  • "Letme tell you bout your blood, bamboo kid. It ain't coca-cola; it's rice." That sends chills up spine every time

  • Clash strummer :/ jones :/ topper:/ luv that Topper!

  • Lily was getting C r e d! Now she be rockin'

  • lily allen is da best >u<

  • One of maybe 5 Clash covers I like... damn... I love Lily, but I didn't think she could do this... Once in a while I love being wrong.

  • Amazing!!!!$

  • Lily Allen does a wonderful cover of this great Clash song. She adds a completely different tone and feel for the song's meaning.

  • I'm pretty sure it was a joint decision for her to cover this song. If they didn't think she'd do well they wouldn't have agreed on it.

  • the fact mick jones plays on this should prove that its clash endorsed and stop all the bitching yes the originals a hundred times better but this is still phenomenal

  • sorry. i prefer the clash. shame she chose this song. the clash only can do this song justice. sorry .

  • @jolibelle No need to apologize.acting like you're opinion is fact is nothing anyone takes seriously, anyway.

  • the 27 club

  • I'm a massive Clash fan and this surprisingly is really good.

  • brilliant xx

  • New favorite song. Love it. Miss Lily so much. ;(

  • @kerbaniroxx I know I miss her too :( Im so sad that shes not continuing :(

  • @ayeshayh Yeah. It's pretty like...stunning to me too. Her music hits home to me, and like the comment above says, I have NOT found a song by her that I dislike. It's rather disappointing.

  • i heard when she was little a member of the clash actually used to babysit her

    she really did good

  • @KingSlimjeezy Lily Allen is good friends with Mick Jones :)

  • I have never listened to Lily's stuff I searched for straight to hell hoping for the clash original. I have to say that she does this song justice. Respect to all.

  • hehe i am ur girl

  • I LOVE LILY ALLEN! All caps was needed, she's awesome.

  • Is that Mick Jones singing in the background?

  • @Julez2770 Yes.

  • Ive loved Lily for awhile now. Every cover, every Single, ever EP, every demo. From Him to Stop Shop. I am a an thats loved her even when media was making shit about her life.Aside form silly photos she takes to nasty slurs im behind her 100% i just wish i could meet her to tell her this myself. Also to beg her to continue her music career. I understand why she quit but her music soothed my soul a way that all this other music cant. I truely wish i could meet her someday maybe<3 ILOVEYOU LILY.

  • in love

  • I love The Clash but this is a better interpretation of a great tune.

  • @Lynleyland you must be crazy...no way this is better than the original

  • @patobantan420 Is that a fact or a opinion :I

  • Dig it! I wonder how many people realise Diplo sampled the original version of this songe for M.I.A.s Paper Planes?

  • @AccessEvil There was a good reason why...Lol!

  • Wow. I grew up on The Clash and miss Joe very much. And I dig Lily Allen, but this is beyond what I expected. She's so wonderful. Thanks for continually impressing me, Lily. 'Love ya!

  • Does anyone not realise that Joe Strummer used to babysit Lily Allen when she was young?

He inspired her to become a musician.

The Allens and Joe Strummer were good friends. So maybe you trolls should shut up. I'm sure Strummer would be proud of her.

  • what is she singing about in this ? i cant understand it .. maybe because of her british accent ... but can anyone explain the meaning ...

  • @Faiznaseemahmed I believe it deals with American GIs who fathered children during the Vietnam war(with Vietnamese women) then when the war was over they went home and neglected and ignored the women and their children.

  • @Roland1182 No, you almost got it right, the U.S government wouldn't let the family's immigrate.

  • please dont confuse "terrible" and "not talented" with "i dont like her"

youre entitled to dislike her, but her voice is great

also, because something isnt like the original does not make it bad

why dont we LISTEN to it

it is a very good track

  • @AkatsukiEater well said

  • @AkatsukiEater i agree. awesome username BTW ;)

  • Absolutely murdered the original...

  • it's a very good cover, even though if it lacks a bit of drama like clasg's original version wich is one of my favourite clash's songs.

  • @farelowsky33 Shes not a dramatic person o_O. I like her just the way she is <3

  • I LIKE HER ... WHAT LIKE HER !?! LOOOOOVE HER !! ♥

  • @jimjimtrains

    Yes, she is.

  • this is my favorite lilly allen song!

  • is she Joe Strummers god daughter or not???

  • Better than I expected! Lily Allen very rarely disappoints!

  • This is pretty good but I prefer The Clash's!!!! I love the bit that goes Papapapapa and mamamamama bit,and the coca cola rice bit...I like the way she sings though!!

  • why you all crying and arguing stop using the term troll it basically screams I'm fat, ugly and spend too much time on the internet

  • @AlexanderJayxo Shut up troll.

