  • You can find this clip in the deleted scenes of the original dvd

  • sad really cos he didnt need to die cos the reason for the film was for him to make the jet engine go into the past in the first place therefore his death was just a sad happening

  • I was so gutted when I saw this clip, I have to pretend it doesn't exist because it ruins the film for me, it just made sense to me how I imagined it...I knew he obviously died and I figured he didn't get "smooshed" because you can see the jet engine doesn't actually drop on him but I just figured that he died in his sleep and didn't feel anything, but this video makes it that he died slowly and in a lot of pain..Richard Kelly dismisses it so I shall too.. R.I.P. Donnie Darko

  • Aww i thought that when hes under the blanket you can see his body dip in where he got smushed but i guess i was wrong

  • I've already heard this song ... how is it name?

  • @AllyDK9 It's first movement of gorecki's symphony of sorrowful songs.

  • is it a bonus track???

  • It's so sad =(

  • I don't think it's overkill either, but I feel like it's not a "dignified" way to see Donnie go, he's a character you really feel for I don't like seeing him suffer in that way. It would have ruined the way in which he leaves the world in the movie... laughing and then the cool slo mo scene.

  • The Cracked article sums it up perfectly: "One of the things people love about Donnie Darko is the weird, poetic, ambiguous way Donnie's death is handled. Sacrificing himself, staying in bed and getting crushed by a jet engine, would stop a series of events that would result in the love of his life getting killed. If he did it consciously, well that sure was sweet and noble of him...

  • @RD2006 He actually did do it consciously... and there is proof that it wasn't just his dream. If you go back to the end scene, somewhere before he dies (I think that it was a bit before he went into his bed) there are many car honks. The person who honked the car was FRANK! The primary universe Frank because he somehow realized what was going on and wanted to save Donnie before he would have to die a terrible death.

  • Well, I don't think it's meant as overkill. It's obviously meant to be somewhat symbolic--the way the plank goes to his chest is supposed to be like the liquid-time-thingies that he saw sprouting out of his chest, isn't it?

  • S Darko was not bad. Donnie Darko is the best movie ever though!

  • This is so sad and unnecessary... I'm glad that the director didn't include this scene on the movie.

I've always thought he died crushed by the aeroengine...

  • Didn't the kid say he got "smooshed by a jet engine"?

  • This isn't overkill. If a jet engine crashed into his room it would look a lot worse than that.

  • I have this ending in the deleted scenes on my copy of the DVD and I don't actually mind it. I don't think it would have ruined the movie, in fact, I think it makes a greater impression. Look at what he was willing to put himself through to save the life of one person.

  • Hey prick look in the original disc in the special features under deleted scenes and you might find it and i have the directors cut and guess what this isn't in it

  • Overkill, overkill, OVERKILL!

  • this is disturbing

  • this scene made me weirded out at first. when i went to bed i suddenly realized how disturbing and depressing it is to see donnie like this. after watching the in my sleep donnie darko video this puts a lump in your throat.

  • Wait..... So a huge ass jet engine crashes through his roof and he dies because of a pole through the heart?.........Is it weird that I am slightly disappointed he did not get crushed?

  • @WatsonandSherlock I agree I kinda regret watching this lol

  • I do think the director was right in cutting this scene from the movie--it's complete overkill, and really just unnecessary. But on its own, it's beautifully shot and so haunting.

  • i dont like this ending im glad they took it out i think there should have been more about Frank in the Movie tho i love him ^_^

  • They should've left it in even if it was over kill.

  • ow

  • This was cut for good reasons. Richard Kelly(director) even said it was just too much. I personally hate this clip and I'm glad it was cut. It's just rubbing salt in the wound really.

  • @RusselSyndrome Oh My Jesus I agree with u, THAT WAS TOO DAMN DISTURBING, and yes

he didnt deserve to die like that :(. . . this made my sister cry-OH HELL NO- :(( and it almost makes me

    wanna cry

  • was that jet engine the one that had origionally fallen at the beginning of the movie, or was that the engine from the plane that his mum & sister were on? CONFUSION.

