rotastak cages are good to put in a bar cage then tip it over for a baed or something it is is snall enough. the other thing i was going to type is that i saw a bigger hasmter cage but unfortunaltler y youtube doesnt let you put a url on
damnit i wish i could get rotastak in the USA... they are exactly what i want in a hamster cage, fun but fully plastic no bars.. uhg... theres hardly even any on ebay that wont cost a fortune to ship to america...
@vashug Rotastak are awful cages. They have poor ventilation and are too small for Syrian hamsters. They aren't even really suitable for dwarfs. If I had my way, first thing I would do would be to burn all Rotastak cages!
holly,, when i look at that i cant help but wonder how u could possably clean that huge set up once a week or at least once in 2 weeks ....goood luck lol and wats the point of all those cages its alot of money and more than enough space and in each cage it containes the same things so why not just get 1 big cage or like 2 cages attached max u gonna die cleaning plus hamsters wouldnt move all around the cages probably only stay in a few areas lol
It looks like your lovely weekend is spent on cleaning this cage for hours.. too big and complicated... get a simple cage? I really wouldn't use this cage because there are too many tubes I am afraid hamster they get lost and couldn't find their way back to its foods and water =,(
@littlehamster83 i have the same opinion but if shes buying a pack of robos then they can team up for foriging and sleeping togather :)but with one roboit would be a bit unpleasent in such a huge setup :(
cool rotatstak i have about eight rotastak cages myself!, i have about 5 starter kits, 5 beds, loads of tubes, 1 maxi unit, 3 hydration units, 1 deluxe pod, 2 deluxe starter kits and 4 bottles!!!!!
Very Cool My Hamster Would Love That!We Just went throgh a loss of her brother Buddy...Very sad but she if doing really well! i hope your hammies are fine.Well i love the cage i did that but then i took it apart because it was too much to clean lol ok well good luck!
Haha nice! i used ti have a large set up kinda like this, and my syrian hamster lived to be 4 years old. The adventerous rotastak set up sure kept it healthy!
Couldn't possibly tell, you as I've bought it piece by piece, over the last 13 years. Some of it really is that old, so I figure it's good value for money. Other brands I have bought have cracked, broken or become worn after just a year or two.
ohkay, how will you ever find it? i would always think it would be lost, and two arnt you worried about cleaning it? Ahh, thats a hard job, but very cool set up and cage i must admit!
I just put the potty, with toilet litter inside, into the corner that I've observed them going back to for toileting. They don't always 'get it,' the first time and will move their 'toilet area' a few times, before they understand that this is where they are supposed to go. When you by the little toilet cubicles, they come with a small scoop, so you can also use this to scoop up soiled bedding in the cage and put it inside the toilet cubicle, to give them a subtle, little hint!
I clean everything at least every 10 days at the most, but my girls are toilet trained, so that cuts down on mess. I wash it in warm, soapy water, on stained pieces (hamster urine can do that,) I use a mix of water and apple-cider vinegar to disolve build-up. After rinsing and drying it thoroughly, I reassemble it and add lots of bedding. I do 2 or 3 cages a day, but the ones that are used more often (the ones they sleep in,) get cleaned twice a week, as they are used more.
I couldn;t tell you, because I've collected it over the course of 13 years and most of my oldest pieces are still in great condition. On the whole, I think ir's great value for money and it's brought happiness to generations of my hamsters!
I clean two or three cages and some tubes each day and it only takes about an hour. The whole lot is cleaned every week, but it doesn't really get that dirty, because Gucci and Prada are toilet trained.
LOL! No, just two, but I work and don't have as much time to spend playing with them, so I like to make sure they have plenty to do. They really don't miss me at all, when I'm gone, because now my collection of cages is even bigger!
Rotastak cages are made my Armitages Ltd and Habitrail cages are made by Hagen. If you are outside the UK, try buying secondhand on Ebay (the UK one is better for Rotastak, while the US one is better for Habitrail)
I've got two winter whites in there and I can honestly say that they use the whole system on a daily basis. In the wild, they'd travel great distances and this helps keep them very fit. Now their system is even bigger and they have even more fun. Please check out my newer videos on my channel.
You mean how do I assemble it? It takes a bit of time, at first, but once you have it all together for the first time, disassembly and reassembly is a snap!
omg cool set up! I can't imagine how long it'll take to clean out though. Ive got only got the rotastak tunnel of fun and a gerbil( one recently died wah). How many you thinking of getting?
I've had my hamsters in Rotastak for more than 10 years...I've never had any die of anything other than old age (none of my syrians died under 2 years of age, which is very good if you live in the tropics.) I think that some people go too big and outlandish, before they really learn what the rotastak or hamsters are capable of. It's improtant to start small and extend, once you extend your knowledge of the product and what your animal is capalble of.
They are separated, because they don't get on. Before I got them, they began to fight with eachother, even tho they are siblings. I keep them separated, because I work during the day and I can't supervise them and ensure their safety, if they lived together while I am away from home. But don't worry...thery are plenty happy!
Each piece comes with a set of tubes, so even if you don't buy any extra, you'll have plenty to work with. I think there is just one set of tubes that I bought separately. This is the "Spaghetti Junction' the set of coloured, clear, hard, curly tubes linked with red bands. You can get them seprately, or with certain sets.
I've bought the pieces as I've been able to afford them, over the years (they all sell separately and are quite expensive.) I've also bought second-hand, good condition pieces on Ebay, to help cut down on the cost.
