I went to see Ron last night. Just him and his guitar ( oh and he played piano ) he was absolutely fantastic. I couldn't take my eyes and ears off him. We sat within touching distance. He got a MASSIVE standing ovation and came back to do 3 more songs. This man is too modest and hasn't got a single ounce of 'big-headedness' or 'yes it's me, look at me I'm great' Thing is, he IS AMAZING and I really think he doesn't know it himself.
I want all his albums and I was tempted to get them online for freeeeee.....sod that! I'm buying them all so I can put some money into this man's pocket! love him!
can people, especially 'wealthy' music people not have a whip around and ease this man's finacial situation, he's never had a hit song and therefore is always struggling.
yet he has produced some of the greatest music ever put out there, and is covered by the biggest and greatest names in the world of music.
FUND him and give him breathing space, too not only continue, but to feel the reward of his beautiful hardwork!!!
i just love reading all the comments here. only really discovered Ron recently and then saw him live. Instant love. as some have said, his demeanor is captivating; we met him afterwards and took pictures together. if only i knew before i met him how much i love him now.

I just discovered Ron after watching a BBC4 docu where Bob Rock produced the new cd. Awesome. I had tears in my eyes at points, NOT in sympathy but for the simple beauty of the mans demeanor, the songs and I can also relate to the way Ron struggles with self esteem issues when no apology to anyone is needed!! Firstly I thought wow this guy is the son of Macca and Costello but I hear a lot of other voices in the mix too. If Steve Earle et al give the man a nod..who can argue? I'm converted!!
Beautiful song and loved the HBO Canada documentary (though I'm thoroughly peeved to learn you're not well-remunerated for your efforts or even especially happy). I will definitely buy the new record. I had no idea people like me -- fans who love and value what you do -- have not provided the support you need and deserve.
Cracking song, makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck! Great vocalI, laid-back style that I love from so much of the 70's music (yes, sadly I am that old...) So many layers of music from the other instruments, and that haunting electric guitar... WOW!
reminds of a kid at my school that used to get bullied for looking a little wierd. AND NO IT WERNT ME FOR THE COMEDIANS AMONGST U. Come to think of it my photo does look kinda odd. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh
I'm sure he's a top bloke - and the song is awesome
Wonderful, heartfelt and poetic all at once. He has has that rare Bukowski gift of saying in very few words what lesser artists need chapters to get across... WTG Ron.
Ron's current tour is growing arms and legs. London Southbank Centre as part of Ray Davies` Meltdown and at other small UK venues being added as the ball keeps rolling. Mainstream UK radio needs the shot in the arm this guy can give.
I have to say that I really enjoyed the recent BBC TV documentary about the making of this album and could finally put a name to the voice I've heard before. However I can't help thinking that as good as Bob Rock is this style misses the mark by being too overproduced and middle of the road, Ron's lyrics seem to get drowned out by too many guitar riffs and loud / unsubtle drumming.
Still I now know who writes some the most beautiful songs I've heard.
Gerry Rafferty was a great guy, but I feel that Ron is more than a replacement. He has his individual style, pace and vision. Artists should not be replaced in our lives like gerbils. They are important in giving us our perspective and world view.
No offence Prawnball11 - I am sure that you didn;t mean it that way.
Heard Beleive it when I see it on Radio 2 and instantly loved it. Never heard of Ron but he did remind me of the late Gerry Rafferty. Watched the BBC 4 documentry and thought he sounded interesting, I felt sorry for him but I am sure fame & fortune would not suit him. Brought the CD it is class he has great voice, he has repalced Tom Petty in my car ! I also love Strawberry Blonde
I walked up to thank Ron after an in store performance at Waterloo Records in Austin. He was quiet, sincere, shook my hand and thanked me for coming. His hands are those of workingman, rough like carpenter. This guy is true inspiration to an amateur songwriter like myself, and every tune is a treasure. See him and believe it.
When I went to buy his album they were all gone., but one .I got it ! Yeah! Now I walk around Kensington, here in Calgary so proudly singing believe it when I see it.I think he made this album just to get hugely famous,(aswell as blessing us all with his beautifull music) and I think it's definately a smart move.We have a gazillian radio stations here,I think he's gonna be on more of them soon .Just a feeling.Thank-you too, Bob Rock.
I love this mans aura, he exudes humilty, and has a rare gift to write for love of writing., putting the buisness side of the industry last. This song is so infectous, ive got to share, a supreme talent..Awesome xxxx
I'm a 12 year-old girl, and I love Ron Sexsmith. I can't wait to see him in London. Please watch my video, I'm also a singer-songwriter. I'm no where near as talented as Ron, but I've tried, haha. Please watch my song.
This guy is a genius. Nice to know there are still some good singer song writers around whe you consider the crap that is passing its self off as music these days.
I reckon I'm probably the only 12 year-old girl in the world who likes Ron Sexsmith. I'm inspired by him.. his music is beautiful. I write music, and a lot of it is inspired by him. I look forward to seeing him in London soon. Please check out two of my songs:
Quality songwriter, anyone else thinks he sounds a bit like Paul Mccartney and Paul Young rolled into one? That's just an observation not a criticism, I think he's got a great voice actually. Wonderful song, sung from the heart, some of the best songs come from our inner turmoil, poor Ron, he must be suffering!! Can't wait to see him live.
its been a revelation coming across this guy. Really looking forward to going over back catalogue and i only came across him last Friday on BBC. Proper songwriter.
