The song is not on the Greatest Hits because the band was drugged out and not very please with this point of their careers. They didn't even play this song live for years.
There's been a change Yeah there's been a change of heart I said there's been a change You pushed just a little too far Made it just a little too hard There's been a change of heart I'll get over you, it won't take long I've stood in your gallery I've seen what's hangin' from the walls You were the moon and sun You're just a loaded gun now It gets me down --
I remember seeing Tom Petty play this song on SNL in the early 80's.....just blew me away! I searched YT for that video, but didn't find it. The sound of the muted strum guitar groove had a lasting impact on me. Great tune!
@tongbei1 Yeah, I'm there. that particular take was a bit slower in the count and quite frankly, sounds better. I have it, but on VCR. Need engineer to pull it into dvd format. Someday....
@auteur116 I think Ben would do it well. Have you ever heard Scott doing Roy Orbison's part on Wilbury songs when Tom plays them live? He's pretty great!!! If you like Roy Orbison, a guy who can sing just like him, and wrote over half of Roys songs with him, including Oh Pretty Woman, is Bill Dees. He is still alive. Really great musician and very nice guy. He loves to talk!! LOL!!
"I'll get over you, it won't take long.............I've stood in your gallery, I've seen what's hanging from the wall" I have listened to this song many, many, many times in the last 2 years as I contemplated a divorce. "I fought for you, I fought too hard,,,,,,,,,,To do it all again, babe, it's come too far".
@unclesalty2009 Yeah. I agree. Steve Ferrone is a brilliant drummer, but the beat is a little too straitforward on this song. Stan had the cool breaks before the verse and choruses. it really made the difference on all those early Petty tunes. But what he does on the songs he plays on since joining is great.
@I think that Dave Grohl would have done well with the band. He played with them in '95 I think and Tom offered him the job but he turned it down. Steve is good, and a nice guy, but just not the same groove. :-)
Long after dark is probably my favorite Heartbreakers album also. Yet it never get's mentioned. Change of heart is just one of those songs that you just love. Along with every other Petty song.
sometimes I wonder why this song is not on the greatest hits and then I say to myself, why isn't every petty song on the greatest hits? he should't even have a greatest hits album becuase ALL his songs are genuis.
i love it! always have! it's the last in the Jimmy Iovine produced trilogy of Petty lps. They never sounded quite the same afterwards, but i love all Petty's records. There's been a chay-iy-ayngeeee.....
is that annakim at 2:35?

More than that, isn't it? It's about twice that time. Sad I know. Ferrone is a good drummer, but he doesn't quite compare :(