I'd suggest habitrail for robos, but only because of all the ladders I've had to buy to go in my Rotastak houses. Now that they are grown, tho, both my winter whites can navigate the tubes without using ladders. I've personally never owned Robos myself, so I couldn't really say for sure that yours will be able to do so, with time.
I'm afraid that Rotastak isn't really recommended for gerbils, as they are notorious chewers, even more so than hamsters. My friend's gerbils easily chew through plastic and it'd be such a waste to pay that much money, only to have it last a matter of days (weeks if you're lucky.) I'd reccomend getting a tank for your gerbils, instead and you could half-fill it with woodchip. My friend does that and her gerbils dig long, interconnecting tunnels through it!
My hamsters have a fan in their room, as well as extra ventilation holes drilled into the lids and high-up on some of the sides (A perk of having an engineer for a Dad!) Because of the climate here, I take my hamsters out every day or two, open all the lids/doors and turn the room fan on high, to air it all out. In the end, it's what you can reasonably maintain and what works best for you.
No, it's not wobly. The multiple, stacked units hae extra security clips locking them together and I check it all often, to make sure it's all stable and not in danger of breaking open, especially the tubes. Hamster's would live like this in the wild and since they have scent glands that mark the tubes as they pass through, they don't get lost, because they can tell how long ago each trail was last used. It only takes them a few reconaissance missions, then they can run through this lot! :)
Yeah I have a coment...ITS LIKE HAMSTER HEAVEN!!! You should totally call it the "Hamster Inn" your hamsters are going to be living the life. Jeez can't wait for my hamsters.
Well, I plan to expand it, so watch this space. I've managed to get a lot of good-quality, second hand Rotastak for bargain prices on Ebay, but I still have to get it back from the UK (some sellers would only sell to local customers and some pieces are too heavy and thus very expensive to post overseas.) I plan to wrestle it all home in my suitcase, when I return from the annual trip to the UK, later this summer!
Also, how do u get it so stable looking? When I had a v large rotastak cage (it wasn't anywhere near as big as yours!), it was hard 2 stop all the long, curvy tubes from wobbling! Any tips?
I absolutely LOVE your set-up tho, & I'm very jealous! Please keep the vids coming :)
I use extra security clips on my Rotastak pieces and I've been using the brand for years (about 13, now!) so I've come to learn how to best set it up in such a way as to ensure security and stability. Cleaning and set-up duties just come easily now, with so much practice! :)
A cage or two and some tubes per day is really quite manageable. When you've used the brand for as long as I have, you get quite adept at dismantling it, washing it and re-assembling it, fast!
I don't know why they have discontinued some unit...I know that some units have bad circulation, but that can be remidied by drilling some extra holes in the unit and ventilating the room well. Some units don't seem like they'll have this problem, but they don't seem to be around anymore, such as the Super Sahara and the Lunar Launchpad...Maybe the price puts people off? It is one of the priciest brands on the market.
Good news! The meeting with my friend is set up for tomorrow and by the end of the day, I should have a couple more videos of my two brand new hamsters! Check back then!
I've since changed the set-up again, after a friend with more experience with both hamsters and Rotastak pointed a few things to me. The new set-up is more friedly to the young hamster and also easier for me to disassemble, clean and re-assemble. I'll post a new video soon!
It's not difficult to clean, if I do a couple of pieces per day + some tubes. Plus, my hatsers are toilet trained before they are allowed into the whole set and even then, it takes them a while to learn how to move round it all. While they are small, they can't climb the tubes by themselves, so I put mouse ladders into the vertical tubes.
From stores in different parts of the UK. I've also ordered a few online. I've collected these pieces over the years and they're certainly not cheap, but they've lasted so well, longer than any other brand of hamster housing I've owned.
Does anyone own a Rotastak Lunar Launchpad unit? I've thought about getting one (when funds allow!) but am not sure how it would go with my set-up. Pictures of it do not show where the tubes would come from, if you connected it up to other pieces. If anybody would post a little 'tour video' of the Lunar Launchpad, I'd be most grateful! And if anybody here wants to see any Rotastak pieces, closer up, from all angles, I'd be happy to post a vid for you!
My last hamster, Jazzy, could *run* through it...In the dark! So nope, she never ever got lost and only had to navigate a new set-up a couple of times before she knew it! She had a habit of storing food in some tunnels, thus blocking them off, but already knew the quickest route around it! It's like she had a map in her head! Rodents are so unbelievably clever!
I anticipate my new job settling down, soon, which is why I've set it up again. I'm going to adopt some hamsters from my local animal shelter. I also thought that some other hamster enthusiasts on YouTube could help me to make sure that everything is all ready for them. I love my pets and take no offense to the constructive criticism of others, especially when my pets are the ones who benefit! :)
you are amazing! you really put alot of thought into the cage to make sure that the new hamsters would be okay. i am sorry about jazzy, but its sweet that you are continuing the memory. The cage is perfect and the two new hamsters are going to love it.. best of luck ..btw, i used to have a hamster - they're great :)
The brand Rotastak is produced by Armitage Ltd. It is one of the more expensive brands on the market, but I've had some of it for more than ten years. Given good care, it will see you through generations of hamster. If you'd like to find out more about it Google 'Rotastak' and if you are interested in buying, but do not live in Europe, take a look at Ebay. I just ordered and recieved a piece of Rotastak from there...Also, you can find cheaper prices there, than buying right off the shelf.

