  • @simpleearthling well fuck you as well you wanker ! go & listen to katy perry or some other shit like that you fuckin sad bastard ! no dont tell youre a radiohead fan i bet

  • I dunno if its just the video, but they need to turn up that main mic, very hard to make out fully what he is singing,,, Very Good though.

  • for the roots to play that song, makes me proud to be Irish!

  • DO YOU UNDERSTAAAAAND THE WORRRRRDS THAT ARE COMIN' OUT OF MY MOUUTH!

  • I like The Roots, but this was a crappy tribute to U2. Not feeling it.

  • @herkeda Then go elsewhere...

  • The expression of Bono says all.. *-*

  • Love the Roots, Black thought is in my Top 5 Rappers... this is a terrible cover though.

  • The Roots are amazing! Paying tribute to a band like U2 is hard but they pulled it off.

  • I love this...the roots paying homage to my fellow country men!!

I mean Black Thought flowing over Bloody Sunday is an eargasm!

    so under rated!

  • skyyyaaaayyyyiiiiieeeee......??? wtf

  • Bono's raging at this.

  • Who cares about 4 minutes of music by a great band for a great band? Chill out you uptight knob ends.

  • I love the Roots but this sounds more like Phil Collins than U2. All love tho :)

  • @PeacemakerShaun1011 how does it sound more like phil collins? its two U2 songs..

  • @Bn1ZFXN4 Nah Kirk's voice make it sound a little like Phil Collins

  • Amazing

  • *can

  • Awesome, cept only bono can't hit the note on "shots ring out in the memphis sky"

  • This is why they are The Legendary Roots Crew.

  • ?uest Love is so good on this performance

  • Lol it's the Jackson 5

  • While all these rich black folks are out having 1000 dollar dinners there is a black kid starving somewhere. A genius oncfe said, "these ghetto children are gods children and I don't se any missionaries around them, so While Jesse Jackson is in the white house having dinner praying over the president, I'm in the hood with my folks, I got to be there cause I can't hang no where else." - 2pac

  • i have been to hundreds of concerts and no one touches the Roots live.... never seen anything like it

  • black thought defines "Breath Control"

  • The head on Bono.

  • Black Thought out sang the lead singer.

  • Yeah I don't believe my ears when it comes to live performances. I know how much can be prerecorded.

  • @WarrenBey Trust me, The Roots put on an AMAZING show, and they're definitely a group you need to see live. Unless you're just not a fan of the genre, it'd be hard to be dissapointed.

  • @ericsaywhaat Absolutely 100% times 1 million! These dudes are the real deal Holyfield! My ninjas til the end of days. Live is the only way they no how to play. Big ups to them and to anyone who knows what The Roots do and are all about.

  • @ericsaywhaat You don't even have to be a fan of these guys. Saw them at Bluesfest this summer, they converted EVERYONE into a Roots fan. They played hard for 1h30 straight, non-stop. And I mean NON-STOP, they just flowed right into the next song, song after song with incredible rightness and musicianship. Top 3 best shows I've seen, Roots are up there easily. Oh yeah, plus Black Thought is an out of this world MC.

  • @WarrenBey Well believe your ears when it comes to The Roots because they are a band that has been playing live for mad years and they know what it's all about when it comes to acoustics and not prerecording anything. Stay away from all that top 40 fake as hell bullshit and start listening to bands like The Roots who bow down to no lable and keep their shit legit when writing, recording and above all PERFORMING.

  • @WarrenBey

The Roots isn't a band that does pre-recording..

  • awww man im speechless, that was amazing!!

  • The Roots are the modern day funk brothers

  • THE ROOTS JUST MOTHERFUCKIN' OUT U2ed U2!!!!

  • @WhatTheFlyinFudge Come on now......

  • amazing black cover thank's

  • roots break the boundaries... excellent performance!!!!!!!!!!

  • rap music is quite simply the best music in the world. if you dont get it, you dont got it.