  • @bethbetteley It was both.

  • @bethbetteley no its from a parallel universe. He sent it back in time. The people on earth have no clue where it came from. The 28 days where the movie takes place are set in a parallel universe. You should go here: and check it out. Its pretty intense. Either that or go to the movie website, but if you go to the website it takes a long time to discover all the answers.

  • what masturbation?wtf r u guys talking about?can someone explain me?thank you..

  • @MrCobraful In the directors cut, there is a scene where- under hypnosis he almost masturbates in the therapists office.

  • @dancingflame24 that's in the original cut as well

  • OMG This is so sad!!! :'(

  • Okay, I seriously got sad after watching this. If you look closely, you can see him gasping for air before he dies.

  • I have the director's cut and this is the first time i've seen it wtf

  • It really makes me sad to think about how he was laughing and smiling right before a giant peice of wood stabbed him through the chest... It also makes me terribly sad to know that he was still alive when it happened and he had to suffer a terrible death... But overall a great movie.(:

  • Maybe there is a symbol here. The way he is impaled reminds me of Jesus on the cross. They both sacrificed themselves, no?

  • @Fady83 Or how he had the invisible spear coming out of his chest leading him to the gun...

  • shit, this shoulda been part of the ending!

  • the worst thing about this deleted scene is that donnie was still alive, suffering until his death. :'( (as you canstill see him breathing)

  • omg that is so sad. hes still beathing!!!!

  • Oh because its not the big ass engine that kills him. its some crappy piece of wood from his roof?

  • @LeeL29 if you watch the ending again, you can see the engine crashes through his roof but doesnt crush him

  • plain and simple:he's a tragic hero this movie is a must watch!!

  • i hate this ending. it makes me almost cry.......... seeing donnie in pain. after what he's been through he didnt deserve a death like this....

  • Wow... Sweet Jesus

  • that loox painful

  • this scene isn't rare, its on the Orignal DVD, not the Directors Cut.

  • This doesn't look very much like Jake Gyllenhaal. He looks like an Asian

  • I remember reading that director Richard Kelly was talked into filming the scene by some producers because they felt the viewer might need to see Donnie's dead body (wtf?). So he filmed the scene with no intention of ever putting it in the finished film. That is why it's not included in the Director's Cut version, either.

  • it is so much better to leave stuff like this to the imagination, especially here

  • It's not in my director's cut edition, either, since I have region 1 and anushuger says it's on region 2 (PAL). Plus, I suppose Jake Gyllenhaal ended up in Weird Science via time travel?

  • this isn't from the director's cut its also in the deleted scenes of the theatrical cut dvd

  • wth? a freaking jet engine crashes into his room and he ends up getting stabbed with a stupid piece of wood?!?!?

  • this kinda suited it well. cause in the movie they talk about a spear in the chest like time travel haha.

  • intense.

  • Ugh, I'm glad they cut this, I thought the jet engine crushed him.

  • I also was under the impression he was crushed, but they pulled him out on a stretcher so I was kind of confused.

  • Like alot of you have sad, yes it is rather depressing. I've checked my directors cut and standard version of this movie on region 1 dvd but I can't find this scene. Is it hidden somewhere on one of them? If so were? Or is it on a dvd of a different region.

  • That's 'cause this isn't Donnie Darko, it's a Weird Science outtake.

  • @warrkrymez it is donnie darko idiot i have the dvd

  • /SOB

    D: D: D:

    ..donnie ;_;

  • To AlienBoy902:

Wow I didn't think of that at all, I bet thats exactly what they were doing. Well anyways this movie has been my favorite for 4 years and it still is. Each time I see this movie its like I understand it at least a little better no matter how many times I have seen it.

  • That's pretty awesome, but what happened to the Mad World theme?

  • i dont like the music that they put in they should have had something else insted of that

  • Shut up. This music fits perfect to the end of a hero.

