IF you rememebr, many volunteers were turned away or kept out of New Orleans...there were many who tried to help. The authorities kept volumes of volunteers out of NO..yet did not get the help to the people. If you recall....Blackwater was also there to keep people in the city..or to keep them out...now how is it that big bad Blackwater couldn't escort supplies into N.O.,yet we OVERpay them to escort VIP's in Iraq?
It's unfair to compare the two experiences. The Superdome was in the middle of the disaster. The surrounding area was flooded, the roof was coming off and the site was unreachable by relief workers. Also, there were no neighbors around to help out because the entire region was being evacuated. That meant no volunteers, no one donating goods--they had no support. Great job, San Diego! But let's not get down on folks in N.O. who had a horrible set of circumstances.
While there is truth in what you are saying...it was VERY difficult to get around the New Olreans after Katrina..but there where many documented cases of people driving all the way to the convention center area to rescue family members...if they could get there...how come FEMA couldn't? Think about all the media that made it down there with ther big trucks and crews...how could they get in..but yet suplies couldn't.
I here you man, I evacuated with my livestock and they were donating a ton of stuff. We took care of 30 farm animals, and the booth at the front of Del MAr was full of supplies:from tooth brushes to I.Vs...
I've a got an easy-pack-and-go thing going on for my horses and I in case another fire comes.

San Diegans decided to help each other out...
There was a line that was full of ppl donating supplies to the evacuees....that was longer then the line of ppl who had to evacuate...
If other places could help each other...then there wouldn't be cases of rape inside the stadium.
