  • The Navajo dance so beautifully!!! I just hate the pavement---but the music and dancing keeps my mind off of the pavement part.

Natives should not be hating one another, because that's what the white want--do not give in to the white!!

  • im proud to be Navajo :)

  • The warrior feelings descend within

  • if you want to see a real powwow come up North to the Plains where this originated...

  • @shizahdi101 . . . . for sure, Up northern there are a lot of powwows! small or large. . . its to dance!

  • @shizahdi101 really??? where it "origanated" there are tribes all over the united states. u would not know where pow wows all started. no one will.

  • if you want to see a real powwow come up North to the Plains where this originated...

  • I LOVE the Grass Dancers...but it looks so much better when they are actually dancing on grass.

  • Hey, if yur Native an watching this; show some respect. But if you ain't skin.. suck's to be you.

  • @teeslope1

Why? Nationalism is a stupid ideal, being proud of the race as which you happen to be born? You should be proud of your own achievements, not of random chance.

  • @SSTTEEAALLTTHH Why not? Why not both. Yur telling me you wont stand up for yurself. And i am proud.. every chance i get

  • Comment removed

  • @teeslope1

You clearly said if you're not a native american you suck. So you implied that i am worth less then you because i don't have the same skin color as you. Why don't you judge people by what they achieve? I guess you just think it's easier to use skin as a reference...

  • @teeslope1

I'll stand up for myself, for something meaningful. Not to defend a nationality by which i happen to be born by random chance. This is one planet we all live on and the fact that we felt the need to draw borders and define people on both sides a border as different has caused nothing but problems. I'll stand up to defend what i believe in and what i have worked to achieve or understand, not for something as superficial as the fact i'm white

  • @SSTTEEAALLTTHH Chill man, you B you do your thing. The sun will come up 2morrow for me and you.

  • @teeslope1

Exactly, so why dwell on races?

  • Aho! Nizhoni yee' doo' ahe ehee' shi dine'.

  • im glad im navajo not some white trash person or some other being my our culture will always b here 4 us

  • The women singing is haunting.

  • @livingsocks Ignorant European, show some respect for the traditions of other people.

  • @77AdHominem Do us a fave and tell me how I was disrespectful, ta

  • @livingsocks Those are men stupid.

  • Perfectly well! Navajo is the most surprising, courageous and noble people. I wish them to keep their magic language, their beauty, bravery and wisdom, their spiritual knowledge and traditions.

  • Ooh, I can probably use this in an art project I'm doing. It's a sort of combination of Rebecca Horn, indigenous dancing and pencils on my costume. One thing I need to know is: when you do these dances, is there any set dance you must do, or do you just go with what feels right?

  • will always love and miss the Navajo, miss Az too,Big watz up!! from Tennessee love you guys!

  • there really needs to be bilingual schools for all natives across the U.S. They being the natives of the land truly deserve to preserve their culture, traditions, and language. Don't let these precious languages go.

  • @torofighter I agree, I heard Rosetta Stone made some special programs that were given to schools on the reservations in order to teach childern and help others relearn their traditional languages. There needs to be more priority given to this!

  • awesome ill be learning this soon =D

  • Incredible.

  • Beautiful dance. It's a shame that they did not do this on the earth.

  • what the hell did you mean by that?

  • it doesnt matter what ground they dance on, at least they dance. if you have ever been to the fair there you will see why they dont dance on the ground, i know cause im from there and attend every year.

  • I love this dance

  • i used to jingle dance when i was younger and we danced in the grass and it didnt cost anything now there having them at prospera center and charging 7 dollars

  • dont complain...get up and dance..a better way to utilize your energy

  • what happened to the dirt at the fairgrounds?

  • Where the fuck is the grass???

  • @NATIVECASINO They are patting the pavement down, duh.

  • dayumm dem dancers r gud, wish i wuz dat gud.

  • They need to take those fucking numbers off and get back to the old school pow wow ceremony rituals.

  • yep- and get off the f'ing pavement and back on the earth to dance

  • Thank you! The pow wows i grew up with were on the grass,no numbers on the outfits,no announcers and it was free to get in.

  • ya- donations are ok- but dont charge for a religious gathering

  • They did that shit in sacramento charging $5 dollars a person, with police there.

  • i dont like seeing cops at gatherings- i always think somthings gonna happen.

  • hahahahahahahaha!

  • yea its like wearing shoes it breaks the connection with the vibrations from the earth, im barefoot when i can be, i work in a dojo so im barefoot at work all the time its awsome

  • @oakfox1981 hey i happen to be one of those boys if you want to dis someones culture dis white people i c yo name is playboythuggin wha tthe hell kind of name is that huh dis yo own damn ethinicity not otheres asshole

  • @PLAYBOYTHUGGIN Powwows for navajos is just competition. In no way is it religious. Sacred masked dances and religious ceremonies are performed in the old school way.

  • @PLAYBOYTHUGGIN was it a contest?

  • @PLAYBOYTHUGGIN so true

  • @PLAYBOYTHUGGIN What are those numbers for?

