Editing places in Google Maps

So what happens to the edited information? Will I be the only one to see it, can other users see it, or does Google do something interesting and secret with the new alternate data? Are we going to see some kind of wiki-type map feature?

It doesn't give me the option to "Edit details" on my map. What gives?

yeah I noticed like if you search for your own home, usually the marker is just somewhere along that street....
