Yorktown was a French victory!! The Revolution would have been lost without the French. Just like in the war of 1812, If Britain wasnt at war Napolean and Rebels in the far east they would have took the U.S back, They took most of the U.S with a few thousand soldiers!
Very good video I wearing Grenadiers uniform but Austrian from age 1798 last time a wear it was on austerlitz 2007 (very good battle 800 soldiers was been there) . VIVAT KAISER FRANZ 1 and grettings from Czech Republic (from 59. infatry regiment Leopold Joseph Maria von Daun later Langois)
A British army garrison surrendering is a very rare event. The Frenchies were destined to pay a VERY heavy price for poking their long noses into a family argument which had nothing to do with them. They would shortly lose their Atlantic fleet, their economic prosperity and eventually their illustrious monarchy. The rest, as they say, is history...
I just bought this DVD. I've tried to watch it but the reenactments are disappointing. I watched both sides hurl volley after volley at each other and there was no evidence of anyone really taking a "hit". And then you'd see the HEssians or some British company retreating. Why? Not one of their people "fell". I know you can't shoot em up fast and furious, want to give the people a show but still...come on!
If I could knock people down with my Jedi powers and make them take hits - I would - but, alas, I edited the battles to make them as dramatic as possible - fighting in the 18th century isn't nearly as fast and brutal as, say, the Civil War, but the scale is cool. Sorry, wish there were more bodies on the field :-)
This is very impressive. I am British and very proud of it. By 1780, that small and noble force that attempted to fight in America was all but broken. You can fight the Americans, but finally, it was America itself that prevailed. The British army fought with great honour and glory during this campaign; any historian worth anything would have to agree. It was just too much. They marched out of Yorktown with their honours and colours intact. God bless em all!
yes and most of the american fighters were firing french weapons that they had received from french fleet and occasionnaly 10 000 french soldiers gave quite a bit of a hand to (guess how many?) 9000 americans fighters...
i say! u yanks certainly know how to do a reenactment! over here most of it is napoloenic and medieval, but i certainly would like to see u lot do this!
The British gave it all they could, but the resolve of the American cause and the devotion of the Kingdoms of France and Spain ultimately won out. This battle is such a great moment in history.
I just served four months as an International Volunteer here. Some good memories, even though I'm saddened that British and Americans can't get along about it- I know it was war but still, we're all friends now, right? I'm British and I got teased a lot by my American cousins!
I wish I could have seen some of the re-enacting though!
The War of 1812? yeah because you guys seized thousands of our soldiers and that really made us mad!!! gosh you can't hold a grudge forever, you shuld've just gotten over the Revolution and left America alone.
even if we won the war,we would never have kept the usa, they would have gone there own way regardless, fighting france, spain, and holland at the same time, our people ,but just wanted a fresh start!!!
England would have left you alone if USA didn't start jumping up and down over Tax and then attacked the Brits to start a war, look at Australia it becomes a Federation.
i am not there, as i live in england. lol. yes you beat us, but only as the frenchies helped you out. Don't forget you started another war with us when we were fighting napoleon. sneaky lol. We beat u though. any way, all friends now, see ya.
My dad was the guy yelling "Fire!" in one of those night shots. I was in the filming too, but I guess none of my stuff made in the preview here. Too bad.
