This video gives away too much of the film's story and special effects. Glad I didn't see it before seeing the film in 1985. Also (and I'm not criticising Andy Summers here) it seems a bit strange that this kind of music would be used to promote the film instead of the original orchestral version. I'm just not sure who the target audience was intended to be.
This video was the trailer of 2010: The Year we make contact, here in Mexico, until then I had never heard talk of 2001: A Space Odyssey nor of Arthur C. Clarke, I was hooked on the intant and I begged my father to take me to the theater to see the movie:)
I remember this from ages ago...I saw the video but had nothing to record it with back then...haven't been able to find the recording either...out of print or whatever.
Fabulous! I've had the cassette (! Remember them?) of the 2010 soundtrack since it was released but I've never seen this video before. Thanks a million for posting. Brilliant- I loved it!
Oh, those cool devices that used ferric oxide particles on a thin strip wound on spools? I loved them, as much as they frustrated me. Even better, LP's!! With BIG COVER ART, which doesn't seem to come with MP3's, for some reason.
A few years ago, I showed my LP collection to my daughter, who was about 4 then. She was puzzled for a moment as I tried to describe what they were, then said: "It's like a big CD!" Oh boy, did I feel OLD!!! I failed to explain to her that they had two sides, that was just too wierd a concept for her!!
Oh, man. Well, at least there's time...plus, I've found that a lot of kids (DEFINITELY not ALL) really get into Old Stuff eventually--LP's, 78's, cassettes, calliopes; classic films; old/older music from Andy Summers to Les Paul; , and it's a LOT of fun once they get it, as was the case with me. It's a whole other world to be explored.
wrong chord? Lucky you aren't a musician then, otherwise the entire planet would know the depth of your ignorance. Look up substitution and modulation in your Music for Dumbasses refererence material.
The music is an "arrangement", the chord is "transitional" and you are mental midget whose life must revolve around criticism of things you known absolutely nothing about.
stay great
