@Elaniago firstly, i never said the K's careers were funny. im not sure why playing karpov is relevant, but even if that happened odds were in favor of fischer. i think it is absurd that you think those two are the best ever. kasparov was better than karpov by 85, he won more tournies, had a higher rating, etc. if you study each era you will see that fischer in his prime was far more dominant that kasparov or karpov in their primes.

The mind games at that level are far greater than anyone who does not experience it first hand can understand. Even if you make a mistake and your opponent misses it, you knowing you made a mistake can lose as well. Knowing you are down just one match can ruin every single decision you make afterwards. This is chess afterall...
