She is wonderful and an incredible voice I met her through a mutual friend Bill, was taking lessons from him and I heard her sing for the first time when she was freshman at UNLV she was in a pactice room singing Ach, Ich Fuhls. Netrebko actually went sharp on the bflat at the end which ruined it. Fleming is the most artistic for this aria, but her tone quality is so breathy at times. Von Stade falls below the pitch and is too bright at times. Karita Mattila and Leontyne Price are the best versions in my opinion.

Yeah, the translation isn´t precise, but I guess the words are used so that it can be sung in English.

I had no honor to hear Leontyne performance so I can't judge who is better, but I have heard other singers to sing this song and to me it was far away form my native czech lenguage. Even the russian woman Ana Netrabko did not prononce worlds as clear as this lady and she is close to my country and sure familiar to lenguage.

I think that the orchestra has contributed the most to this somewhat earthbound interpretation. Very pedestrian in tempo. There's nothing in the orchestra's reading that inspires the young lady to jump out and show her stuff. Great voice, needs accompaniment worthy of her talent, I believe.

I sometimes wish people would honestly look at talent and not jump to their feet for mediocre talent that comes from a minority, no different that I'd expect a quality minority voice to be ignored. This is nicely sung and she has a gorgeous voice, but why do some people have to describe every promising Black soprano as the next Leontyne Price? Where are all the next Maria Callas´? She doesn´t sound remotely like Leontyne Price. (Compare Miss Price´s recording of this aria with Miss Robert´s.) They don´t resemble each other in anyway either. There is perhaps a slight physical resemblence to Martina Arroyo but vocally none at all.

You are ever so right-- I keep asking the question, is an ethnic minority defined by one person's contributions to the scene? I find that the greatest minority singers are the ones who have carved out their own path, regardless of what others did before them.
