How many steps did you take? It is 4 steps from G down to C! A better way to explain it is by "degrees of the scale" Call the lowest note the 1st degree, then the next note is the 2nd degree, and the interval fro m 1st to 2nd is CALLED "a 2nd"

This is a really useful way of leaning what chords look like and where notes are on the bass cleff. Aren't some intervals called different things when played downwards like that?