  • amazing I love Lily Allen

  • Lily Allen's voice is so soft and elegant. I love her singing, I just wish she'd continue composing and singing as a profession. :( She's so pretty and... there are no words to describe her anymore.

  • @Mrsmtvfan666 its about immigration in the north of england, vietnamese war babies and immigration worldwide

  • @Thecuregalore94 You are sick! Do you realise the hurt that women went through? Dickhead.

  • @KIRSTYPOSSUM HERP DE DERP the pain of chavs is like crack cocaine for my loling.

  • dont like Lilly--but this cover is done just good --great Mick Jones--

  • It's a great cover to me, I don't see how anyone could hate it

  • What's the point of this song it's stinks

  • No its not

  • This is fucking horrible.

  • i never met a lily allen song / cover that i didn't like.

  • @treehugger625 Same.

  • @treehugger625 Is that a Wombats reference? Or are you just clever

  • Gosh, Lilly once again kicked ass in a cover.Loved it.

  • ive just sawed me ears off after hearing this.

  • For someone who loves the original, I think this is a good cover, and doesn't make my feel sick to my stomach like MIA

  • A good job on the cover. Nice to see someone's got the guts to do a song with substance rather than the typical "I'm just a girly...heehee...am I sexy, daddy?" type crap that so many of the young girl singers make because they can get away with it. Of course, Lily's pretty much steered clear of that anyway.

  • I still think Lilly Allen has said some incredibly dumb things regarding the music industry, but this is a decent cover.

It's not like Mick Jones was ever that great of a producer anyway.

  • @degree7 ...micks a fine producer..his early work with theatre of hate was innovating & his work with the Libeertines was definetly good

  • @degree7 Yeah. I still don't understand ...

  • i really don't understand why people get worked up about people doing covers, if you don't like it don't listen to it, listen to the original.

  • @biffy89

    Yep

Covers give another take on it.

Some are even better than the original.

  • it's a shame this has to be advertised as 'originally recorded by the clash'

  • I heared this song in the radio and I wanted to look for to google but that was so complicated :D i'm so happy to be here..^^

  • awesome! I dont care at all if its not her own song. Its freaking great.

  • I have ALWAYS loved the Clash's version, and i think that Lily did an awesome job on her cover:)

  • @Thecuregalore94 not funny

  • @benvol4 I think you'll find that it was funny. The entire sickipedia community agrees with me.

  • @Thecuregalore94

Eh? I thought they just agreed you're a sad tnuc?

  • @Thecuregalore94 You are sick. Things like that are not funny. I don't swear much at all but for you all make an exception. Fuck you bitch.

  • @mishap101 Ah cheer up and get a sense of humour xD

  • @Thecuregalore94

How would you like if you suffered miscarriages and suddenly became the butt of everyone's jokes? Miscarriages, the loss of a child, they're not really something you ever fully recover from.

  • @Thecuregalore94 And what do you call a good musician then?

    Justin beiber?

    Psssh.

  • @JoBeingRandom Justin Bieber? Fuck off mate, my idol musicians are Ian Curtis, Robert Smith, Trevor Strnad, Jimi Hendrix and Morrissey (to name a few favourites).

  • @Thecuregalore94 Oh man. You were born in 94? Get a fucking sense of yourself little boy, and than come back. Joking about miscarriages is horrible. If your mother'd had one, then we'd be out of one more demon child such as yourself. We all vary in music tastes, so bashing someone elses makes you look like an absolute idiot, and than making fun of someone for attempting to have a child and having that dream torn away? Grow up you stupid cunt.

  • @XoXoSakuraKissXoXo *EPIC TROLL FACE* I have a sense of myself, I am aware that I am in existence; hence having a sense of myself. Joking about miscarriages is horrible, but very funny aswell. If my mother had experienced one, I'd probably mock her too if she was spouting awful, spoken-word covers of what were decent songs. Demon child? I'm a Christian, and a God-fearing man myself. We do all vary in music tastes, and I'm allowed by law to express my thoughts on this particular piece. Enjoy.

  • @Thecuregalore94 being allowed to express and actually expressing your thoughts are completely different. you clearly dont know when to actually express yourself. would it be funny if your mother had a miscarriage with you? i'd think so, because then there would be one less stupid person.

normally, i'd congratulate trollers but know when and where to troll. gtfo internet kid.

  • @xxqqzzaa Being allowed to express IS expressing, derp. Would it be a miracle if your fucking grammar improved? Yes. Usually I'd welcome abbreviated lexis aswell, but gtfo just cannot apply here. How can you get out of the internet? You cannot.