  • @PLAYBOYTHUGGIN fuck pow wows zunis are better we have night dances that are sacret to us and we have masks and when a zuni wants to dance we must go through pain enough pain to make a man cry but u navajos dont have to go through pain u just dance and we have real relegion there no such thing as a homless zuni our people would never let their family member live in the streets most zuni kids can speak zuni but navajos are looseing there langauge and tradition ways

  • @RIPCraigjackson why u got to be hatn on other natives dude it's all the fuckin white mans fault

  • @NdNkid117 because navajos dont care about there langauge or relegion all they care about is the white mans shit thank god im zuni not navajo i can speak my langauage and im 9

  • love the outfits

  • So much energy and power...

  • The only way you can understand anything about OUR NATIVE WAYS is to experience them for yourself. Listen with your heart when our elders tell the stories.

  • man i love grass dancers!!!! make me proud to a native!! id hate ta be a honkey!!! lmao

  • me too

makes me proud to be a native too!!

  • WOW - strong drum beat - highly colored clothes - spinning to the beat - I think the Navajo invented Rock And Roll - they just didn't tell anyone!!!!!!!!

How can this dancing and spirituality be anything but beautiful???? I do not understand a single step - but OBVIOUSLY - they do!!

  • The song isnt Dineh. Its plains culture!

ALL WE WANT AS A COUNTRY AND AS NATIVE AMERICANS IS EQUALITY. SO GIVE IT TO US OR WE SHALL MULTIPLE AND CONQUER ALL!!!!!!

  • Perhaps before taking over the world, you should concentrate on learning how to spell. :) A couple of anger-management classes wouldn't be amiss either.

  • @lancedakotawhitehors You should dance instead of typing in caps on Youtube...more productive :D

  • actually when you dance grass dance it doesn't really hurt your fett cause ur in the hype and all you concentrate on is the music and rythem and beat. my fett never hurt after dancing even with three day powwowws. im always the first one to get there and the last one to leave(except for the officails). i ove dancing so much. im getting ready for the denver march powwow 2009 comeing up in four days. im so excited

  • man i bet that arena is smoking hot

  • i love powwows lol im a fancy dancer!whoo! lol just like them.

  • Beautiful dancers, beautiful drum. What a shame it had to be on some damn sweltering parking lot instead of on the earth where the whole point of the grass dance was intended to be danced. How sad that it has to be this way......

  • Agreed .... a travesty

  • haho. well said, they shuld call it dirt dancing ennit.

Fuck city life i hate it, the air is dirty and theres trash all over the fucking place, and it's going to expend, and expand, and expand untill theres no more fucking room, that's why there on concrete, that's what the government gave them

  • awesome..

  • ~=|:0

  • I've never actually been able to watch my own people dance before ^^ as in the Navajo that is *sigh* ;__; I wish I could dance... but I haven't been taught all of the meanings of pow wows and I don't even know how to make my own regalia. Kinda sucks >.> but I enjoyed watching this ^^ it made me feel happy lol

  • @QueenLucyThe2nd You can still do it, learning as you go along :P

  • @Helimoth lol It's funny how a year ago, I was sad that I couldn't dance! I'm actually in the kitchen now pinning the ribbons onto my shawl =P I'm going dance on May 1st.

  • @QueenLucyThe2nd

  • Comment removed

  • White people are disgusting...

    They all pink and shit.

  • lol i agree

  • lil dude that comes in at 1:52 is about the age i was when i started grass dancing! Good for him, he's tearin it up!

  • NIce video. The only thing I cannot understand is why they are on pavement? Some believe that that "like increases like". The foot on soil is something that must be used to connect us with mother earth. The earth under your foot, the wind in your hair inspires us all ~peace all

  • They are dancing on tarp, which is covering the ground. it always rains during this pow wow and they put tarp down to cut down on the mud.

  • Shalom! My name is David and I am Jewish. I recently watch The Outlaw Jose Wales. There was a young Navaho woman in the movie. I searched here and found this -it is a very good video.

  • Loved that movie!!! She is speaking Navajo too...recent movies have horrible "Navajo" actors who can't speak the language.. :) effort counts tho huh lol

  • holy Shite! Colton is tearin it up!

  • what is a real pow wow then? all natives should unify! STOP BEING A HATER!! im sioux and i love and apreciate all native culture! pow wows unifies us as ONE!

  • When I said the real ones, I meant the ones us Dine use to do a lot long time ago. We just sang, danced, and hung out. Nothing like this video though. That would be a dream if we could all come together. We could be very powerful, but it hasn't happened and maybe never will.

  • Thats right! UNITE!

  • As a Dine, I never really liked this Pow Wow. I think it was adopted just to entertain foreigners. I never went to one or really cared for it. I always thought it looked to flashy and fancy. I like going to the real ones though. Many Navajos and very little foreigners.

  • I think we call that a sqaw dance! lol

go to a pow wow and feel the drums son!! it gets to you and you'll love the way it pounds in your soul! we are all ONE, we just separated in nations...staying alive, staying alive p/s i'm all Dine(the people) too and there are natives in canada who speak our language...cool huh? O an this is the fancy dancers and they are suppose to be flashy and fancy. This is like the main event beside grand entry..thats when I am so proud to be NATIVE!!

  • Hey tone it down with the term squaw for some nations it means a womens... well you know.
