  • I hate my American accent. I want something interesting like a New Zeland accent. Or French. I'll even take British. -__-

  • Without the color-synchronized subtitles I would be COMPLETELY lost.

  • I never realized how different we sound compared to other accents, and a class mate from Whales with a charming accent thinks the American accent is awesome. I personally think we sound kind of garish...

  • @thefangedfollower Wales...

  • Why am I watching this when I'm from america? XD

  • Ermm, firstly, try not speak in such a patronising way, just because people can't speak in an American accent it doesn't mean that they are stupid. My American accent sucks and I'm definitely not stupid. Secondly, you have ears like Prince Charles.

    I'm English btw.

  • I love sudonese housewives. I still do not know how to speak like an American.

  • Man, if it weren't for those subtitles

I don't really have a typical Swedish accent but I'm pretty sure you can here that I'm not from America and that sucks. The English we learn in school is gay British English. No offense to gay people ;)

  • I didn't know there was an American accent. There is southern, northern, new yorker, brooklyn, jersey, so on and etc etc etc...I mean which American accent is considered THE only one that is important? IMO they are all equally American, with each having its own dialect. And all are worth looking into by those interested in American accent"S".

  • @ChannelHMC What I noticed when some people said "American accent," they did a Californian accent. But of course, there are many American accents. They probably just don't know or don't think about it....that's just my guess.

  • @toonmag50 Deal with it.

  • @HitodamaKyrie I think I over reacted the other night-I apologise. I still think it"s a cultural problem to British English, but I do not dislike the US or US accents because of this.

  • @toonmag50 Indeed. Why don't we all just agree to laugh at the canadians and be done with it? Haha, I kid. I have no care what anyones accent is like. Accents matter none.

  • @HitodamaKyrie- thanks man-peace made, it"s 01.27 on a Sunday morning, here and life seems so much better after a gallon of ale - see you

  • I love how this guy opens his mouth so wide.

  • I don't see the logic in learning to speak American English as opposed to English English

  • Comment removed

  • @nickkellie who the fuck would want to move to America? xD

  • Comment removed

  • @TehCacti what the fuck do u have against america??? >:(

  • Why would you want to learn the American accent?

Britisch English is much more widely spoken in the world than American-English.

People who like to speak with an American accent only do this because they think it sounds cool, because it's more often spoken in movies and music.

That thick-R sound also takes a lot more effort to pronounce. In Britisch-English the R is often silent. Stretching the A vowel all the time, as in "Hat" is also too exhausting, thus unnatural.

  • @Geeljasjes Unnatural? Who made you the authority on speech? No matter the language, all dialects and accents are natural progressions.

  • @Geeljasjes Well, it's important if you don't want to be gawked at for an accent if you're foreign. People notice. If you're going to America for a University or to live there. Some people like to just sound like people around them when they're traveling, so it can be handy.

And haha, it's natrual for people who are raised speaking English in America. It's just as unnatrual for a British-English person to make their Rs heard as it is for an American to have them be silent, same with the "hat".

  • @mrbloobaru Actors Hugh Laurie(House) and Christian Bale can transform their accents from at a snap of a finger. But they did have speech pathology coaches, so no wonder...plus talent

  • @Geeljasjes Actually American English is more widely spoken.. By far..

  • @Kanoki989

    congratulations

  • Oh my God I'm cracking up so much from this guy! His facial expressions are priceless XD

  • I appreciate that you're trying to be really clear for non-native speakers, but I hope not every video has such clipped differences between words, because native speakers don't talk like that. We can't do only sound or word pronunciation with students or they won't be able to understand normal convervations with native speakers - we have to do pronunciation in sentences. No one says /tu:/ for "to" most of the time; they say it t-schwa; that's important to know.

  • Christ, will people abroad appreciate me more if I exaggerate the shit out of my American accent in light of this guy?

  • Nobody in the states really talks like this guy unless your an automated machine! lol oh brother give me a break at some parts it sounds like he is trying to sing he holds the word so long

  • I really like how this man talks.

He's enthusiastic, but not flagrantly emotional.

His speech is very lucid, and full of color.

  • aniishiin aanishanabe chichs ?

  • i dont know anyone who talks like this....