  • @Thecuregalore94 READ retard. i said ALLOWED TO EXPRESS is not as same as ACTUALLY EXPRESSING.

GTFO= get the fuck off. How rude of you to assume my abbreviations.

  • @xxqqzzaa I think you'll find it is the same. If you're allowed to do it, then by all means you may. That's precisely what I've done, and I think once you GOML then you may understand that.

  • @Thecuregalore94 I forgive you, you're young. you still have lot to learn. My point was made across, if you didnt get it, thats cause you still belong in school. troll elsewhere kid, im done.

  • @xxqqzzaa Here at Epic Meal Time, we don't fuck around in the kitchen!

  • @Thecuregalore94 that was pretty funny and this may not be her best song but shes pretty good singer

  • As an Amerasian, I've always loved this song. She's done a beautiful job of it.

  • I find it rather strange, when i was younger my dad would listen to the Clash, but yet i never heard this? till i was looking up Lily one day looking for more of her stuff and found this. Honestly i do like this version better, both are good, but i love Lily's music. Feel horrible for her Miscarriage she'd be a cute mum. Go Lily Allen :)

  • The only band that matters.

  • i think this is a great song for her here voice is soft and sweet and i think we all should say good job an a great song

  • Lily is one of the most talented artists out there, she sounds the same live as she does here. She is amazing !

  • 158 People need to go straight to hell !!

  • another artist to do a good cover of this is 'Emm Gryner' she is from cananda, which means she doesnt have anything to do with the roots of this song etc, so would prob lead to bad comments, but as a fan of the clash, and music in general, i think its good that artists get to sing songs like this in there own style. esp if they are fans themselves and its not a money making westlife type of deal.

  • When she sings "go straight to hell, boy" it's like she's saying it to some guy who dumped her or something, you know?

  • ...I don't like this. Don't get me wrong, I love Lily Allen...

but I love the Clash more, and I just don't think it does it justice. She makes it sound too cutesy, flirty, like her other songs, and its just not that type of song.

  • @LadyGaGaMonster4Life You seriously think she would've been a good mom?? I love lily, but really??

  • I'm just crying and crying right now. What a very-very-infinite-very nice person JOE was!!! HE is a personal hero and will stay in my heart until the end of my life. We miss YOU, JOE!!! :'('''''

I hope you are now feeling much better, Lilly. This song is SUPER-FANTABULOUS (IMHO, the best lyrics ever written and a super-fantastic melody) ... and you [and Mick] did a really great job here! Congratulations and thank you!!!

Love YOU, JOE, always & forever!!! R.I.P. :'(''''''

  • @pfonyt you go straight to hell too

  • @bungoose ~ I'm still there, terrible service, good food (Bloody Mary and grilled meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner), high prices (it costs an arm and a leg and more) and high temperatures all eternity round. I think it's a metaphor, something like "go out the window", "go to Halifax" or the monopoly "Go to Jail" (^____^) ... but, also "wake up", "awake", "do not be asleep/careless/indifferent/cold-hearted".

Bungoose, have a sparkling New Year's Eve and a very happy 2011.

  • Great cover. Love it.

  • you know this song gets me thinking...

    ITS PEANUT BUTTER JELLEH TIME!!!

  • lily allen is not strummer's god daughter, that's just a myth

  • @SuburbanZombie no not really , but they both said it to each other.

  • l love lily allen <3 <3<3<3<3 <3 <3

  • lily allen can do no wrong.

  • didnt need to be touch

  • shes a nice alto

  • i love the intro

  • this isn't supposed to sound like this :(

  • @tortagirl

you're right, but the contrast between the music and the lyrics sounds inusual and nice at last.

  • @OcchioniApotropaici limortacci nostri però che commentiamo in inglese ogni cosa, poi nn ci riconosciamo tra di noi e andiamo su google translate anche se abbiamo la stessa madrelingua.

  • Stunningly shite. All the pop references, married with the beautiful drumming/dub/reggae/asian influences are utterly lost. I can't think of any way of producing this as schmaltzy and ersatz as this. Encase it in formica, and leave it to the internet bin.

Just sad to think how Mick Jones lost any social meaning, whilst Joe Strummer burnt himself out on anger.

  • @originalgeekpie

You're to fanciful about your music. It's not shit, you idiot. Stop using big words, acting like you're super superior because you don't like one damn cover. Why don't you go out and shoot every person who's ever done a song or cover you've never liked?

Her voice is gorgeous, and the original song was kick-ass. So just chill, enjoy the music, or if you don't, there's an x-out button. Or maybe you're into listening to music you don't like... ;)

  • i would hit that ass though!!!!!!

  • @Lucifer986

Lily Allen is the late, great Joe Strummer's god-child, you dolt. He encouraged her talent. Furthermore she is actively pursuing the life of a free-thinking artist, who says and does what she pleases.

