  • regardsless of the fact that i or even you exist, at the most basic level our thoughts are just electrons maybe even quarks what ever lol.. but basically there is the seperation between me and you, we're the same yet we're not lol.. I'm more interested in vibration, vibration is everything I know this is boarder line metaphysical but eventually we're all one.

  • The key to making anything useful out of solipsism is understanding levels of certainty or confidence. Just because the only thing I am 100% certain of is that something I think of as me is doubting doesn't mean I find it unlikely that other people exist. Just because I am only 99.999...% sure you exist doesn't mean I should entertain the idea that you don't.

  • Who knows, everybody could be sharing one subconscious mind, so to speak, and apparently numerous conscious minds could be the fruit of such one thing. I believe, personally, that everything is indeed one thing; call it what you will, life, reality, imagination, an organism, a mechanism, a dream, or otherwise. Furthermore, this one thing is constant; nothing is added, nor taken away from it, and the appearance of such a thing is forever rearranging or reorganizing itself. What do you think??

  • i wanna be a figment of your imagination.

  • We are separate but we are connected. Do you think you walk through the world or do you think the world moves around a stationary being. As far as that goes we are all knowing all seeing because we are the eye of god he is all that ever was ever is and ever shall be. He is I I am him we are one. Talk to everyone omit no one and you will see every aspect of yourself and subconscious personified in each individual you meet. Most know everything I know most teach repetition, seemingly of the same

  • @inclinevillagenv Everything, or instead one thing is forever constant, and unchanging. :)

  • I know that I know nothing I don't know that I know everything. So much and so little all so simple to each as individual this frame of mind habitual. Sex is the united touch of two beings. It's whatever you decide to focus on. You are what you eat. Literally and figuratively ... Seek education the more you know the bigger and better and more profound the world can be. Ignorance is bliss awareness too. Just don't get caught in the dogma. I write this as much for me as for you. We are visually s

  • You will feel a lot better when you stop trying to explain it all and just enjoy the ride. I spent 27 years tripping out on it trying to define it. It is and it isn't no way as way yin yang nothing and everything words can't do justice just silence. And knowing

  • so who ever imagination this is is responsable for 9/11?....

  • Solipsism can't be proven or disproven because it can't be tested. I can't say that 5th dimensional lizard people control our perception and because you can't disprove it means i'm right. That would mean this is just arguing the arbitrary. If you don't perceive a bear in the woods doesn't mean it can't kill you. There is an objective reality. In order to prove there is no objective reality, you would need something objective to disprove it, which is a paradoxical contradiction. Just my .02 thx

  • @drumknuckle Well said. I welcome the comments, sir; this all just speculative musing, anyway. I can't say that reality is one thing or the other... I just don't know. Is there an objective reality or is it just "consensual" reality that a group of people happen to agree on?

  • @mentored1 If there wasn't objective components to our reality than science wouldn't exist because people's perceptions would constantly be changing our reality. To say that reality is totally subjective is itself an objective statement; which is another contraction made by solipsists. One of the first statements on the study of logic that I learned was "In nature there are no contractions. Contradictions only exist in the minds of men."

  • @drumknuckle How can you know for sure that people's perceptions aren't constantly affecting reality??

  • @tonyfalca How is your perception separate from reality?

  • @tonyfalca I would highly recommend the video series "An Introduction to Philosophy" by Stefan Molyneux. If we really want to have an objective argument in favor of Solipsism there would have to be a Null Hypothesis. This means there has to be a way to prove and disprove this theory. This term appears frequently on studying things regarding the scientific method. Again, this goes to my point of saying 5th dimension lizards control our minds. There is no way to prove or disprove this.

  • In other words, there is no Null Hypothesis when I say that 5th dimension lizards control our thoughts. No one can prove or disprove my claim. Does this make me right? Absolutely not. Its great we can have crazy ideas, but our crazy ideas have to be tested in objective reality before we can call it truth. So to answer your question, we need a way to test and measure the claim that "people's perception are affecting reality" before we can say its true. We need a Null Hypothesis 4this

  • @drumknuckle Makes total sense. I'm would never attempt to argue for, nor against Solipsism. Frankly, I just wanted to spark an interesting conversation on the subject. Anyhow, with that aside; whether it's truth or not -- that people's perceptions aren't affecting reality -- how can you claim that "if there weren't objective comenents to reality, then science wouldn't exist?" isn't it possible that people could be sharing SIMILAR subjective experiences -----continued

  • @tonyfalca @drumknuckle isn't it possible that people could be sharing SIMILAR subjective experiences, while no objective experience exists? BTW, I appreciate the manner in which you've responded to my previous messages, as most people online tend to feel insulted, and can't seem to carry out a civilized discussion. lol:)

  • @tonyfalca ahhh awesome, same here!

