The cobra can be useful if he converts to a Frolov's Chakra. Then he could flip around, and gun down a pursuing enemy, or if the pilot's skilled enough, remain that way long enough to aquire a lock and fire a missile.

Actually it can. The F-22 can not only perform it, but do it angled back even more for twice the length of time. Case in point, I think the F-22 pilot was just proving a point. The Cobra maneuver is almost worthless in actual combat. The easier, faster, safer Alpha Maneuver accomplishes the same job just as good.

The F-22 can easily pull it off, it has a turning radius shorter than the length of the aircraft.

That's because of the thrust vectoring I believe. When Pugachev first performed the maneuver in Paris, he had no thrust vectoring.

And by the way I have yet to see an F-22 perform it. I just keep hearing people say it can do it but have not seen it do one just like this. All the videos I find they just do like a very close radius turn but never a Cobra.

It's NOT an Su-27. It's a J-11B, which is a totally different Chinese-designed and Chinese-developed 4.5-gen fighter jet (with Su-27 empty airframe, though)

@wog44 Do you realize all the equipment inside an aircraft? I used to think like that before I worked on fighter aircraft. We have several different kinds of F-16s on our base, they look the same, but are completely different. Airframe has nothing to do with it.

Ugh, not you again. Segregator236, look up on wikipedia in one internet window the J-11. Then in another, look up Su-27. Alt+tab between the two and compare their general characteristics at the bottom of the page. They are the exact same aircraft with a tiny bit of tweaking for Chinese use (versus Russian use).

The aerodynamics should remain the same, but the avionics would vary depending on what mission it performs for the Chinese. Since it's designed as an air to air fighter, my guess is, they didn't change much except the language of the gauges and HUD voice.
