  • um, can you make this game like Mario tetris? Like it have more people (1v1v1v1) and when erases more block, it permanent add more block to other person, make it more challenge, not about fast or not.

    I might be making an update to this game in the near future. I found a few bugs related to the AI and to analog controllers. And if I ever find the time, I might make the game graphics scalable to play on widescreen monitors/TVs.

  • There's a tool call xna checker that will fix the XNA loading issues. Search for that on the net it's pretty easy to find.

  • well, it works on my computer. just make sure you have directx 9.0c and the framwork stuff and it should work.

    @ the programmer: the only thing i'm missing is a mode in which you can play in teams or free for all against other opponents. like a 2vs2 battle, or 4 players against each other.

    this game is really awesome!

  • i meet all the requirements, but it still doesn't work... always the same error.

  • Sorry about being away from this page for so long. I started making updates a little while ago, mainly fixing the issues everybody is having. Can't really fix it, but I can at least return better error messages. I will do my best to put up the new version of the game for download soon. Not much has changed but there's a new game mode that everybody should enjoy.

  • As for the 2vs2 idea. That's a good idea but probably more work than I'd like. XNA 2.0 just came out and has networking support. Maybe I could make a really simple network version that would allow you to play 2vs2 through that.

    The new version finally has the correct playable height of 20 blocks. The previous one had 18 like the game boy. So that alone makes a good difference.

  • Hi, sorry about the slow news. Yeah, I'm planning on releasing it sometime in the near future. I

    was away on vacation for the last couple weeks. And now I am looking for a job so I have to

    devote my time to that first. My cousin told me that the logic for the menu sucks, so I have to

    rework that. And I need to get some of the music replaced.

    I'm hoping to get it out by June 30th. Hopefully that will satisfy you all out there!

  • Fear not my friend, I've been working hard at it to fix the few things that bothered me about the game. And I'm on track so far. This morning, I'm looking at controller (in the menus) problems.

    The only thing I probably won't have time for will be to figure out where to place it for you guys to download it. Have any ideas? BTW, do you have a good video card? The XNA framework requires quite a good card.Nic

  • what's the size of the game? you could use rapidshare to upload it..

    oh yes, and my videocard should be good enough.

  • Should be around something like 50 MB. It's bigger than that right now and that's because the XNA Framework only accepts WAV audio. I'm working on using mp3 files instead, but the songs don't loop properly so I don't know if they'll even be in or not. Either way it should be under 100MB. If I have enough time I'll make a small website and link to the file on rapidhare.

  • Development is going really good. MP3 music has been implemented, songs won't loop as I would have hoped but I think people will really like this feature. Basically what's left is finishing the soundtrack. It will probably be a bit short but I don't think that will be a problem. I'll keep that for a future release. And figuring out the software requirements; XNA, DirectX, etc...

    June 30th like I said.

    unfortunately i'm going to be on vacation from 28th june till 7th july.. well, i'm gonna test it as soon as i'm back.

  • Sounds good, I just got back from my friend's to try out the game on his machine and figure out what the software requirements are. Looks like all that is needed if the XNA Framework 1.0 Refresh redist and the NET Framework 2.0. CPU minimum requirements: no idea. Hopefully machines within the last 2~3 years will be good enough. I think the cpu might show some play improvements on newer machines. ah well, we'll see.

  • I agree with Hydrosbon. It would be a crime not to upload such a detailed, awesome game! ^^

    Even if there are a few problems, i think we can live with that. Oh yes, and don't worry about the copyrights. Plenty of people create tetris or other game clones and release them, and since you also mentioned the original creator's name I don't think you'll have any trouble with this.

    By the way: How about another movie till you get to release it? :)

  • wow, this really looks great! i tried to program a similar game but it was way too bugged and i wasn't able to iron out the problems...

    are you planning to upload it somewhere when you're finnished? i would be really interested in this game!

  • Thanks DarkStarPL and hydrosbon for your comments. I wasn't exactly planning on releasing it, mainly because Tetris and the music is copyrighted, but I'm starting to think that I could replace the music by some created by a friend of mine and release it for free.

    One drawback is that it requires a good video card, something the XNA Framework needs. Also only runs in 800x600. I'll definately post a link here once I release it.

    one question, you said the AI beats you 95% of the time, do you think that it could be an imbalance in AI scheme.

    Actually, the reason why it beats me all the time is that it plays really fast. Even though it makes some mistakes sometimes it's pretty quick at clearing them.

    There's only 1 difficulty right now (master), I wanted to make it even better and then work on other difficulties but I got tired of the whole project as it was taking over my life. Maybe someday I'll go back in there and finish it up.

  • My apologies to somebody else who posted a message about the game seeming slow but was interesting, I deleted your message by mistake.

    I'm not exactly sure what you mean by being slow, it seems a bit choppy here because youtube reuires a 30fps video, this runs very well on my monitor at 75fps.

    If you mean about game play, CPUs here are playing at level 0. The highest level is 35 and believe me it's quite fast there, 9ms of drop per square.

    I'll make other clips when I have the time.

  • Thanks for the comment, I thought about it (I don't have an XBOX 360, I'd have to start there). Tetris being what it is I'm afraid I'd have to get rights to the concept, etc... So I don't know how that would work. The music would also have to go. I'll wait until XNA is final at least.

    This was my first game development in about 10 years, last time qas in QBasic, quite a jump...
