If you only know of Beverly DeAngelo from that ur missing alot,, check out Coal Miners Daughter, and plenty of other films, and she does do her own singing, she is a amazing singer. Most of these actors do their own singing, back then people had talent and could do it all.

it is in fact Milos Forman's interpretation gained through the retrospect of 1979, the year that "Hair", the film was released, back to the sixties when the musical first showed on stage. meaning : the world had moved on and wars, poverty, exploitation and racism are still alive and kicking. it is Forman's addition of an ironic wink to the song's grandiloquent and closing line "our eyes are open"
