The key to making anything useful out of solipsism is understanding levels of certainty or confidence. Just because the only thing I am 100% certain of is that something I think of as me is doubting doesn't mean I find it unlikely that other people exist. Just because I am only 99.999...% sure you exist doesn't mean I should entertain the idea that you don't.
Who knows, everybody could be sharing one subconscious mind, so to speak, and apparently numerous conscious minds could be the fruit of such one thing. I believe, personally, that everything is indeed one thing; call it what you will, life, reality, imagination, an organism, a mechanism, a dream, or otherwise. Furthermore, this one thing is constant; nothing is added, nor taken away from it, and the appearance of such a thing is forever rearranging or reorganizing itself. What do you think??

Solipsism can't be proven or disproven because it can't be tested. I can't say that 5th dimensional lizard people control our perception and because you can't disprove it means i'm right. That would mean this is just arguing the arbitrary. If you don't perceive a bear in the woods doesn't mean it can't kill you. There is an objective reality. In order to prove there is no objective reality, you would need something objective to disprove it, which is a paradoxical contradiction. Just my .02 thx
@drumknuckle Well said. I welcome the comments, sir; this all just speculative musing, anyway. I can't say that reality is one thing or the other... I just don't know. Is there an objective reality or is it just "consensual" reality that a group of people happen to agree on?
@mentored1 If there wasn't objective components to our reality than science wouldn't exist because people's perceptions would constantly be changing our reality. To say that reality is totally subjective is itself an objective statement; which is another contraction made by solipsists. One of the first statements on the study of logic that I learned was "In nature there are no contractions. Contradictions only exist in the minds of men."
@tonyfalca I would highly recommend the video series "An Introduction to Philosophy" by Stefan Molyneux. If we really want to have an objective argument in favor of Solipsism there would have to be a Null Hypothesis. This means there has to be a way to prove and disprove this theory. This term appears frequently on studying things regarding the scientific method. Again, this goes to my point of saying 5th dimension lizards control our minds. There is no way to prove or disprove this.
In other words, there is no Null Hypothesis when I say that 5th dimension lizards control our thoughts. No one can prove or disprove my claim. Does this make me right? Absolutely not. Its great we can have crazy ideas, but our crazy ideas have to be tested in objective reality before we can call it truth. So to answer your question, we need a way to test and measure the claim that "people's perception are affecting reality" before we can say its true. We need a Null Hypothesis 4this
@drumknuckle Makes total sense. I'm would never attempt to argue for, nor against Solipsism. Frankly, I just wanted to spark an interesting conversation on the subject. Anyhow, with that aside; whether it's truth or not -- that people's perceptions aren't affecting reality -- how can you claim that "if there weren't objective comenents to reality, then science wouldn't exist?" isn't it possible that people could be sharing SIMILAR subjective experiences -----continued
@tonyfalca@drumknuckle isn't it possible that people could be sharing SIMILAR subjective experiences, while no objective experience exists? BTW, I appreciate the manner in which you've responded to my previous messages, as most people online tend to feel insulted, and can't seem to carry out a civilized discussion. lol:)
@tonyfalca Thanks for sparking a conversation. The reason I made that statement is because science and the scientific method are based on objectivism. I used to entertain the Solipsist like ideas until I found out where this idea came from and who was propagating it. I have friends that are sold into the Solipsist ideologies and they aren’t even aware of it. When it comes to critical thinking I think we should keep it simple by asking “can we prove this in reality?”
…and this is why Solipsism is so dangerous, because it makes someone deny reality and therefore TRUTH is unattainable. This is why i have totally rejected this idea even though i used to believe in it. Also, just by using deductive logic we can see the contradictions of Solipsism. Solipsism says that reality is totally subjective; this is a contradiction because in order to prove reality is totally subjective you would have to use something OBJECTIVE to prove this statement :o)
@drumknuckle When I'd responded before, I missed your second follow-up comment. I've got some theories of my own that are somewhat similar to the theory of Solipsism, however, I never deny reality, nor the existence of other forms of consciousness. You never know though, all these various forms of consciousness could be the fruit of one subconscious mind, and reality could be, in a sense, objective and subjective. Reality seems to be anything you want it be, really. ----continued
@tonyfalca I do know one thing, although this thing called language can reveal a whole lot, at the same time it can conceal just as much. Language seems quite inadequate while attempting to answer such big questions.
@drumknuckle You haven't yet answered my question: isn't it possible that people could be sharing a SIMILAR subjective experience, while an objective experience doesn't exist? Anyhow, I believe in things similar to Solipsism. And, sometimes, I enjoy contemplating over things like what is reality, and etc. I'd agree that we should be keeping things simple, totally. So of course I'm not saying that there is no form of existence or consciousness at all, since in order to be a nihilist you first have to accept there is something that doesn't exist. Silly, really, but there's no way to prove or disprove that anything outside of one's own consciousness is real. That's the boggle.
