  • errrrm...how old is he in this video!?

  • @piisyummy He turned 13 the day before he performed this!

  • i had to do a presentation on him today and i showed 2:40 on. everyone's face was O-O it was pretty funny. I'm so jealous of this kid (even though he's not a kid anymore haha). i hope to be able to sound like him one day

  • I'm playing this next semester! SO PUMPED!

  • too fast! are you rushing back to home for dinner?

  • How? Just how is this possible. Solo de concours is really hard and he made it look so effortless. Being a clarinetist who had to work to get better, i am both in awe of his ability as well as jealous. Bitter Sweet eh?

  • What surprises me is that this piece is only a grade 4 piece of music. It sounds like a 6 to me.

  • 3:51 - 4:07 is part of my region band solo . Kill me now , please , somebody !

  • holy hell...that is unreal.

  • oh sorry i´m not inglish so if you no portugues try to talk

  • The musicality in this piece is amazing, the tempo is slow enough to fit the flamboyance of the romantic era and fast enough to show the great technical work that the Messager incorporated into the piece while also keeping the listener longing for the next note to be played.

    Amazing!

  • I'm his age and am struggling with the Finzi concerto.

I took one look at the music for this piece and nearly puked.'

  • put youtube infront amazing or look for jesse mccandles he is amazing /watch?v=SAPU1f7rHCo

  • if i play clarinnet since 2 years old i believe that i play that song to

  • @thisismynewworld It's not a song retard. It's a piece.

  • ......AND it's by memory. Cripes.

  • luego dicen que nadie nace sabiendo alli esta un claro ejemplo que bonito toca eso se lleva años de practica esfuerzo y sudor y este niño solo le tomo poco tiempo es bonito pero ala vez injusto .

  • The Best!!!!

  • Does anyone know what brand of clarinet he uses?

  • It's amusa I belive

  • do you know what the difficulty grade this music is?

  • @Marchingfreak123 I played it when I was in High School and had been taking lessons for 3 years. It's not terribly hard technically, but the style of it is what got me.

  • @Tastyichigo Well I really meant figuratively, but yeah. That's great that you're gonna do this solo piece! I've tried it and practiced for a month. I am proud to say that I transposed it to squeak major and pwned it! xD Hopefully you'll do a better job! Hurray for clarinet players! :D

  • Im playing this for solo and ensemble next year. Julian is sucha boss

  • I'm accompanying this for a student at State solo contest this month, and while I'm a pianist and not a clarinetist, I can vouch for the fact that it's not exactly a breeze. Sure, lots of you can play it better - and when YOU'RE on a stage performing it with an orchestra in front of hundreds of people, let us know how it went for you. ;)

  • i have been playing clarinet for seven years and i am no where that good :(

  • @liddleNDNduckiee I've played it And I'd say its a 9/10. The Cadenza and several arpeggios make this a very challenging piece to play. Not to mention the interpretation. Its seems pretty easy because Bliss here played it with ease, but it is a very difficult type of beast! To memorize, it'll take all the effort you put into it to have it sound really good. Average work results in average results. Excellent work gives you a wonderful life somewhere abroad performing for thousands of people! :)

  • Met this guy today, he came to my school to preform and answer questions. Pretty neat.

  • Although i play the clarinet for ten years, i don't know if i could play this.

  • this ''mean'' is very, very good

please frinds,i'm Brazilian and watch my videos in my page in youtube ok??

    thank's for you's

  • There's a decent amount of parts where at this age, in this performance, it's not impressive WHEN YOU COMPARE IT TO TRULY GOOD PLAYING. I'm a clarinet performance major, and my private instructor would rape me for that kind of tone and what he's doing with it. The technique is also sloppy and with little concern for musicality, etc.

But what he's doing for a 12 year old and really anyone below the undergraduate level is incredible for sure. Just stop getting your panties in a knot!

  • 音樂的表達不錯,但曲子整體的音準下降

  • 音樂的表達不錯,但曲子整體的音準下降

  • Thank you for uploading! Great to listen to

  • @Friendant72. just take back everything you just said and visit the iTunes store and search solo de concours. Julian Bliss's recording is right next to Martin Fröst's recording. And besides he was outside. I'd like to see you play the Messager outside as well as that.

  • Jealousss! TT^TT

  • Very impressive! Some kids get all the talent.

  • It's amazing because he's 12, not because it's actually good. He rushes through it and doesn't play it like it's music, and there are also some wrong notes in there. It's ridiculous that he could play like that at that age, but this is not in the same league as a good professional performance by any of the world's greats.

  • I have only one thing to say about this: This is a French romantic and lyrical piece and not a technical study or show piece. It's just scales up and down so a good musical ideas are need here not fast moving fingers.

