(any ranking in the top 25 is considered a good team) we beat them, beat japan, lost too brazil ( soccer freaks) , drew with cro andd got into the final 16 of the world. after that cup we sat on 44#. Nowadays leading up to South Africa were sitting on #27 and the top asian qualifying team. WAT A ERA!

I thought joining the AFC was mutually beneficial - Australia gets to play regularly and have a known qualifying path for world cup, while Asia gets another good team in its confederation meaning greater respect and potentially places.