  • To all the people wondering why the spear was still moving- he WAS still breathing. It's difficult to see because of the youtube quality, but his eyes are open and he's still breathing when he's first shown. Towards the end, he closes his eyes and stops breathing.

Which makes this scene even more depressing. I just watched my favorite movie character of all time's dying moment. D=

  • This is a deleted scene on the original dvd

  • Everyones saying they shouldn't of had this in the final cut. well I think they should have, because then once we saw this we'd feel really bad... idk i think it would of make sense to put it in there, because I was wondering specifically how he died until I saw this deleted scene

  • the directer thought it was to much gore and they wanted to have donnies death made up in your own mind

  • It was a sad movie but you feel better for having watched it.

  • I don't mind them showing this - it conveys the misery of his death, and the entire issue he's dealing with throughout the movie. His death is not a pleasant one.

  • Q_Q So sad. I wish this was in the movie.

  • nice , but i like the ambiguos finale you know you never know if he dies crushed impaled (see above ) or what but the movie rocks ( original n´d´s cut )

  • Wrong, SPPTIM, Jenna Malone didn't play Deb on NP, Tina Majorino did!

  • Holy shit! Is this for real? I own the director's cut... and this isn't on it. :/

  • im not sure i buy that frank is the human frank. frank the rabbit seems to be a caricature, human frank's death may have been necessary to create the entity but bunny frank seems less like a ghost or a time traveler but an amorphous creature, that really is the costume he embodies. people could call that a spirit but he really seems to be the preternatural victim, the rabbit from watership down, whos death donnie mocks. he is everything donnie is afraid of, hes like a herald of death

  • I'm glad they didn;t leave it in the movie... It would make it what it was meant to be.. a nothing... but now it';s a great movie!

  • No she wasn't.

  • hey, you're right I spent the whole movie trying to work out where i'd seen her before XD

  • this is so sad, I know that explains how he died, but the original ending is more proper, more touching because the last memory I would want from darko is that, he diyng impaled. my opinion

  • ç_ç

  • yeah, you're fucking retarded.

    the other guy was rightish.

he fell asleep, and saw into the future through a dream, which was the whole movie.

then wakes up, notices all the bad things that would happen if he went to the golf course, and sits in bed, and laughs.

    then he dies.

  • ...The bunny?

You...You are reffering to Frank the bunny, right?

  • He killed frank so that he would be able to travel to the past to warn Darko in the first place.

  • i read about it on wikipedia but it doesnt look like hes masturbating though

  • Is this a hidden feature on the disc

  • See this what makes the So called "Darko Fans" Wrong, they think they know everything, but they dont really know how he died. haha

  • The proper ending made me cry. S.Darko was creepy but... nothing like it should be.

  • the irony (i think) is what he said about the bunnies.

and how they want to have as much sex as they can before they die.

he also said that they didn't have emotions or thought about death.

  • Poor Donnie what should hurt more as frank said 28/06/42/12 is the end of your own universe perhaps the tangent universe of Donnie Darko:)

  • Is he still breathing?

  • OMG I never saw what happened after the jet engine fell on him.

  • in wikipedia says taht in the directos ending he died while doing an act of self-gratification....what was he doing??..

  • masturbating. lol.

i read the same thing on wikipedia and had to watch the 'true' ending. kinda saddening, really.

  • XD...he was shaky shaky his friend Joe

  • I sort of like this ending better.

Except for the masturbating part. :| It looks more like he is just breathing, though. Poor Donnie.

  • S.Darko sucked ASS!!! Donnie Darko was the best movie I have evr seen!!!!!!!!

  • i know!! i was so disappointed. not only had i been waiting for it since i read about it online...but im pretty sure that after that..my boyfriend wont ever let me pick out a movie ever again.

ugh. but seriously..i could talk shit about s.darko all day...its almost embarrassing that that was suppose to be the follow up to donnie.

  • i wish they didn't cut this. To me it really is symbolic to his overall sacrifice.

  • this movie is godly

i had to watch it twice before i understood everything lol

  • s.Darko wasn't as good as Donnie Darko but it was still really cool.

