You're right- however there's only so much compression a hot dog can take. It's a fine balance between having the whole hot dog come out as fast as possible and just spraying bits of hot dog everywhere.

I think if you use a ramrod and position the hotdog at the back of the chamber will increase the amount of compresion and be able to obtain greater distance... this is just from my experiences with potatoes. you should post a follow-up if it helps.
