@ammarios Actually the US does have other parties other than the GOP and democrats. That being said, you are missing the greater point. Their is serious political divide within the parties that should be noticed. The GOP for example basically has a war between Neocons and libertarians going on. These are very distinct ideologies, it would behoove you to notice.

It is ridiculous to assume that anything that is funded by taxes is "leaning towards communism", a socio-economic system.
Same goes for healthcare in Canada. It is publicly funded, however the mode of delivery is completely private. Publicly-funded does not equal state-run.
@ammarios That's the worst thing about CBC though, it's a failing TV/Radio station that the government keeps afloat, and the reason why it isn't shut down from lack of interest and ratings is because it's privately run. Not arguing with your point, you are right, it's just not that great when you have government pumping/sinking money into something that's not giving you any return besides news and some corny shows.

The CBC is not "failing". Numerous public surveys show that the overwhelming majority of Canadians support the CBC and are opposed to "getting rid of it". They offer some really unique programs and it is a national symbol of Canada. So, for many people, it is "giving us a return".

I'm actually not FOR privately-run crown corps, but in the CBC's case, it makes me wonder whether its a good thing to prevent it from becoming a "current-government" mouthpiece.Basically, CBC is the one unique CrownCorp where I wonder whether the fact that it's privately run is GOOD rather than bad(contrary to my opinion on most publicly-funded stuff)

Once again, I STILL find it HILARIOUS that the U.S Democrats are referred to as "the left" (or, as O'Reilly actually has the nerve to say, the "far-left"). I am a left-wing social-democrat/democratic-socialist civil-libertarian Canadian. If the Democrats ever governed in Canada (or Europe) they'd be considered a right-of-centre party. @ammarios you forgot about free market economic types who also push for social freedom and social authoritarians who also believe that they should centralize and have government control of the economy. Of course the latter can be broken up into people who lean towards facism (bailouts), or people who lean towards communism (crown corporations).

@daobagua Again, I was speaking in the context of the major political partie. Especially in the U.S, a mainly 2-party system, it is either the right-wing corporate capitalist authoritarians, or the less right-wing (or as Fox calls them, the "left") with an emphasis on social freedoms..
I am well-aware of other types of political parties, but they do not exist in the mainstream of the US 2-party system..

@ammarios Actually the US does have other parties other than the GOP and democrats. That being said, you are missing the greater point. Their is serious political divide within the parties that should be noticed. The GOP for example basically has a war between Neocons and libertarians going on. These are very distinct ideologies, it would behoove you to notice.

@daobagua Having a crown corporation does not "lean towards communism". CBC is publicly-funded and a crown-corporation. However, it is only publicly FUNDED, however, it is completely privately RUN.
It is ridiculous to assume that anything that is funded by taxes is "leaning towards communism", a socio-economic system.
Same goes for healthcare in Canada. It is publicly funded, however the mode of delivery is completely private. Publicly-funded does not equal state-run.

@ammarios That's the worst thing about CBC though, it's a failing TV/Radio station that the government keeps afloat, and the reason why it isn't shut down from lack of interest and ratings is because it's privately run. The CBC is not "failing". Numerous public surveys show that the overwhelming majority of Canadians support the CBC and are opposed to "getting rid of it". They offer some really unique programs and it is a national symbol of Canada. So, for many people, it is "giving us a return".

I'm actually not FOR privately-run crown corps, but in the CBC's case, it makes me wonder whether its a good thing to prevent it from becoming a "current-government" mouthpiece.Basically, CBC is the one unique CrownCorp where I wonder whether the fact that it's privately run is GOOD rather than bad(contrary to my opinion on most publicly-funded stuff)
