  • wow memories

  • What is this about chimps sliding down giraffe necks?

  • God, it's great to hear this song after all these years. Until now I couldn't remember which one of animal sketches had it, so I couldn't find it on YouTube. I seemed to have stumbled upon it, lucky me.

  • You MUST be my identical twin; I read your post and had to make sure I hadn't posted it! I too have been remembering this music since as far as I can recall but couldn't remember which animal film either. Just like you, I happened to really by accident stumble upon it like you too! I can't tell you how amazing it is to finally hear what I've been remembering all these years!

  • YEAH! My eyes are misting with the wonderful memory of this GREAT music! YHANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • That has GOT TO BE Joe's most Psychadelic, funky spaced out killer groove he created for SS.This one never left my memory. All I had to do was type in Sesame street Giraffe and here it was.BOOYA!

  • where are kermit and Sholla stitting at while they are talking here?

  • Does anyone know the name of this song?

  • Did anyone know that 2 species of giraffes are in this? The ones with the big bold spots are recticulated giraffes. The boldly marked of the giraffes. Also most seen in zoos. The other ones are Masi giraffes.

  • I love this music!!! I've been looking for this one for the longest. Thanks for the post!

  • Hey raposofan, Where is the joe raposo film on rattlesnakes, leopard, crocodiles, ealruses, giantpandas, the full version of the rhino,And the otter?

  • "So long!" said the chimp as he slid down the giraffe's neck.
  • I love Shola's dashiki, too! Peace.

  • One of Raposo's best joints. I remember as a kid waiting for this for weeks just so I could listen to the funky music. Hopefully, you can find an uncut version. I love the electronic processing on the flute! Shola Lynch was so cute. Peace.

  • One of Joe's best ones an absolute masterpiece and sppoky music too. I believe there was another one similar to this the starfish clip.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • I always ADORED that music. Peace.

  • yes Marbeles, I can belive that, If it can kill a lion, a person would be no problem. ;0)

  • I know. It was the "two pieces" part that I was pointing out. You'd expect a kick from them to kill you, but if that film was correct that it could actually break someone in HALF, we're talking some serious power, here. Intimidating. (And they look so sleepy-eyed and laid back, too... ;)

  • Did you know when born, A baby giraffe can be up to 6 feet tall.

  • Did know giraffes are not voiceless as it may seem? They have been heard. They just dont use their call offen.

  • They do have a voice, they just don't speak in our hearing range. They use "infrasound" (the opposite of the "ultrasound" used by some other animals). Such sound is also produced by loudspeakers at rock concerts beside the noise you hear. And infrasound, though unhearable, can cause a sense of discomfort in humans.

    ~Ra'akone

  • The male giraffe can be to 18 feet tall females giraffes, though still very tall, are still a little bit smaller.

  • Did you know the toung of the giriffe is black? The tounge is i8 inches long. The only animal related to the giraffe is the okapi.

  • Here's an interesting fact on giraffes, There are many species of giraffes, The most boldly marked of the giraffes is the recticulated, offen seen in zoos. but there are other species of giraffes like the biringo, and masi just to name a coupple. Also they may not look it, but if mad enough giraffes can be dangerous. One kick from a giraffe can kill a lion!

  • And an old film I saw in high school said that one hard kick can break a six-foot man into two pieces!

  • One kick from a giraffe can break a six-foot man into two three-foot men.

  • i love this music!! so mellow and calming, don't you agree?

  • I could lie down, purr and die listening to this music all day. I wish I had it on an endless loop at the office and at home. And imagine nighttime. You'd go happily right to sleep..... mmmmmmmmmmmm :)

Would that Joe Raposo were alive and I were his third wife...........

  • Flute with Vibes and drums...with the flute running through a delay! GENIOUS! what the hell happened to creativity of this magnitude. pure gold! love to know the artist/song/album.

  • Joe Raposo. Songwriter for Sesame Street and other venues. Unfortunately he passed away years ago. Unsurpassed musician in my opinion. His music helped to define my early childhood.

  • These animal skits are cool! I love these and I a'm 33 years old, and still watch them. Does anyone know the name of the zoo where they filmed these? I would love to visit it. Does anyone have the one with the walrus?

  • Poor Kermit! The abuse he had to take from those kids. Another trip down memory lane when I was a kid watching SS in the first few seasons. Love the music, it has a psychedelic jazz feeling to it which fits in with the time it was released.

  • Does anyone recall, from the earliest Sesame Street days, the time Kermit was at the zoo, serving as exercise instructor to some orangutans. (I think that's what they were).

  • What's the name of this song?

  • Not sure of the nam, but add your own words you would have a hit! just make sure its about giraffes!

  • its the kind of music for going to the zoo or hearing at a nature store

  • Kermy shoulda hauled off and slugged the Brat, Makes for good T.V.

  • Yeah, I remember that little girl who grabbed Kermit by the mouth like that used to tick me off as a child. Poor Jim Henson who had to deal with the abuse, hehe.

  • poor kermit! lol!

  • Isn't it mean and harsh to call little kids dumb?

  • Ooooh, I remember, I don't like it when dumb little kids are mean and harsh with the muppets. Anyone have the fruit song by Joe Raposo?

  • i also like episodes with kermit talking about animals, at the same time he's showing the film clip. yeah the musin in this reminds me of dressing up in a cool leather jacket on the streets with a cigerete in my mouth. yeah, cool clip.

  • i remember an episode with this one with madeline kahn saying, giraffes would be nice animals. except you would need high ceilings something like that.

  • i think there was another film clip of giraffes except it had an organ type music with it. and i remember one they showed about octopuses with organ music.

  • Yes, I remember the octopus with the organ music. It was Grieg's Pomp and Circumstance (the graduation music)

  • i was asking about this clip before when i saw, the one with the sea horses. love this one, especially the music in this. i remember this in the early seventies when i was one two three or four. hey sounds like sesame street when i'm counting there haha.

  • "Yeah, Froggy." Hahahaha, that's adorable.

  • sawing14s, thanks so much, this is what it's all about. Raposo was on top of it. Spacey, moody, & sweet at the same time.

The end is cut, any chance of posting the entire clip if you have it?

  • I always loved these animal films, I always enjoyed the music that accompanied them. Did Joe Raposo write up most if not all of Sesame Streets music for films?

  • "The Avengers" style music!

  • Hey, it's a GY-raffe, da gy-raffe!

  • This clip was on the edge of my memory. I had picked up the 35th anniversary (Elmo version) DVD for my daughter and watched it, and they showed a flashback scene with a cameo of this clip for a few seconds without Raposo's music. When I saw the clip, I thought: I think I remember they used to show animal clips with music! And yes I was right. Oh I miss old Sesame Street, thanks so much to everyone posting these old clips, my childhood is coming back to me.

  • Where are they now? They're probably pushing 40!

  • Shola Lynch is a filmmaker now (Google "Shola Lynch" "Sesame Street" and you'll get some articles about her documentary, "Chisolm '72."

  • Could be... giraffes can live a long time

  • Crazy man! That music makes me want to dress all in black, hang out in coffee shops and recite Ginsberg and Keroac

  • Pure Raposo brilliance.

  • Yeah, that music is so gloooooomy but cool. I like how Shala calls Kermit "Froggy"

  • Fantastic to see that again. I love the music from the giraffe film, but I remember feeling very creeped out by it when I was little!

  • Shala does like Kermit, doesn't she? Well...looks like Le Pig has a little competition! :)