  • THE TRUTH. S. Darko was shit, if anything it was just a Fan Film, nothing else, its has nothing interesting other than what a fan would do with a title like Donnie DARKO. Death scene would of been useless because he's laughing when it hits his room and him dying would just through all that away.

  • [Q]uoted [F]or [T]ruth

  • if donnie died on the first movie how did samantha darko have the philosophy of time travel frm roberta sparrow on the 2nd ? if donnie got it frm his teacher cause he was curious about time travel but if it never happened how did she get it ?

  • ok, I just bought the directors cut, what part of the disc is this on, just so I know how to find it?. please.

  • MY GOD.

I have just watched the leaked version of S. DARKO & ive gotta tell you.Everybodys worst fears are true. Not only did this movie suck, but it completely raped the original. The trailer pretty much gives away the whole story, but the ending totally fucked with Richard Kelly's original. SPOILER: Samantha ends up saving the world by going back in time to when she was ten&the jet engine landing on her instead of Donnie with a new cast of Darko's including Donnie watching her body being removed!

  • if thats the case this sequal should not even be watched by anyone who loved the original. Just my thought.

  • That's not what happens in the movie at all. It still sucked though.

  • That's not what happened at all. And it wasn't a horrible sequal. It was bad, but it stayed true to the original concepts.

  • wow, you're a lying sack of shit

but yeah the sequel was basically the same thing all over again, but not as awesome as the first

  • @DockDemonick i dont remeber seeing that part in the s. darko!!!!? that never happened....

  • As much as this scene is not needed in the film, the music alone is enough to bring tears to the eye.

  • I'm glad this wasn't in the final movie because Donnie was in his bed and a plane engine fell on him but in this he was on the floor with a plank of wood sticking out of him....if they put them to together it would make no sense at all :O

  • if you look closely, he's still on his bed, its tilted upwards. also if a jet engine crashed thru the ceiling all the ceiling would fall through too, explaining the peice of wood. so it does make sense, but im still glad they didnt put it in the movie, cus i like the movie better without this, it sort of takes away some of the mystery if you put this scene in. but thats just my opinion. love this movie

  • no it doesn't take away from teh mystery it's supposed to make you think of why donnie saw chest spears all along and that this was his final destiny to follow a chest spear that kills him

  • ...What? No. The 'chest spears' were totally unrelated to the plank of wood jutting from his abdomen, if I'm correct; those were simply meant to be 'predetermined paths' of beings that Donnie happened to be able to see.

  • i think it's more like, he's been pierced in the chest, so that the chest spheres have been cut off, and thus, his life is too.

  • i see why they left it out.. i love the movie without this scene.

  • In some twisted way, this is comforting. It sorta clears up a lot of questions that are left within the movie. Maybe there's just something wrong with me. I guess we'll never know.

  • wow.. damn that is graphic but cool at the same time, thanks.

  • Its kinda brutal how he is paralyzed but still breathing and thinking while being impaled by debris.

the end is depressing especially with mad world playing.

  • i can see why they cut it out. kinda draws away from the story.

  • Everybody's gonna go someday

  • omg this is so sad: '(

I like the other ending better.

    i love jake gyllenhaal <33

  • this is the funniest thing i have ever seen in my intire life

  • when he gon back in time he did not have to kill himself because the girl was living

when he gon back so he could of just went out of his room like begining just beging curful not to make same miskates when the rest of his life gos on. unless he wanted to kill himself

  • If he didn't get killed by the engine, the girl would have died, frank would have still been shot and everything would be wrong. Thats why Frank made Donnie realise that the only way people could live would be if he died.

  • Not true at all. He didn't have to die so his girlfriend and Frank could live. He died because his knowledge of the Tangent universe could cause time paradoxes, therefore causing a huge mess in the Primary universe. Technically he probably could have chosen to stay alive, but I think at that time, he knew he had fulfilled his purpose and didn't feel as if he was dying alone (reference to what Grandma Death whispers in his ear.)

  • so very right

    donnie darko rules!!!