  • The thing that some people are missing here is that it's called a tribute. It's done out of appreciation for the artist that is being covered. The Roots are doing this out of love and respect, not disrespect which some people seem to forget. Of course it's not the original because only U2 can perform the original. Don't get it twisted folks, this isn't a bad thing.

  • black thought's probably thinking in his head, "keep it gangsta, keep it gangsta nigga" lol this is amazing the roots, that guitarist and don't even get me started with questlove I have to meet him before I die

  • Nas needs this beat just saying

  • The Roots just continue to amaze me.

  • either way you look at it there's just no way to fuck up this song because of it's CLEAR and PRESENT message. first there was god and than he gave us bono :) the new messiah.

  • @kurtleuven please log on to equip.org bono feeds the hungry like jesus god the son commands everyone if you believe jesus died for your sins you live like jesus instead of making lame jokes

  • @soulkiss1001 where and how did i make a joke??? i was just saying what you mean the clear and present message i was talking about is that we need to look after eachother and give away what we have in excess did you reply to the wrong message or something??? i have been a fan since they first started i loved them than and even more now. this rap version however can be called rather lame but hey thats a matter of taste. i think now that michael is dead bono holds the record for most charity.

  • wack

  • The Roots Whoop Ass!!!

  • @lilmunch64 Because of the humanitarian work he has done throughout his career. His efforts includes fighting hunger in Africa, relief in Haiti and other relief campaigns.

  • At the risk of sounding stupid, i'm confused why there's a bono tribute at the NAACP...

  • @lilmunch64 Here's why watch?v=F6P6v4bNxJQ

    Amazing!

  • @lilmunch64

Why not? Bono has been a voice for those without in 3rd world countries and to stop AIDS in Africa.

  • That was pretty sick... the roots take on 2 U2 classics.... uncanny

  • lol!!! Bono is just nodding his head in approval.... haha

  • THE NAACP PAID TRIBUTE TO U2????? WHERE... THE... FUCK... WAS I? THIS IS AWESOME!

  • WAR ! What is it good for ?

  • U2 is my band and this is brilliant !!

  • the roots teaching Bono to play his own song

  • The reason they can cover U2 is cause they are the Legendary Roots Crew. They aren't just a group off the street. The Roots have shown consistently to be one of the best bands ever through their music.

  • What are the chances that the guitarist was playing The Edge's Gibson Explorer?

  • @Suzeism none

  • in the beginning i was starting to question but then when they got to pride, i relaxed a little

  • I like how Questo drummed a little of the 20th Century Fox logo sequence in the beginning. Good stuff!

  • @atothaz lol! I just noticed that. I mean the guy is an epic drummer, he could mix the titanic song in there and it would still sound pretty fuckin cool.

  • so awesome :))

  • fuck too alll...makes my cry this...thanks so much for play u2....this is the best band all world ever u2...portugal miss u2

  • What people who are so closet minded dont understand, is that the Roots are exactly what hip hop was based off of. The shit you hear on the radio isnt hip hop. So people who come here and hate on hip hop with the base of hearing the shit on the radio are so clueless I cant even explain. They represent the meaning of hip hop and show their talent by covering U2 and the War interpolation. Really talented group spreading messages thru songs. Btw Black Thoughts voice is good as hell.

  • i love that the guitar player is using an explorer. it was a tribute to the Edge

  • @RyanWehr I noticed that too!

  • Clearly given to understand that Bono likes the most part the guy who sang ai (Pride in the name of love), since the other was really abominable.

  • year?

  • @11gll 2006

  • @DutchFootball thanks :D

  • What a great combination of music.

  • incleible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @outubrooutubro Hip Hop IS a form of music. Just because you don't enjoy it doesn't make it so. You're not the music police so I don't know why you're complaining.

  • @outubrooutubro go fuck yourself

  • @outubrooutubro this is your problem..........