  • @klarinetta I find it hard to believe that all you got out of this performance was him being technical and not musical ideas, as you said..

  • @xHuntedGunzPCGx First thing I never look at this piece as a technical piece and secondly he plays it way to fast so connection between the fast scales and long legato lines are just lost.

It's in my opinion like comparing Martin Fröst's version of the Nielsen concerto and 1970 recording with John McCaw and Philharmonia orchestra. I'm in no doubt which one I like more.

  • @klarinetta Well even if the technique is frantic at times...there are other lyrical parts and he does express there.

  • spectacular, amazing, no words it is supported is described in the play. I'm really impressed.

  • My name is also Julien!

  • great job.....i play the clarinet and its not even that close.......lol

  • he's parents must be proud

  • hes 14

  • OMG!!! He look exactly like me!!!!

  • he's 12. and awesome

  • It's amazing

  • I dont even want to touch my Clarinet anymore >_<

    So ASHAMED! x_X

    He's like 10?

  • @YeahxAnd ....at that time...he was 7 =X

    now he's about 19 i think...

  • @solrac62892 he was 12 at the time of this concert

  • INCREDIBLE

  • nice playing for this age!

  • The page turner is the real star here. :P

  • i've watched this clip countless and i never got tired of listenin and watchin it.....great playin

  • bravo bravo nice temp

  • It helps to really focus on technique the first time you pick up an instrument like he did at the age of 4. it REALLY sets you up for success. playing jingle bells in a sixth grade band won't... lol

  • hes like 7!

  • I have been playing for slightly over a year. I am a first chair clarinetist, and I am preparing this piece for a banquet. This kid makes me feel like crap.

  • I fail. I'm playing this, but 100 times slower and with 500 times less skill and emotion. I thought I was doing great....until I heard this. :-P I've gotta give it to him, this is a ridiculously difficult piece, especially the cadenza. And to play this without music??? WOW.

  • Prodigys don't exist!

  • fantastico

  • fantastic!

  • I love the ending

  • i wanna play like him!

  • He looks like he has to go to the bathroom

  • lol yes but

hes just emoting...its OK to do that in music.

  • @dumnuts1

    hahaha

  • yes it is

  • I wanna play like him :) He's really good and talented! 5 stars

  • then practice practice practice =]

  • fantastico

  • this was alright. couldnt have said it better myself...

  • best video of solo de concours messenger in youtube.

  • Nice performing!

  • hey do u have the piece?

  • wow this is amazing. I've been playing clarinet for four years now. This is very good.

  • is he using a Bb clarinet??

  • @MrSnorlax22 yup

  • LOVE IT!

  • I think that the clarinet is the most beautiful instrument ever.

  • Lol this kid aint bad but im 13 and i can do as well as him and ive been playing for 2 years

  • my private teacher wants to strangle Bliss lol i'm playing the Premiere Rhapsodie this year for our solo ensemble contest, i hope to play this next year, i can only dream of being this good

  • What is the name of this solo do you have the notes?

  • he is the picture of what are band teacher wishes we could be XD wow this kids amazing, by the way i should know, been playing clarinet for 4 years now in my band

  • he is coming to our school!!!!!

  • I meant to teach us!!!!! Sorry!

  • i just realized this is the fastest recording I've heard of this piece of music.

  • AWESOME

  • I'm 17.... and in the all-american band... I play clarinet... And I'm not even as good as he was when he was 12... NOT FAIR!

  • Beautiful*

    I wish I was that good? :(

  • I was excited that I could finally play this song, after a month, but now I feel like I dont even want to take it to solo and ensemble at all. I suck lol.

  • lol, give yourself a month and you'll be able to read through this piece easy.. but to play it with your own interpretation and style with fluency.. you gotta spend years on it!!! ... or be a prodigy like Julian bliss and pwn the piece in a week :p This recording is probably the best that I've found. The tempo is just right to fit the style and mood of the piece. the phrasing is great. his breathing is suburb! his technique is astounding! Let him have his cookie, he deserves it! :D

  • @pedrocks1312 he actually has been playing this song longer than that tho. There is a video of him when hes 5 playing this song

  • am i the only one who wants to punch him in the face?

  • no, no ur not. lol

  • the woman sitting behind him is like omg..such a show-off

  • julian bliss, i bow down to thee! teach me the ways of the clarinet!

  • Bravooo, esplêndido...

  • Que garoto excelente!

  • He's a fucking G, like he owns all of us.

  • Oh my gosh! No fair! He's amazing!

  • wonderful!!!!!!!

  • :O This kids amazing. I love the clarinet, and now i love him. Makes me want to learn...

