  • It is a sad event to lose a beloved friend. Having dealt with Cushings or insulin resistance in our group of Morgans for nearly 20 years, know that advances/ treatments have come a long way to give our horses the support they need to stay free of symptoms, & often return to full function. Not so 20 yrs ago! Our 8yo home grown mare developed laminitis & was treated aggressively with diet & meds & off all meds in 6 weeks & sound since. Get the best info & success can happen!

  • When I get to incurable and in much pain....I would love help to go to heaven. It is very sad to make them suffer when there is no more you could do to make them comfortable. Good on you for caring about her. XXXXX

  • God bless Eve. My horse has just been diagnosed.

  • I know this is hard to hear, but the kindest thing to do would be to help her on her way to waiting for you in Heaven. She is in a LOT of pain and nothing is going to help her quality of life at this point.

Good luch with the grief - I still grieve over my horse that had to be euthanized eight years ago.

    God bless.

  • @ktgodwin100 Don't worry. She already went to heaven. This video is from last summer. Sorry to hear about your horse. :(

  • You know what I don,t know how old she is or him.But I won,t put any pet down for only pain reasons.I,m atheritic don,t put me down.Ya it hurts but pain relievers help us.I,d rather be alive and hurt then dead any day.Let her/him do what he wants in the yard.mine is 25 .

  • I understand that sometimes euthanization is the only option when a horse or any animal is in discomfort. I'm very sorry for you and Eve. Best of luck to you.

  • But obviously you can only do so much for her and sometimes it's best to just let them rest. :(

  • @Morganhorseluvr Unfortunately due to the pain she has become rather sour and grumpy which is difficult for the staff at the boarding barn to put up with. I feel horrible because she is a sweet loving horse- you just cant see it because she doesnt feel good and is acting crabby. I will probably have her put down this spring unless she starts looking a lot better. Even though I really love her it is the kindness thing really for all involved. Thank you for you kind words and sympathy.

  • Well, someone I know has a lame horse and they have him on some medication for the discomfort that works very well, if you would like, I could ask them what it is.

  • @Morganhorseluvr Bute is a strong prescription pain killer. That is what my vet recommended and so that is what she is taking and it seems to do a good job of relieving the pain, unfortunately it is not a cure though because when she is taken off of it you can tell she is in pain again. I feel bad because she is basically healthy, normal horse except that her feet are extremely painful so she has trouble doing the absolute basics like walking to get a drink of water.

  • :( we

  • Is she in pain or discomfort now?

  • @Morganhorseluvr Yes, unfortunately she is lame again :( I have her on bute and obviously I don't walk her or make her move fast ( I trotted her for a few steps in that one video but that was it) for the most part she walks very slowly inside each day to eat her medicine and very slowly back out. The boots I bought for her don't fit so maybe I will have to try some different ones. I am not sure if they help though. At this point I am kind of at a loss as what to do. Poor horse.

  • Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. In the video she seemed to be 'tender', is she in any pain right n

  • Is there any chance of recovery?

  • @Morganhorseluvr From the Cushings no there is not because it is caused by a brain tumor- you just treat the symptoms with medicine as long as possible. From the founder there is possibly a recovery it is actually a controversial subject right now with many people arguing over whether or not it is treatable and what is the right treatment. So far I have not had much luck with Eve as she is still lame in Jan 2011 :(

  • thats starange i love morgans and i getting 1 and im called eve

  • aww poor baby :'(