The obvious question your post begs is this: why not shut-up lest you look like someone foolish enough to call themselves "Lucifer" and troll around talking shit.

In short, what I am saying is: Go straight to Hell, boy.

  • @ArcadianQueen LOL a free thinking artist lol ..........all debate ends here ...clown

  • @ArcadianQueen @lolleri01 because all of lily Allen songs are written by ghost writers or covers. Her beats produced by a producer who only has capital in mind because that is the nature of commercial music. There is no free thinking,no creativity. Her songs are products manufactured on a assembly line where each worker plays his small part in a isolated process.Joe sturmmers god child .. the artist stands on his/ her own two feet. Nipslips & insults, famous dad has made lily Allen a pop star.

  • @Lucifer986 she feels she should have used the blue nail polish instead of the yellow

  • @Lucifer986 Mick Jones asked Lily Allen to cover this song. Now go straight to hell.

  • @Lucifer986

Listen carefully to who is singing backup. There is no replacing the original but this is nice and gives exposure to The Clash's version (that's how I heard it).

  • greta cover, Joe would have liked it

  • This is the most emotional narrative based song I've ever heard.

  • :O this is really good! i mean i wasn't expecting this! really surprised me, great job ^-^ and i love the original

  • This is sooooo good. I absolutely love Lily Allen and I love the original version of this song. She did a great job covering it. Making it her own.

  • omg so niceee!

  • she was chosen by mick jones to do the song....leave the girl alone people...if you dont like it ....dont listen..she has more talent and more persona than most modern artists

  • Mick Jones does wonderful backing vocals here.

  • I LUV this song its epic he cover is awesome im not sure about the clash one ive heard it but i kinda for get it but even if i dont luv it i have very picky music choices and maybe i just heard a bad version lily allen is awesome

  • Doesn't hold a candle to the original but its not too bad.

  • lily allen was joe strummers god child :)

  • amoo estha canciioonn ♥

  • @no1speshle Youtube is FREE. And because of it, there is commercials. Would you rather watch commercials or pay for youtube? Stop being lazy people, suck it up and watch the commercials. Kthanks.

  • @MissBreannaXD It's the companys that decide whether or not to put ads in front of videos, and they get the money. Youtube is run by donations and the banner ads at the side of the page.

  • comment

  • It's a very by-the-note rendition of a classic. Safe but effective. I like Ms. Allen's voice, but it's the gruff desperation of Joe Strummer's delivery that really sells the song for me.

  • @firstcat exactly

  • Obviously the clash version is world class, pure emotion and delivery. But this aint bad...

  • ziziispoonie876 you twat, when has a cover version ever been better than original, sort your head out,all she does is talk, never sings how she managed to get a chance to record this i will never know

  • @durks1969 Bowie's cover of "Let's Spend the Night Together" springs to mind. He out-rocked the Stones. Also, I suggest listening to some of the stuff by Nouvelle Vague for some examples of covers that are better than the original. They don't all work, but when they do, they really shine.

  • @durks1969 Respect by Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding used to introduce it as the song a girl took away from me. All along the Watchtower by Hendrix, another obvious one. This will never beat the original but it is nice and she was chosen to do it by Mick Jones.

  • this is pretty epic (:

  • Mick Jones did this song with Lily , not only that but Lily Allen is Joe Strummers God Daughter .. so if any artist out there deserves to do a cover its Lily , and she did a great job aswell.

  • Gosh, some people are just so nice to each. Attacking each other from behind a computer screen. I bet you feel well cool. The clash version was amazing. so is this one. Some people like one, some, the other. Stop keyboard bashing !

  • Wow,, I'm not a huge fan of the Clash or this song anyway but I love Lily's version because it's different and not just a complete copy xxxx

  • @durks1969 why take your time to watch it then?

  • Great cover and the 7" vinyl is for sale on ebay now! item number 290463965679.

  • I love Lily Allen, and this is my favorite cover ever. I've listened to this so many times :)

  • ....I officially love Lily Allen.

  • im suprised at how good this is..niceeeeee

  • YAY Great cover!

  • i love The Clash, i love Mick Jones and i love Lily Allen.... and i FUCKING LOVE THIS COVER :) :)

  • A little too happy-sounding, if you ask me. The original is pretty dark.

  • @IWannabeJew

I like that in contrast to the original. Makes them both fun to listen to. And sure its happy but the lyrics and tempo still evoke the same dark feeling.

  • better than the original, it just is, the message is more sophisticated or rather softly sent and perhaps also more comprehensible

  • @yyyhector1 uuuuuh its good but doesnt scratch the surface to be as good as the original
