The US was really only in the war on the ground for less than 4 and a half months; when we commenced action at the beginning of July of 1918 we had about 950,000 men in Europe and about 2.2 million in Europe on Nov. 11th.
50,000 men died in combat in that time; we came in the war late but we weren't there to fool around, either.