Is it safe? It looks wobly and what if they get lost. They could escape ;S

those hamsters are goin to be living the dream!!!!!
lovelouby4444 3 years ago
Yep, they certainly are! Hamsters have such short life-spans, so this way, such a short life is filled with BIG enjoyment! :)
HMPrincessJazzy 3 years ago

HMPrincessJazzy 3 years ago
must be a night mare to clean it :)
MayE340 3 years ago 3
Nope, not really, when you do a few pieces and tubes per day. It's actually quite manageable.
HMPrincessJazzy 3 years ago
Yeah, I'd like 2 know how u clean it, too!
Please keep the vids coming :)
jesslynn30 3 years ago
I use extra security clips on my Rotastak pieces and I've been using the brand for years (about 13, now!) so I've come to learn how to best set it up in such a way as to ensure security and stability. Cleaning and set-up duties just come easily now, with so much practice! :)
HMPrincessJazzy 3 years ago
one question........HOW DO U CLEAN THE FREAKIN CAGE!!!
KwLFaMiLy 3 years ago
A cage or two and some tubes per day is really quite manageable. When you've used the brand for as long as I have, you get quite adept at dismantling it, washing it and re-assembling it, fast!

how come rotastak have recently discontinued loads of products? Simple things are now really hard to get hold of...
ShuttleDiscovery 3 years ago
I don't know why they have discontinued some unit...I know that some units have bad circulation, but that can be remidied by drilling some extra holes in the unit and ventilating the room well. Some units don't seem like they'll have this problem, but they don't seem to be around anymore, such as the Super Sahara and the Lunar Launchpad...Maybe the price puts people off? It is one of the priciest brands on the market.
HMPrincessJazzy 3 years ago
But one of the best brands i think
ShuttleDiscovery 3 years ago
Yes, without a doubt...It lasts so much longer, too. The plastic doesn't get discoloured and cloudy-looking and the bars don 't rust.

Wow!! Now that is what you call a cage!! I cant wait to see your new hamsters!!!

I've since changed the set-up again, after a friend with more experience with both hamsters and Rotastak pointed a few things to me. The new set-up is more friedly to the young hamster and also easier for me to disassemble, clean and re-assemble. I'll post a new video soon!

HOW U GANNA CLEAN IT LOL
melancp11 3 years ago
It's not difficult to clean, if I do a couple of pieces per day + some tubes. Plus, my hatsers are toilet trained before they are allowed into the whole set and even then, it takes them a while to learn how to move round it all. While they are small, they can't climb the tubes by themselves, so I put mouse ladders into the vertical tubes.

nice bet the hamster or hamsters will love it i got 3 piece rotastak nice!!!
domcharlton 3 years ago 3
where did u get all those cages from ( what store ) Lol
VmkSpeed 3 years ago
From stores in different parts of the UK. I've also ordered a few online. I've collected these pieces over the years and they're certainly not cheap, but they've lasted so well, longer than any other brand of hamster housing I've owned.

great cage!

Woooooah! Iwonder if the little hamsters would get lost XD
Kuria 3 years ago

Bubblegum0234BABE 3 years ago
Wow! Where did you but those catges?
mgracemm 3 years ago
The brand Rotastak is produced by Armitage Ltd. It is one of the more expensive brands on the market, but I've had some of it for more than ten years. Given good care, it will see you through generations of hamster. If you'd like to find out more about it Google 'Rotastak' and if you are interested in buying, but do not live in Europe, take a look at Ebay. I just ordered and recieved a piece of Rotastak from there...Also, you can find cheaper prices there, than buying right off the shelf.
