I would say, the style is a bit different, a little different style. However the effects Kutless is using does remind me of the GNR Solo sound used in Don't Cry.

Kutless doesn't have "boring" songs.
They are singing about how to be more like Jesus and living for Him, serving Him, worshiping Him, loving Him.

They aren't using any effects, it's a technique on the guitar in which you slightly bend the string back and forth rapidly to get that sound