  • @outubrooutubro well, I think the whole U2 shit is ridiculous and so are their fans. name one : outubrooutubro

the most cultural shit in music industry is rap along with its Hip-Hop culture. to say rap is a crap is fuckin' stupid and only uncultivated people does that. name one: outubrooutubro

so outubrooutubro motherfuckin' homo, educate yourself before you talk!

say hi to your momma, tell her I'll be over later, tell her to save me a plate :D

  • @outubrooutubro I am no hiphop or rap fan either, in fact it's the least favorite of all my music. But I have to admit, this was very well done, very good!

  • @outubrooutubro

It's hip hop not rap you ignorant moron.

  • @outubrooutubro i agree. Rap is not music. Hip Hop Is. Rap is that bastard offshoot that needs to be shot and drugged to the desert and burned to dust.

  • Wow! The Roots played the hell outta that song!!! I love U2 and usually don't like to see them covered but this was HOT!

Then we see Tyra's ol' bobble head at the end. :/

  • never thought Black Thought could sing so well!!!

  • @squeedum I actually saw the entire Roots crew singing african american slave songs during a special about U.S. Slavery on History, They are ALL good singers, hahah

  • I love the fact that Black Thought does a U2 tribute. I honestly listen to both the Roots & U2 the fact that i see things like this gives me hope that music has the power to overcome BULLSHIT racism bigotry ignorance etc. mad RESPECT to Black Thought & Bono. They don't need anyone's approval they will continue doing there thing regardless which is making amazing music. 1love ~ peace.

  • Quality tribute-Great stuff!!

  • the guitar melody repeating in the rap part in the beginning sounds almost exactly like the guitar melody in 'Perfect World' by simple plan

  • @zhangvict1 But since this is a U2 tribute I would have to say I think it is Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2

  • Awsome !!!!!

  • Love the Roots hate Boner

  • @tron202020 Then fuck off and go listen to The Roots

  • @wwe2dragon do us all a favour and go play in the traffic

  • @theXIXth then dont watch/comment the fuckin video!

  • that nigga bono was feelin' it

  • CHRIS TUCKER!!!

  • Captain Kirk AND Black Thought are both amazing singers

  • That was one of the best medley covers I've ever heard!

  • The Roots never comes down. always on top! ROOTS CREW!

  • This is sick as hell. Amazing.

  • Amazing. This performance changed my sense of values.

  • WHOA!

  • WOW. That is all.

  • Wow this was so brilliant!

  • @xxtacy69 RITE!?

  • representing philly here!!

  • i'm a 100% U2 fan and i can say - this is pretty good cover...

  • is it just me or does he murder that guitar solo... =O

  • @ronomgenuff yo he murdered it. :)

  • i'm a big fan of the roots but this song sucks...iGuess thats why i dont listen to U2 lol

  • damn black thought is the only really guy who deserves the abb. 'mc' who can rap....and goddamn is questlove good or what?

  • The only mainstream black band around.

  • Since when does Black Thought sing? He's not bad.

  • @EngGerJap exactly. I never saw him do that before.

  • amazing work by The Roots, huge huge fan of these guys.

  • nice explorer!

  • ?uestlove is so cool

  • @andreestes nah you must be mistaking them for someone else, the roots are a hip hop act. they've been around for a while now.

  • @ericsaywhaat which doesnt prevent the band members from being christian or catholic you know lol

  • @ericsaywhaat almost been formed for 20 years

  • Comment removed

  • @andreestes hell no

  • @andreestes hell no... consciousness band

  • @andreestes The Legendary Roots Crew are far from a Chistian band they say the n word

  • @BAGAKOOS I know Christians who say all sorts of things...

  • @andreestes

There aint no hip hop realer then the roots.. but i must admit this sucks... they shouldnt do u2 songs haha..

you should check them out live at the jazz festival.. they put down such a good show.. but i didnt expect this though

  • @GeoFraX I love this trib video.....