  • @tonyfalca Thanks for sparking a conversation. The reason I made that statement is because science and the scientific method are based on objectivism. I used to entertain the Solipsist like ideas until I found out where this idea came from and who was propagating it. I have friends that are sold into the Solipsist ideologies and they aren’t even aware of it. When it comes to critical thinking I think we should keep it simple by asking “can we prove this in reality?”

  • …and this is why Solipsism is so dangerous, because it makes someone deny reality and therefore TRUTH is unattainable. This is why i have totally rejected this idea even though i used to believe in it. Also, just by using deductive logic we can see the contradictions of Solipsism. Solipsism says that reality is totally subjective; this is a contradiction because in order to prove reality is totally subjective you would have to use something OBJECTIVE to prove this statement :o)

  • @drumknuckle When I'd responded before, I missed your second follow-up comment. I've got some theories of my own that are somewhat similar to the theory of Solipsism, however, I never deny reality, nor the existence of other forms of consciousness. You never know though, all these various forms of consciousness could be the fruit of one subconscious mind, and reality could be, in a sense, objective and subjective. Reality seems to be anything you want it be, really. ----continued

  • @tonyfalca I do know one thing, although this thing called language can reveal a whole lot, at the same time it can conceal just as much. Language seems quite inadequate while attempting to answer such big questions.

  • @drumknuckle If there were no objective reality, how could it ever be disproved, let alone proven??

  • on that matrix bit - imagine we are all plugged in n something happened that killed everyone outside the lab - so we are left plugged in forever - it would be akin to God after creating everything, went for a walk and accidentally fell into a hole he couldnt seem get out off - this program is then left to autonomously run n repeat itself.. we are stuck here while he is stuck there.. loool - ok this is too much ranting, imagination cab dangerous sucks sometimes lol..

  • if solipsism is true then all the 6billion+ people outside my consciousness are really a bunch of good actors - living among amazing actors n actresses (truman show).. 'how can your own mum not be real?' then again, we cannot fully prove that either cos of the separatism we a re bounded by.. just watching you talking about solipsism is itself prove enough that the theory doesn't float, either that or u r a heck of an actor hehe - we cannot be all actors, ergo some or all consciousness exist

  • @sasamuraki Yes sir. Those are all the questions that I've wasted too much time thinking about... Existence seems to be self-evident, doesn't it? So of course I'm not saying that there is no form of existence or consciousness at all, since in order to be a nihilist you first have to accept there is something that doesn't exist. Silly, really, but there's no way to prove or disprove that anything outside of one's own consciousness is real. That's the boggle.

  • @mentored1 That's assuming you're indeed consciousness...

  • @sasamuraki Well, what if you were your mom, so to speak, and your mom were you; I mean, who knows, you could be much more than simply the physical body you seem to identify with and feel so attached to...

  • @tonyfalca Hey Tony, yes that could be right :) The aim of the vid (which i think explains a lot) is to get us to answer that Q: "Who are we?". We don't remember coming here (earth/reality/consciousness), we try to solve it, but in vain, so we sweet under the carpet. We going on and try to solve outside Q, sweeping the main one under the carpet :) "WHO ARE WE?" or YOU

  • @sasamuraki *sweep

  • @sasamuraki That's a good point. For me personally, I think 99.9% of us go our entire lives attempting to understand and define this one thing called ourselves. :)

  • @sasamuraki Well accually in most cases anything outside of your view doesn't exist lol...

  • I'm also a solipsist, but also an agnostic, because how do we know if God exists? I'll keep searching, however, to safeguard this I'm the only thing knowable for certain, I can't know of the reality of anything or anyone else, but you guys, all percieved in my mind, and I created you out of my imagination, are all arguing the case, nothing is simple, there's no such thing as simplicity. It's nice to hear MrChoronzon333, the fool say that things are nice, it's not nice he's calling us holograms.

  • there isn't any Solipsist except me. You can claim to be someone separate than myself.. your just a hologram in my dream world.. but you know it's kind of nice to hear you talking about things I already know and giving names to them. You being me.. us being we.. us being one person and although seemingly different one and the same.. God forgets, God remembers..

