  • been flying 500,s for a good while now and never had any problems with static or otherwise (esp model) the gy401 is faultless

  • The static generated by blade disks is a known issue in all rotary aircraft, not just models. However, the TRex 500 did seem to have something of a problem with static - evidenced most commonly in gyro problems. As mikrowave11 suggested, fit the shaft drive and all will be well. I have heard that some modellers fit static wicks, just as full-sized helis do.

  • So what's the fix for this?

  • Guys, have been flying the 500 without a problem for 3 years - jr9393 2.4g. Strongly recommend the shaft drive on the tail and this heli will be a staple of your fleet for years.

  • thanks for this insight. I tested it with my E-MAX and a friend's Raptor 90 - same effect!

However, carbon blades may be more prone to this effect. It looked like that on the E-MAX.

  • :))=))

  • hmm, could that be the problem with my old 7c futaba 35Mhz..

  • Crap, that's not good. I was actually thinking about buying this heli...

  • nvm, I'll jus use some of that Anti-Static Spray

  • The static has no ill adverse effects on the gyro, the problem with static is for us guys running the newer 2.4ghz radio systems. Static can cause the rx the shut down and re-boot causing a lockout.

  • How does it affect the gyro if only static produced is in the TR. It doesn't seem to travel down the boom. Another heli gimmick since none of my helis have this "static" problem.

  • That's what I do.

  • So can we hook our Lipo's up to the static to get some extra flight time??

  • No, this was done to prove that there is static build up in the tail and that it can adversly affect your gyro
