Wouldn't be a tad racist, or at least presumptuous to assume that because a girl is black, she can't speak Japanese? She's working at a Japanese restaurant -- it's reasonable to ask if she knew what a word in the menu meant. lol.

Well... She answers "I don't know" first, looking a bit angry at the guy then he looks unconfortable and says "I thought you were...". She could have answer him "I don't speak japanese but wait, I'll ask the cook". That would have been nice and smarter, don't you think ? I don't say the guy was right to say what he said after, but I don't think the girl's first reaction was a nice reaction for a waitress.

if I was at a restuarant and asked the waitress, no matter what race she was, what something was or means and she said I dunno...I'm thinking the bitch ain't getting a tip.
