  • sorry, I'm scarred with anything with "Atom" in a laptop.

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM The key is understanding what the Atom is. Currently, it's not a chip that is ever going to be able to be used in a laptop replacement device. It's really only comfortable in a simple one application at a time scenario.

Get good advice before you decide to purchase any Atom device. We encourage all of our customers to talk to us before buying so that they at least informed of what to expect.

Personally I use a tablet with an Intel Core i7. It's not for everyone though.

  • This thing is $900 with an Aotm....seriously?????? You can get a core i5 tablet for the same price from Asus

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM Sorry, I can't comment on your pricing since you are not in Australia, you need to talk to locals about that. You'll find that this has some features that the asus does not, like TPM, fingeprint reader, rear camera, dock, 8 hour battery life, removable battery etc... however, for me, yes a Core i5 is a much better option! But I'm not everyone and we don't all have the same needs.

  • i think it would be much much better with the new windows 8 installed. really looking forward to it.

  • You were comparing the Q550 with another model kindly let me know that brand/model (I didn't get it).

    Thanks.

  • @jPapa2008 Motion Computing CL900

  • @oztabletpc im trying to decide between the Q550 and the Asus, and what i like about the asus is the wacom feature, does fugitsu q550 also have pressure point touch?

  • @DonnaaPinciotti The Q550 has an N-Trig Active Digitizer that is pressure senstive to 256 levels. Bear in mind though the the Q550 has far less processing power and is not suitable for many pressure aware applications like photoshop. Something like Artrage might be ok though.

  • Great review fella!

You've changed my mind from getting the Acer Iconia w500.

  • @redwhiteblue91 Good move! A windows tablet without a digitizer pen is a missed opportunity.

I went into JB Hi-Fi (an electronics retailer in Australia) the other day to see what tablets they had. I was looking at the Samsung Slate 7 and the salesman said to me, "we have the Acer tablet, it has a stylus and it's cheaper!" I nearly threw it at him... He seriously thought that a capacitive iPad stylus was as good as a Wacom Active Digitizer. That's what you get at retail! No idea.

  • Can you use things like cinema 4d? and Sony vegas?

  • @ZanTaGamingZone If they run on a PC, sure...

  • Can you please review the Samsung series 7 slate as soon as you can get your hand on it. If you already know about it, whats your take on it? Thank you.

  • @B3TILLO Looking forward to it! I have some on order and as soon as they arrive in Australia, I'll review it.

  • i love it ~

  • Any comparison with latest hp slate 2 I just ordered this and hp came out with new slate. So little confused..

  • os there the same with 3G ?

  • @mfa441 This has 3G

  • Wich one of this 2 tablets is less lagy. This one or the Hp slate 500 (atom z670 vs z540). My guess is the hp because of the less batery time. Wich one do u recommend?

  • @davidhdlg Doin't know, but would assume that the HP slate is because it is about 1 year older than this...

  • Update -- after reading jpitts54's tip, I used some epoxy and fastened a little plastic nib (cut from the end of a pen cap) over the power-switch and it works great! Also I've added a *Padlette* to the back + got a new pen off ebay (the one for the HTC Flyer feels less 'slippery')... And I'm Loving my Q550 now!

I was planning to upgrade to the Samsung Series 7 Slate, which has more power. But for now, the Q seems like the best of all worlds.

Definitely recommend! (especially w/ a Padlette)

  • nice pc tablet

  • how small can you write on it?

  • @emoindiechav small as you want... Probably 5mm high is realistic...

  • @oztabletpc thankyou :) I bought one the other day ;) can I ask, do you think i should get a screen protector? I am buying a foilio case.. but I dont want the stylus to scratch the screen.. do you think it will scratch? or will be fine without? thankyou for your advice

  • Very nice review -- but rrodriguez0001 is correct. There's a serious design flaw with the power switch, and it's been noted elsewhere.

I never noticed an issue for the first month or so that I had it -- but now it's a major issue.

at 04:44 notice the way you have to press and slide the power switch with your thumb. This becomes trickier to do after time, especially if some of the gripping 'nibs' fall off. And if you have it in the Folio case, it's a hassle just trying to turn the thing on.

  • @you2449 Call Your local service center for repair.

  • @you2449 I called Customer Support who offered the replace the switch with the same faulty one. I fixed it myself by putting put a very small nub of two part epoxy on it. Works great now.

  • @jpitts54 Good to hear you've fixed it. I haven't had the problem on mine or any of the units that we have sold, so I'm pretty sure its not a universal problem.

  • @jpitts54 Thanks for the Tip ... I can't wait to pick up that 2-part epoxy and give it a try!

  • awesome review!! just a shame its not a pressure sensitive wacom pen. It's annoying that every device is just missing that one thing.

Thanks for the details. It really helps.

  • @SSuperCuriouss Thanks for your comment. BTW, the pen is pressure sensitive, it's just not made by Wacom.

  • @oztabletpc Thanks for the reply mate. Will def check out sketching on this. Sounds like a winner. I mostly sketch and run latest MS Office, so hopefully the processor keeps up.

  • Where is the best place to get one? And how is the 3G?

  • can Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 read hard disk?

  • @waqiyuddin12 Yes, it is a PC.

  • **Warning**: After 2 weeks of using this device the power button appears to be wearing down. I'm having an almost impossible time trying to turn the device on because the button sits kind of inside the case and the button is smoothing out. Also, it's now just about impossible to do so when it's in the Folio Case!

  • @rrodriguez0001 ** Warning ** THIS IS NOT A REPAIR CENTER! It sounds like you have faulty unit and you should send it for repair. Believe it or not repairs are needed on over 5% of all computers! Your first port of call should be Fujitsu, not my video!

  • This is a good review.

  • Does it have 3G ?

  • @princenrj81 Yes, it is an option.

  • @oztabletpc : Great review again, so which one you recommend Q550 or Asus EP121 ?

  • @princenrj81 Depends on what software you want to run and many other factors. The i5 processor in the EP121 is between 4 - 10 times the performance of the Atom Oaktrail in the Q550. Unfortunately that means the EP121 is more power hungry (usually around 3 hours) compared to the Q550 (usually between 6 - 10 hours). Screen quality is similar, but EP121 is much bigger and also has Corning Gorilla Glass. Q550 is more "mobile" since it is much smaller and lighter (~750g vs 1300g). Choice is great!

  • @oztabletpc Fujitsu tablets are well built and high quality, but the utility softwares really lags my TH550 even it's Core i3 based! I want a review about this tablet with clean install Windows 7 please.

  • This would be perfect with AMD Fusion Z-01. Atom is choking with simple pinch/zoom, window resizing, Aero effects etc., plus it won't run Flash content very well. Though I guess that isn't too important for its intended use.

  • @Aaronage1 The problem is the current atom with 3W already trumped with ARM based tablet for power consumption, and AMD Fusion Z-01 is probably more than 3W. It's hard to imagine for any less than 3W processor from AMD in future while intel has 32nm based medfield ready in this late year or H1 2012. x86's having hard time for tablet market... not because performance but power consumption.

  • @clarinervium Personally I think the power consumption thing is a perception issue, but it's not real. I go back to my motion F5v all the time because I want something fast to work on! lt's rarely longer than 3 hours of straight use, and the battery recharges in 90 mins. 8 hours of battery life is great, but i'd rather carry a spare battery in order to have performance at my side!

  • @oztabletpc I agree 8 hours is great for Windows 7 tablet, but I would like to see dual core and 12" screen with same battery life. Small 10" is a trauma and hurting my eyes, perhaps this tablet is not for me.

  • @clarinervium So which device have you considered?
