Palestinian people were forced from their homes by gunpoint when Israel was formed. Israel was given 55% of historical Palestine, and that quickly jumped to 78%, and after 1967, Israeli text books teach children that ALL of historical Palestine is Israel.
So it's one thing to say that Palestinians recognize that Israel was formed, but another to say it was morrally correct. Just as it is one thing to acknowledge that the Holocaust happened, but another to ask Jews to accept it was justified.
@chrlpolk The thing is that most displacement that happened was during a war started (supposedly) on the Palestinians' behalf by Arab states. Jewish Israelis were displaced too but it just happens that there were fewer of them because there were less of them in total and they won the war. I can't say Israelis weren't glad to have more territory but if there had been no war then there would have been no need for that or for any displacement. Both sides have to accept the past.

@idontwantnoname It depends on how you look at it. If you're a highly religious Christian, the Book of Joel says that all nations are judged (and favored) by how they treat Israel.
If you look at it from strictly politics, a stable Israel provides a balance to the oil-bearing Middle Eastern nations; they are willing to play ball with oil in order to finance their opposition to Israel.
If you look at it from world perspective, Israel's method of incorporation is kind of disturbing.

Hamas is in the Gaza strip, they are the ones that say Israel doesn´t have the right to exist, and sometimes launch rockets without explosives in Isreal. Palestinian people were forced from their homes by gunpoint when Israel was formed. Israel was given 55% of historical Palestine, and that quickly jumped to 78%, and after 1967, Israeli text books teach children that ALL of historical Palestine is Israel.
So it's one thing to say that Palestinians recognize that Israel was formed, but another to say it was morrally correct. Just as it is one thing to acknowledge that the Holocaust happened, but another to ask Jews to accept it was justified.

@chrlpolk The thing is that most displacement that happened was during a war started (supposedly) on the Palestinians' behalf by Arab states. Jewish Israelis were displaced too but it just happens that there were fewer of them because there were less of them in total and they won the war. I can't say Israelis weren't glad to have more territory but if there had been no war then there would have been no need for that or for any displacement. Both sides have to accept the past.

@Saddamuel Well, that's the difference in language - particularly when translated into a term that is more meaningful than we use it. The crucial word is "right".
The Palestinians acknowledge that Israel is formed, and it exists. That is far different than asking them to proclaim that Israel had the "right" to take over any portion of Palestine.
They will never truly believe that Israel had any right to boot them from their homes at gunpoint after the formation of Israel in 1948.

@chrlpolk But do they understand that given the invasion by arab states Israel had to treat Palestinians as their enemy - which in deed or by accident they were. We can't say for sure but had the partition plan just been accepted then there may have been no people booted from their homes on either side - East Jerusalem and the West Bank were depopulated of Jews, their numbers were far less than the Palestinians but only because the Palestinian side had lost the war they 'started'.

Arabs were living in what is now Israel. The Jews and Arabs had not come to an agreement. Both the British Mandate and the UN partition had failed.
So the Jews declared independence. They declared sovereignty over the land. And the Arabs were like, wait a minute, I've lived here all my life, how can you just form a new government, ruling over my house, without my consent or consultation?
That is the dispute.