  • Beast, I tend to agree with you on that point. I lean towards some idea of collective consciousness or genetic memory (if there is a difference). Of course, we can ask the question regarding external experiences... It depends on the flow of time. Can we dream of things we have not experienced in our individual lives? Or are we limited to one perspective at a time? If we are limited, isn't that solipsism? It's an interesting conversation!

  • I really think in the future, we can either prove or disprove solipsism, which in that I do not believe in. I honestly think that solipsism will be disproved because if there was only the human mind, once we have that, we will see that solipsism can be disproved, without external experiences, dreams cannot happen.

  • I have been very into Ontology for awhile and have been looking for some GOOD books on philosophy (which can be hard to come by). Do you have any recommendations? I know you mentioned "The View From Nowhere" do you have any other recommended readings on Solipsism, Phenomenalism, The Dream Argument, etc.? Or just good philosophy books in general? Thanks! - Matt

  • @asempiresburn Matt, good question. I too have been looking for more stuff about Solipsism. Haven't heard of Phenomenalism, i'll have to look into that. Search amazon for Solipsist.

  • @veXati0n I'll definitely look on Amazon. I recently came across The Oxford Handbook of Metaphysics which can be complex at times, but is very in depth. Phenomenalism is basically a sister of Solipsism " the view that physical objects do not exist as things in themselves but only as perceptual phenomena or sensory stimuli" - Wikipedia.

  • @veXati0n This kind of gives and overview of Phenomenalism: youtube.com/watch?v=1DQ140F32Tw

  • @asempiresburn Go back to the basics: read through Plato, Aristotle, etc. Read the key figures like David Hume, John Locke, and Bertrand Russel. Freud and Nietsche are also excellent reads. I highly recommend Schopenhaur. Start with some of those and you'll find your own path. It starts to feed itself after awhile.

  • I can't say that I know exactly what I'm saying for sure since I'm only 16 but if Solipsism was to be accepted by a person would that make all other 'figments of his/her imagination' exist simply to cause personal experiences eg. love, hate etc.?As a sort of defense mechanism to prevent us from killing ourselves of loneliness?I based half of that off the movie 'The Happening' which pretty much nature flips this switch and makes humans commit suicide instead of wanting to live albeit biologically

  • @MusicNblood Yeh, right. Solipsism is very different to any movie, it's the realism-type philosophy that the self is the only thing that exists, therefore clothes don't, etc etc, and that one has created it all with his/her mind. Good questions, MusicNblood, but you percieving us all, it's better that way, so a solipsist loves a person, it just thinks you don't exist, people are all created in my imagination, you rock star and I'm glad everyone looks attractive, you look the way I want you to :)

  • well said sir

  • @VirtuosoGuy Thanks, dude. Just some musing on things off the beaten path.

  • hehehe hey i wouldnt mind seeing how far that hole does go, mabe i can become a martial arts god an kickass like neo , fly like super man an stop bullets dead in der tracks, that be amazing lol

  • i say in a idea thats higher state of what we percieve as reality sumtin like this would make total sense, but its hard to tell as it is whats what, sumtimes this world does feel like the matrix hehe

  • @myjuliet22 Indeed it does. The Matrix is 1's and 0's right? All human thought is dual: right/left, black/white, good/evil--binary. We can't see that higher state because, to our perception, everything is divided. Maybe our brain in the matrix = binary thought. Somewhere in the distant past, our ancestors were all plugged in and evolved inside the matrix.

Thoughts like that are why I get the chills when Morpheus says he's gonna show me how far down the rabbit hole goes.

  • yea i totally agree wit that, ppl do believe what they wana believe, u can call em crazy but hey if dats der perception whos to say its wrong? the minds a beautiful thing it can make illusions reality

  • that be sumtin we are our own gods, but then again what is a god? anything that i want or assume to be god? like the athiest experiemce says, all hail the mighty pencil hehehe it makes u think

  • @myjuliet22 Thanks for the reply; it certainly does make you think, that's what I'm screaming. :) If god be the sum total of existence, and our own personal consciousness be the limits of existence, then are we god? A mirror of the divine?

What I perceive to be god is god? Demosthenes said "We believe whatever we want to believe."

  • i take the optimistic view on solipsism, but the 'electrical signals' view on conscious experience

  • @TheAngryAmoeba That's an interesting mix. I like the fact that you thought about it. Right on, bro.
