I don't understand how Ross scored higher than this. In a situation where two gymnasts have essentially the same number of mistakes, the one with more difficulty should win out. Sidorova's routine was better.
@sqekcx Sidorova had one more tiny wobble, but was cleaner on the dismount. I hate to say it, but she really got screwed over in this competition by gymnasts with larger reputations.
@sqekcx What an overstatement. She did the double pike better than most. I guess if you stare at the screen for ten minutes you can see the tiniest step forward with her right foot, but it's nothing compared to Ross's hop backward. In my opinion, the tentativeness that Ross showed from the beginning makes their execution virtually the same. Since Sidorova's routine was more difficult, she should have scored higher. You're free to disagree with me, but you're not going to change my opinion.
I don't have to stare at the screen for ten minutes to spot the step. A tiny step and a tiny hop are both one tenth deduction. And sidorova's double pike is not a good one. For a good one, look at bridget sloan's in quals at the 2008 olympics. Sidorova had little body tension and precision compared to Sloan. She grabbed her legs and flipped and hoped her feet meet the ground at the right time, which is what happens here.
@sqekcx Look, I never said Sidorova's double pike was exceptional. I said it was better than most. Of course Sloan's is better, it's one of the best out there. But as you may have noticed, few people who do the double pike actually do it that well. IMO, Sidorova's is better than Ana Porgras's or Ksenia Semyonova's, or really most double pikes. And I don't see the chucking. She was in control at the end so she expected to land low and knew how to deal with it.
@sqekcx I'm sorry, are you claiming you have some kind of insight I lack? Can you perhaps read her mind through the camera? Check out her beam routine from Russian nationals, and you will see that she does not "chuck" this dismount.
This skill is hit and miss for her. The one in all-around was good, but the one in finals was just as bad as this one. She was lacking in technique. She threw her body back and just flipped till her body met the ground.
@sqekcx It's more hit than miss. Again, you fail to see my point. Nearly everyone who throws this dismount is chucking it. If she's chucking it, she's still doing it better than most of them.
You finally admit she was chucking it. And no, she's not doing it better than most people. It's just as bad. And Ross had a better dismount anyway. You didn't really have a point. It was invalid.
@sqekcx Actually, I didn't. I said "IF she's chucking", not "she's chucking." Overall, Sidorova's routine was better. You have to look at the whole, not just individual parts.
Whether she chucked it or not, her double pike was as bad as everyone else. And she did chuck it.
After looking at both routines a few times, I think both routines were about as unclean as each other, though Sidorova's turn-leap combo looked a little iffy, which could result in a loss of 0.5 if the judges were harsh I can't give you an accurate score though because I'm not a judge, but you are not one either as your lack of knowledge about gymnastics is so apparent.
@sqekcx Please. Now you're just grasping at straws and throwing out insults. Are you saying that my saying she is not "chucking" somehow means I know nothing about gymnastics? Please, give me a universally accepted definition of the word "chucking" as it pertains to gymnastics. And, please, give me specific examples of my "lack of knowledge about gymnastics." In addition, look at what you're saying and realize you're also insulting yourself.
@sqekcx Stating my opinion as a fact was misleading, and I apologize. The truth is, nearly everything in gymnastics is in the eye of the beholder. I preferred Sidorova's routine, you preferred Ross's. They are close enough in execution that either of us could be "right"-but then I don't really think there usually is a "right" in women's gymnastics. I just felt Sidorova didn't get the recognition she deserved at this competition.
Nastya is such a great gymnast! I think, she is so necessary for Russian Team at the OG-2012.

How was her dismount cleaner? She landed extremely low.

@sqekcx Cleaner form in the air, no hop backward.

I'm sorry I've been so rude in my previous comments. I tend to be quite sensitive when it comes to Russians.
