  • than K YOU SO MUCH

  • Im Italian also and have been knitting for 59yrs. and never seen or heard of this!but thanks as its an interesting co.

  • Is the first row easier to knit this way? Does it have other advantages versus other methods?

  • @Khamomil

This cast on is just really loose which works so well with brioche knitting. Plus the knitting just "begins" - there is no chain or braid effect along the bottom of the work then.

  • THANKS

  • Delightful. Watched my relatives do this so often, but never slow enough to learn. Thanks again very much.

  • What's interesting is the in italy I am about the only one doing that cast-on, at elast occasionally. The average knitter casts-on with a long tail co worked with the needle grabbed under one arm and the yarn in two hands, while some prefer casting-on tubularly with the waste yarn.

  • Hi Alice, this cast on got its name from a German magazine called Burda published in the 80's. June Hiatt calls it the alternate cast on and I am sure that it has other names in other cultures. I stuck with the "Italian Cast On" because that is what it was called when I first used it. By the way, I also make a long tail like the Italians.