  • yay 4 auto cue ! :D

  • whats with the subtitles

  • I think Obama will need to watch this video cos he speak English with an Indonesian accent.

  • @HoSayLiaoLah fo real? I haven't noticed. I like his English actually.

  • @boxyboy911 Haha, not all American accents are equal!!! I think the north midland accent (North Dakota, Minnesota, Parts of Wisconsin & Illinois) sounds dopey. I don't mind southern accents from Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and S. Carolina, but people in Mississippi always sound like they've got a mouth full of something when they talk.

  • @danielsimonon Lol Mississipi guys always have their mouth full of something (tabaco) Heheh

Just kidding... I only know 3 or four guys from Mississipi (curious: all of them chew tabaco, maybe that's a coincidence heheh)....

Brazilian kisses to you all, dudes!! I love american accent, indeed!!! :-*

  • @LuStar86 lol. Tobacco, Fried chicken, bbq, cheeseburgers, biscuits, grits & sausage... (Mississippi is the fattest state in the USA)

  • I guess this guy had a pint too much to drink. He "forgot'" tom post the following lessons. nitwit

  • why would you want to speak like us? most of us americans LOVE accents! :D

  • @hinataXkibaforeva101 i love the english accent

  • @hinataXkibaforeva101 have you heard finnish english accent? It sounds kind of annoying:D I would know, I'm finnish myself xD

  • I prefer the American accent,British accent sounds gay to me that is my opinion.

  • @xtrademolition ====why would you say that? that british accents sound "gay"/ moron

  • australian ftw

  • I am asking the same question. Where can I find these lessons he is talking about ?

  • where can i find these "50 lessons"?

  • @boxyboy911 : I am an american....and i think the scotty accent is totally cool

  • every accent has its charm, in my humble opinion of course. However, (not for nothing...) I think North or South Carolina is somewhat painful to me :D

  • why?

  • pft i dont find my american accent FUN to speak or listen to. It sounds bland to me when i compare it to like... scottish or irish ^^

  • irish accents all the way...british sound like they know everything and have a stick up their ass.. and americans sound like they don't know anything but are very happy go lucky. Irish all the way

  • what?! but scottish accent sounds sooo cool

  • Looks like you've been fucked by Americans...

  • what accent would you rather have,American or British vote now!

  • north English accent. very strong

  • American obviously, brittish sucks

  • its ENGLISH so its meant to be pronounced the ENGLISH way fool!

  • @pwettyangel123 Really? Then which English accent is correct? Cockney? Geordie? West Midland? Mancunian? Liverpool? Scouse? York? Others? There's so many accents in England that to say the only proper way to speak the English language is in the English accent is a meaningless statement.

  • @danielsimonon I Think York =)

  • @flukemmvii

British* also there's no such thing as a British accent.

  • @flukemmvii True, true...

  • @sawyerbobby : i grew up here in the usa during "the Beatles" era. We thought they had the coolest accents

  • where we can find two minutes?

    lessons

  • joisey accent... fuggetabout it

  • yeah... i defo do not talk like that.

  • SOUTHERN ACCENT THEREFORE; THE BEST

  • yes it is!!! :)

  • fuck that inbreds, wi accent is the best

  • i dont think so

  • Why do Americans -like the one in this video- often have their mouth wide open like that? They seem to significantly stress their jaw and throat, as well.

  • cuz they use it to speak, they dont speak from the throat, or something like that. I heard it from a co-worker.

  • Thanks for enlighting me. I think it's because they need the jaw vertical movements.

Now compare with this American girl who speaks French. Hardly any jaw movements. She uses mostly her lips and tongue. If she had used her usual jaw movements, she would have sounded American.

  • and so what ... when you speak is to be understanding no ? it's called communication

  • @Forsure3333 : well....the reason we yanks have our mouths wide open like that is because we are greedy and the air is free so we want to suck as much of it in as possible

  • To all these folks who know good pronunciation. Maybe you could listen to mine and tell me how to improve etc. Im Hobot22.

  • Most Americans don't really talk like that lol i am american.

  • it depends on the State ure comin' from.e.g in Ilinois that accent isn't strange

  • why are you talking like these people are cavemen ?

  • This is the generic, non-regional american accent like you'd see on the news, but way worse

  • this video is hilarious. he talks like the viewers no matter what l their native language are retarded.
