  • the diary entries in the tv show are brilliant......the visuall jokes are great.... the books and the series are great though i havent watched the film and i just never will...... i loved watching the series when i was a kid in australia....

  • Wow, everything makes sense now.

  • This series is decent enough. I don't think either the TV series or film live up to the books.

    The Radio show does.

I still prefer the recent movie, above all others though.

  • @orinanime Actually Douglas Adams actual wrote the radio series first as he didn't like to write large books originally (was in the making of documentary of the TV series and of Douglas Adams). So really the Books follow the radio series and not vise versa.

Now I didn't listen to the radio series but I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Overall loved all things Hitchhikers guide.

  • @twdalbeck27

i didn't say the radio show followed the books.

i said they're the only other iteration that lives up to them.

As I feel the books are the best and most fully developed of the incarnations of the H2G2.

    That's all I meant.

    Sorry, I wasn't more clear.

  • @twdalbeck27 In any case, the first two radio series were first, then the books, then the last three series.

And I strongly reccomend the radio series. They're all brilliant.

  • british comedy rules!

  • indeed some believed that we should not have left the water...

  • I have always believed that humans were a dense lot... in more ways than one! LOL

  • I always loved these animations

  • many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place.

  • 0:51 Douglas Adams :D

  • @hotelmario510 Oh yeeeaaaaah :P

    Did not notice that.

  • @Sindre1 Well you have now! :D

  • What's this clip? I only knew the movie with mos def!

please answer! want to get it asap!

  • @MissSushipunk This is from the description box: "A clip from the 1981 TV series adaption to Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

  • 0:55.... USSR? Dates it!

  • which came first? the narrator or richard dawkins? One is definitely mimicking the other

  • @mrmalade The Narrator is Peter Jones. Before Dawkins.

  • @CardinalDextrous83 Don't be so sure. Dawkins first rose to fame in 1976 with his book "The Selfish Gene". THHGTTG came out in 1978. In any case, Jones has his own voice, and Dawkins has his own. Neither is impersonating either.

  • the ultimate ref for HHGTTG is the original 2 radio series. I think the Futrama people could make a good shot at something **based** on HHGTTG. Live action stuff gets snarled up in special effects that detract from the point.

  • @Gry Fu 1 There were some aspects of the second book in it, and a line or two.

  • How many times better was this than the movie?

    42

  • @EXRazeBurn Lol, Douglas Adams wrote the f*ckin' screenplay of the movie.

  • @Gryfu1

A good sceneplay by no means makes a good movie. While it is usually clever writing, the movie (I'm assuming you mean the newer one) often doesn't fully capture the atmosphere of the series (televised or radio) or the books, and the actors, while some were good choices (i.e. Arthur Dent and the narrator) most were horrendous mistakes (i.e. Trillion, Zaphod Beeblebrox). Not to mention that since it is a movie, it tries to cram the whole book series into one 2 hour affair. Aweful.

  • @EXRazeBurn I don't really see how the choice for the role of Trillian in the movie is a mistake. Trillian is described as having black hair in the book. She has black hair in the movie, but blonde hair in the TV series.

And what the hell makes you think they tried to cram the whole book series into a 2 hour movie when THEY DID NOT. The movie is based on only the first book.

  • not as good as the book but yanooo

  • 42 ratings, that's your answer.

  • the tv series was INFINITELY better than the film...and as for the remake...(of the film) well, words fail me!!!

  • The TV series was 1,000 % better than the movie

  • so your saying it was 10 times better

  • 11 times, i would think

  • its 10 times better, which makes the total 11 if you count the original.

  • 100% + 1,000% = 1,100% , which is 11 times better, yes. a very silly argument

  • you are wrong. if it is 1000% better, then it is 10 100%s better, and if a 100% is one time better, then it is 10 one-time-betters, or ten times better. if you have one apple, and someone else has 6 times more than you, then they have 6 apples not 7.

  • @paulcrash especially the animation segments, they're so much more interesting and intriguing to look at.

  • @paulcrash so true

  • @paulcrash And the books were 1,000% better than the TV series.

I think the TV series only got to book 2. Out of 5.

  • @SirVladDracula To be fair, when the TV series was done, those two books were the only ones that had been written.

  • @ProtoKun7 That's fair enough. The new series didn't go any further though;

and the last three books were amazing too.

  • @SirVladDracula New series? There was only one TV series; I wish it had carried on, to be honest.

  • @ProtoKun7 I'm sure I remembered another one...

Must be my mind playing tricks on me. Probably muddling up the movie!

Which, was poor to be honest.

  • @SirVladDracula Nope, just the six episodes. And I must agree with you there...I enjoyed the movie, but in terms of continuity with the other media...it just doesn't quite work.

On the other hand, it did have Zooey Deschanel in it.

  • @ProtoKun7 Its a shame really... But, I guess at least now modern "visionaries" can't ruin the last 3 books with artistic license; like they butchered the Eragon book. ._.

I'm a man that appreciates his graphics. Like; I prefer the newer Star Wars movies over the old; just because they're prettier.

But, Hitchhiker's Guide is where I drawn that particular line. The movie is prettier, but...

Hitchhiker's is genius. The movie was just dumbed down for an audience.

    =[ Hitchhiker's abridged.

  • @paulcrash the first movie or the 2005 movie?

  • @72metallicafan

I was referring to the 2005 movie. I didn't know there was a previous movie version.

  • @paulcrash Thanks for your opinion.