  • muy padre video me encanta

  • Julian bliss is just beyond amazing. Everyone thinks that it's so amazing that a sophomore made state, well look at this vid and all of his other vids, simply amazing.

  • Beautiful.

  • dam that boy is good at his scales

  • hehe turns out practicing scales isn't useless...

  • This guy is amazing. His tounging, the speed of which his fingers moves, is all incredible.

  • whoa......im pretty good but thats like......clarinet hero....everything is AWESOME except for the way he cant hold still

  • Try to close your eyes, it often helps to consentrate on the music..

  • its called being in the zone

  • woaah...he plays waay better than me.... D:

  • lol he should, he's Sabine Meyer's prodigy...

  • I take it that none of you actually play the clarinet. This is absolutely amazing for a 12 year old. I actually thought it was a professional clarinetest until I looked at the vidoe. He sounds better than anyone my age. (i'm 17, first chair in a few honors bands and an orchestra)

  • why on earth would anybody criticize this? he was 12 years old. anyone who plays the clarinet can appreciate this.

  • a very primitive sound (because it resembles mine), but still epically good for 12 years old

  • fuck you why would you watch this then

  • Comment removed

  • julian bliss, you're so much better now than you were in this video. but that's amazing for a twelve year old.

what strength is this reed, I think you would have benefited with a harder one.

  • yeah, i bet you would have benifited with a harder dick last night to

  • im 14 he is in his twentys now and ive had a masterclass from him on this piece. trust me he just keeps improving almost like theres not a limit to what he can do.

  • He may be fantastic here, but he's been playing for 8 years already, and practicing at least 2 hours every day. However, he's going to reach a point where he's just one of many good clarinet players. He's amazing now, but there are better. I'm not saying I'm better, but he's getting there at this point where he's only going to be famous because of his childhood, not because of his adulthood playing abilities.

  • Truly amazing! I'm only a little bit younger than this guy and I could never play a piece as well as he has!

  • what in the freakin world!?!? JEALOUS

  • That sounds perfect! I play clarinet too.

  • WoW...he's good

    better than me

  • wow. im a freshmen too. and he is wayyyyy better then me. XD your really good, kid.you should see mr. chareles Grey,

  • he is an epic win!!

-_- this is my jealous face

  • Very good, sensitive - something the child prodigies don't always have. There was a mistake about half way through the cadenza though! He's not perfect :p

  • For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. :)

  • Well nah, he makes plenty of mistakes, but still ridiculous for 12 years old ._.

Now if you will excuse me... I must go practice.

  • holy freakeennn goddd thiss kiddd makess me look like crapp nd ive been playin since 3rd grade now im a freshmannn :) haha kids good though

  • i'm a senior preparing to play this for regionals & college auditions, & this boy makes me feel terrible.

    haha.

    absolutely fantastic,

    simply amazing.

    wonderful playing!

  • What are your reasons?

  • Let's see 'em try to play Debussy.

  • Yeah let's see YOU play it I bet you can't even play this and he's 12 moron.

  • hes better than my band teacher

  • I think I just died of...BLISS. Hehehe.

  • OMG he is sooooooooo good

  • holy crap! im 13 and i play the clarinet but wow!

  • me too im 13 this is my third yEAR AND IM STILL LAST CHAIR

  • this is imposible!!!

    you are very good

  • a new benny goodman is born

  • wow....

  • you're buff

  • i could do that plus im 12 to xD

  • :/ yh right cocky git

  • lol your so mean

  • This kid is insane!!!!!! I am 17 years old and have been playing the clarinet for 8 freakin years!!! I can barely play this piece, except for region band and thats it. I suck.

  • I met him when he came to the US. I've got his autograph! He is such a nice guy. I chatted with him. He has all the time in the world for his fans. Such a legend.

  • this kid makes kum bah yah look like hot cross buns! lol

i should know. i play clarinet

  • for speed? have you seen someone shred on a guitar?

  • Never compare instruments directly by only one parameter, that is meaningless.

There is no perfect instrument in the world. If there is, we don't need an orchestra, since all other instruments are useless.

For speed, piano wins, For dynamic range, string loose. But do you think this comparison makes sense?

  • You are obviously not a clarinet player, because any clarinet player could provide a strong argument against such a comment. The clarinet may not have the most dificult fingering positions, but the embouchure and air technique is unlike any other wind instrument.

  • Comment removed

  • it truly is difficult to master the position where your tongue goes and where the tip to your tongue goes when to blow and how to blow

  • you blatently have no idea about any instrument then do you... i play bassoon and clarinet and bassoon is harder to start out on but the clarinet is by far the harder to play to a fantastic standard

  • Comment removed

  • ahhahaha its the easiest?

    r you shitting me?

    hahahahaha your a joke
