What happened to diggin a hole in the ground and pumping it yourself ,the cities and the hidden rates they have to live there,if your not well remunerated your just a slave to the rest ,man First Nations people had it all worked out till we showed up faak!
Actually, everybody's kinda lucky the valve problems were discovered this way. Think of how bad it would've been if there had been a major leak in the housing complex's basement and the water couldn't be shut off...
I could tell you guys were fucked when I saw Joe trying to solder in his shed.. And he thought he was welding... I am surprised they would hire someone with such little skill, The job must have gone to the lowest bidder... There goes the profit but I am sure it was a learning experince.
Surely you're not responsible for that bloke? Paying them to come out and turn off the valve is one thing, they broke it because the valve is probably old and corroded. It is not your fault and you should not foot the bill for that...
A while back in the UK there was a massive replacement of the old iron water and gas mains. I wonder when Canada's mains were last replaced? They don't last forever as proven here.
You've got to be kidding me lol, you aren't the ones that have to pay for that right?... Right!? That would be nuts... Funny effect of murphys law though :D
LMAO!! That's a PRIME example of the butterfly effect..! A fruit fly landed on that valve and POOF! A couple thousand people were out of water.. lol ; D *thumbs up*Murphy's law at work!!! hehehe ; )
This is the tail end of the make work project when these were initially installed. The original installation should have had multiple shut offs throughout each unit then, each block then, section. It's the original builders fault for cheaping out in the first place.
Thats why all the oil was spilt in the Gulf, they should treat oil like water, hehe,I must ask my air compressor is next to my water meter a new one, looks the same as what u servants to us all are installing, can the 60 gal air compressor have an effect on the meter?my bill says 81.000 gal& my meter says 78.000,5 yrs I seen the meter at 0 when installed?????,maybe ? maybe not,any insight? still wait for ur vids CCB,keep up the fun & public service, lol.Glenn from USA.
Lucky you guys are in Canada. If you were in the U.S., this is Thanksgiving. If the water had to be shut down on Thanksgiving, there will be a lot of angry people!
Go home and dont touch anything... Water and Joe dont mix. Hey I remember Joe videoing these town workers while they were on break and complaining about his tax money... By chance are these the guys who are saving your ass today?
@mrbreeze732 It's not joe's fault that the public water system was real old and bit of it broke, if it had been in good condition there'd be no problem, the city workers are saving their own ass and i suppose the general public's ass too, not joe and bloke's. If the city water setup was ok then it wouldnt have broke when bloke and joe needed it shut off to fix the water pipes in the condo
OOPS!!! How many more do you have to replace?? I hate to say it but with the same equipment if one did that there is a good chance more will.Good luck
haha. i live out in the country so i have a well and a well house. so i control my own water. well that sucks, alotta people without water. tisk tisk.
Nice job Bloke...We were diggig with a backhoe a few years back and dug up a plastic pipe with about 1,000 telephone wires in it. We had to call the phone company and they were out at our place for 2 days. We knocked out about 10,000 customers in our area and it cost us about $15,000 out of our pockets to have them repair it! OUCH
I remember when overcross was torned down that goes over Cal state 60 and I-215, Backhoe dug a little too deep and hit High Presssure pipe Gas line and broke it. City had Fire dept. close off area up to 2 mile which I live had to leave my house until Gas Co. shutdown that pipe it took them 5 hours to do it. That was no fun!
all the utilities up there are going to be deeper in the ground due to the frost depth... my area here in ohio is between 3 and 4 feet from surface elevation. Possibly goes a little deeper under pavement.
Alright Bloke, shut that valve off. Be sure to get it good and tight now, we don't want any water seeping in as we solder these fitt... aww shit Bloke! O.K., here's what happened.....
they don't put mains that deep around here for that very reason. they want then to be easily fixed when they go south. you wont find one more than 6 foot deep around here. now under ground power lines are 10 feet down by law. surprisingly our natural gas lines are only 5 feet down. and they are also polyurethane lines. but they don't dig those. they use a set drill. and drill those into the ground. sewage is only 3 feet from homes into a central 10 foot corridor under the road.
All that over a cheap pig metal valve. The same thing happen to me when replacing the element in my water heater. Close the valve then snap the stem when you go and turn it back on. At least your not alone, the city did it too. !!!
@99minerkc the city is responsible for maintaining all utilities outside of the residence. so anything outside of those homes the city is responsible for. inside the homes the property owner or hired contractor is responsible. in this case no one is to blame. this kind of stuff happens. i think its stupid they put those lines so deep though. here in the states you would't find one that deep. 6 feet at the most. some main corridors under the streets are super deep. but not water mains.
@99minerkc Usually the City has to pay for the broken main water valves. So Bloke and Joe has only got to pay for the that stuck 45 dollar valve by the old water meter.
PLUMBING is NEVER an easy job. that is why i HATE reworking anything plumbing related. it's usually always mucked up or rotten. specially in older buildings
Here in the States we are not responsible for anything from the meter out. Another words if anything happens before the meter the water company fixes it for free. Also if we need water shut off that's coming into a house or anything the water company shuts it off and turns it back on for free, and again is anything breaks wile they are doing this it's 100% their problem they are responsible for anything before the meters.
Glad you called the city to close that valve. Think if you had attempted to do it yourself and all that other stuff broke. You might have had 20,000 lawsuits aimed at you. What a mess, and good luck. Please follow up with the aftermath.
OK i just have to say this just after this video ended and the ads showed up on the screen the first vid that was there was britney spears ops i did it again
just like auto body estimates, the estimate is always open, for this exact reason, unforeseen problems.
the city will eat that bill, not your fault, you didn't turn the main valve out there.
It's there aged plumbing they installed.
I once had my gas line repaired in my front yard out to the main in the street, ended up shutting down the whole street and repairing there old shitty lines for about 4 square miles.
Then to fix that valve they have to shut the valve upstream of that one off. Then THAT one shears off and they have to shut off the valve above THAT. Eventually all the plumbing in the entire continent of North America gets shut off because you guys had to fix that one little valve.
