try pipes someday. For now I'll stick with my dip and chew. :)

  • Hi!

I prefer not to scrab my flake but to fold it. That's much more comfortable and works fine. :)

Regarding pressed tobaccos I prefer to them it with a knife instead of breaking and scrubbing it.

Your method of packing the pipe is good. I prefer to use the air pocket method. This always gives a perfect draw. :)

Using a torch works if you know how to use it the right way. If you're not experienced you should avoid using it.

    Cheers

    Lars

  • he look like a mouse with dat mustache

  • Nachoooooooooo. lol

  • Is it ever okay to smoke it halfway and leave the rest in there for another time?

  • where do you buy all those tobacco products,,,,,what store?

  • Its very hard to take you seriously with that stache haha. Thanks for the video though. I've been smoking only cigars for years and plan on buying a few pipes. Thanks

  • I love pipe tobacco but its too much work lol. I prefer cigars

  • i feel kinda bad because i laughed when he said "i will show you how to rub that out."

  • The Rubbing between your hands should be the first step. Hence rubbing, and not tearing. Just my educated opinion. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, I guess it's a matter of choice. However, the tearing you did first might be great if your outside in the wind, but rubbing is the proper method. OH! and EPIC Mustache!! BULLY!!

  • @thunderbolt885

    No, just a fun pastime!

  • @OldTobyPodcast

Just messing with you, I was talking about how you had the cool pipe smokers mustache. Why is that all pipe smokers have cool facial hair?

  • @OldTobyPodcast how big of a cherry should the pipe have once lit? the whole thing? or just a bt in the center?

  • @thunderbolt885 fuck you ya cunt

  • @RapDied1999

    what? I was being ironic.

  • I sooooo am going to smoke one of those when i'm 21 !!

  • nice video, thanks for the help

  • BTW ... the bend& fold method works fine with most flakes just use some crumbles of tobacco for the top layer and make regular use of your stamp making sure that there's a grey-white layer of ash atop the fire.

  • Hey mate,

thank's for the vid. Good guide for beginners.