  • Yeah, I think Frank sent him to do all those tasks to show him the good he would be preserving if he chose to die. He didn't feel like dying alone would be so bad if he had something to die FOR.

  • I like the other ending...this is kinda corny!

Also I dont get this idea..why would be better, what would be the meaning..if someone can tell me!?

  • This scene shows how Christ-like his sacrifice was. Also, Donnie see's people's futures as a path of liquid light that emanates from their chest. It's ironically similar that this piece of wood comes out through his chest (thusly canceling his future).

  • If he hadn't died, then he wouldn't have burned down the authors house, and he wouldn't have been exposed, therefore kitty could chaperon the competition in california or wherever it was. Also, if his girlfriend never met him, she wouldn't have followed him that night, and she wouldn't have died.

  • The pedo guy was meant to have comitted suicide after Donnie's death apparently.

  • yeah that used to be on the site which is now dead.

  • Hmm...looks like a Christ metaphor

  • damn! well thats better then being smashed by the whole engine like i thought he was. that would have been way nastier.. still a bad death though

  • It was just a flesh wound.

  • Walk it off, Jimmy!

  • LOLOLOL

  • AW MAN :(

    That was tearful.

  • Thank you for posting this!

I loved this movie so much, I just saw it for the first time and I was a little confused...but, besides that... how does this scene give us more detail or insight?

kafkazepam said, "for example the spear motive"? I'm lost, really.

  • My Donnie...I cry for you my darling...

  • wow where did u find it?

  • ahhhh sad

  • I bought the directors cut but, I can't seem to find this scene anywhere. Where can I find it?

  • I've seen this scene on the "normal" edition. I'll get the director's cut but IDK if it's in. Anyway, you know the scene now...

  • oh wow, fansy shmansy, I've never seen that ending before, but yeah, when I watched it it didn't look like it crushed him either

  • I've seen about 3 endings of this movie. This I've seen for the first time. What about this scene? Why didn't they use it. It would explain so much. (The spear motive for example.)

This scene is MISSING, it's part of the plot, goddammit.

  • what do you mean?

  • OMG!!...that's so sad!! *cries*

  • omg

    this is so sad

i just watched the movie for like the 50th time

and now coz of this im like crying :(

  • youll be aight

  • how did he die

  • odd, u can see the stick through his body moving, like he is breathing. i really gotta see this film lmao

  • i think its just because the force of the blast and all the other factors were the reason the stick and donnie were moving. its just like if you kick a twig sticking up out of the ground it'll swing back and forth for a while.

  • actually, this is not on the director's cut. it's on the original version in the deleted scenes part of the extras.

  • that explains it...thanks.

  • i was wondering why when they're taking the body out he wasn't "smooshed" like the kid said he was

  • Omg....I've never seen this ending...

  • ahh! no!!!!! X'( but thnx 4 posting this! XD

  • HOLY SHIT!

    That's sad ):

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!

  • I too, thought teh jet turbine/engine missed him as I looked carefully I kept going back right as it broke the roof. My conclusion was: The woods coming down, swung towards his bed (shown) and i figured hed gotten crushed, but then i guess it makes sene. after he fell he landed on the wood?

  • Yeah, i noticed that too; I saw that the way the engine fell through the roof wasn't directly on top of him or even that close to him. However, I think that the wood from the ceiling simply was driven through him from the force of the impact.

  • wow, with the title of the video i thought it was some fake video, but wow =] i never quite knew how he died, i thought the jet engine missed him but i never saw the wood go through him. and i heard e died this way but never notice the wood. but. cool =] this has reassured me. i'm glad they took it out of the film actually. dunno why. i like him to much to see him get impailed lol

  • what exactly happened?

  • Have you watched the movie?

  • Esto no sale en la version normal!!!!

  • damn that had to hurt

I watched it again yestartday like 10th time :D and I can say - DAMN, thats a freakin awesome movie, the messages portraied in this movie ar amazing.

  • wow, i wish they would have kept it in there. such a good movie
