  • You maybe need some ether to squirt in the intake when you're starting the old gal up.

  • Why not make it electric start?

  • What size engine do these graders run? Is it the d318 like out of the d6?

  • dude get some work clothes not those none dirty clothes you are wearing

  • That machine does seem to start a little hard.I have a 52 and once the pony is engaged, the diesel fires right off within about 3 or 4 seconds.

  • sounds like my grandmas weedwacker

  • LOL

  • I have a gradder like that in my pit and it still runs !!

  • Good Ole poney motor starter.s Some times dealing with dead batteries , or corroded cables and crap. i wish they left the poneys on stuff. but they make stuff now user lazy turn a key and purrr. Young kids dont know how well they got it. Used to pump ur foot off pull the choke , fool with it till a cold natured engine got warmed up . LOL ahhhh the good ole days

  • This seems like a good method if you could rope start the pony motor. You would never have to think about batteries.

When I was younger my neighbor had an old dozer with a gas engine and rope starter. I have no idea what it was but it took a good 45 minutes to start each time.

  • Man, that seems really dangerous to have to stand pinched between the tires like that during the starting process.

  • You do have to realize that this machine was built over 60 years ago. They had different ways of doing things back then. But, you are right that it is not the best position to be in. Keeping that in mind, you want to make very certain that the machine is NOT in gear before attempting to start.

  • I know it but I would be freaked out to do that. I would have to put a step ladder up and reach over or something.

    Great video!

  • the later 8Ts were inside start

  • I'm thinking of restoring one of these machines. How about a walk around video and a how to operate?

    Thanks

  • I'll see what I can do. It may be some time, as the cold is setting in and she refused to start today. Hopefully when it gets a little warmer.

  • This machine can be very cantankerous. Sometimes it just refuses to start. But, it is a good machine. I'm currently replacing the glass in it and hopefully adding lights. A paint job is soon to come, hopefully by next spring.

  • this is what my grandfather and dad had to go through ever morning before they could take off. interesting and very cool.