  • @andreestes If I'm not mistaken, the rapper Black Thought belongs to the Nation of Gods and Earths. (A muslim movement) That's taken from Wikipedia though, and it doesn't cite any references for that claim so I can't guarantee that it's true.

  • @andreestes WOW....this guy...dont know the roots

  • @andreestes lol

  • @andreestes fuck no

  • @andreestes lol hell nah

  • @andreestes No, they are a hip-hop act. Good musicians to boot. AND they are Jimmy Fallon's house band. Best example of their abilities: check youtube for Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon "history of rap".

  • U2 = LEGEND

  • The Roots are just good fucking music.

  • WOW! I was blown away. Just wow!

  • This was incredibly awkward

  • THE ROOTS took care of business! Great cover!

  • The Roots: A truly talented Band!

  • not bad

  • This was very meh.

  • @cbracco415

    well boo to you

  • Cool cover, but the Roots didn't make it their own.

  • @615Truth

Rapping to Sunday Bloody Sunday isn't ''making it their own''?

  • @TheGravitationist Ha.... No, they did nto makit their own. U2 is an original band and The Roots didn't invent rap. It's a fine cover, but nothing ground breaking.

  • @615Truth

They didn't make it their own because they they didn't invent rap? O_o There are very few covers that invent a new form of singing. They still added their own touch to the medley, so they made it their own.

  • @TheGravitationist That's your opinion. My opinion is that the Roots are hailed for being a great band, but they're a less talented Meters. PS. They're average.

  • @615Truth

Well I guess you just don't like Hip Hop. Personally, I think their latest album How I Got Over is the best hip hop album of the year so far.

  • @TheGravitationist That's not saying much with the current state of Hip Hop.

  • @615Truth

Actually, there is plenty of great Hip Hop today, but very little of it is mainstream. The majority of the good stuff is underground

  • @615Truth

Also, The Roots and The Meters are two completely different genres so I'm not sure how they're comparable.

  • @TheGravitationist That shows how much you know about music.

  • So you're calling me ignorant? I know that Hip Hop originally came from funk; however there are many kinds of Hip Hop. Rock music originally came from Blues, yet I don't see anyone comparing Buddy Guy and Radiohead. Admittedly, The Roots do have a few funk-inspired tracks, but overall their music is apples to oranges. This; watch?v=vIeqznH5jgs sounds nothing like funk.

  • @TheGravitationist Hip-Hop came from rock. The first drum samples were from John Bonham (he was the drummer in Led Zepplin).

  • @615Truth

I've read sources that state otherwise, but I'll concede that. However, that doesn't negate my point.

  • @615Truth To say that the first drum samples came from John Bonham is woefully inaccurate, "When the Levee Breaks" was a widely used drum break in the 80's, but it was hardly the first break used. Kool Herc, Bambaataa and Flash primarily played funk records.

  • @geofffacey By 'samples' I am reffering to drum kit sounds... Not loops.

  • @615Truth No hip hop came from blues, jazz and funk. Black culture you see. Led Zeppelin also borrowed heavily from blues and r&b. Hip hop and rap's roots go much further back than rock music.

  • @th1nk21 Hip hop came from urban culture not just black culture. The first SOUNDS used in hip hop came from John Bonham's drum kit. Zepplin started in 1968. Hip hop didn’t have a commercial release until "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang in 1979.

  • @615Truth wrong hip hop did not come from rock just because a drum sample is used does not make it a child of rock. Thats irrational

  • @615Truth Wow, If you call the Roots average band, you must listen to some divine music then. The Roots are above average, a brilliant band, but I wanna live in your world, where this band is average does music... because that world is definitely better then ours.

  • @Morfeusm Something tells me you voted for Obama...

  • @615Truth No, because I am not from USA, I live in Europe. But yes, I was fan of Mr. Obama since 2007 :-) I actually predicted his presidency. :-D

  • @615Truth

I agree with Morfeusm. The roots are a great hip hop band. Maybe they were a bit out of their element in this performance, but when they're doing what they're meant to do, they do it great.
