  • Well it isn't "Linda Goes To Mars" by John Prine but it sure is a keeper, Ron :) Just curious: Looking back now, is there anything different you would do with this song? I'm not saying there is anything that I think should be changed (I like it the way it is) but rather I'm just wondering what you, as the creator and artist, think you might have done differently. Kind regards,

    Bob

  • @1catbob

    Hello Bob,

Actually I re-wote and re-recorded this song many times before I had something that didn't make me wanna puke... One person didn't like "life noir" line as I recall, didn't make sense he said, so maybe I would change that line to be more user friendly..... I also would tone down the strings a lot. They are a bit heavy in places, but to be fair I had just bought a used cello at the time and of course I was going to overdo it. Thanks Bob. -Ron

  • @rhopen Thanks for your thoughts, Ron. I found them interesting and I appreciate you sharing them with me. Best wishes to you! ~Bob

  • This could be on the radio. Its truly an interesting and entertaining song. Not too overdone at all, its got simple parts and some unexpected changes, it all hangs together very well. Listened to this twice before faving it. Great job man!

  • what else I could say? You are just amazing Ron! I got to listen to some of your originals and will be listening one by one.. I never got disappointed... Love them... Yvonne

  • @AnettesPetSongs Hi Anette. I is nice to have you as the number 1000 :o) It has been a very lazy day for me, but that is good. It is nice to be lazy once in a while. From USA, -Ron

  • Great song and sound.

  • this is very cool

I love the perfect blend of original instrumentation and clever lyrics

  • That was amazing. Great arrangement and music production on this one Ron. Many layers mixed perfectly. Beatlesque it is but you make it your own. Another belated congrats on a superior recording...It has to go in the "full production music" list on The Songwriters Collection Channel...more than 5 stars...Kathy

  • Great song - reminding me of Paul Mc Cartney. I love it!

  • Hello and thank you very much. -Ron

  • Wow Ron, very Beatlesk! Not overdone at all, sounds very complete, and professional. Sounds as if it sounded that way in your head, and I'm glad to have heard it.

    Brian

  • Loved the blend of instruments . . . definitely not "overdone". Beautiful!

    Lindsey

  • Man, you have a really great singing voice.

Fantastic. "I hope she wears warm clothes and looks out for asteroids" - that's going down as one of my favorite song lines ever.

    ~Anindya~

  • Wonderful song !

  • Ron very beautiful song! Have tried to enter with the mind the lyric and have gone out cercandol'altra of it extremity of the universe! Ron compliments are a good compopsitore!!555555*

  • Pino, I thank you very much. -Ron

  • Back for another listen, this is really one of the finest originals I've heard here, so fantastic. I especially like the way the instrumentation builds up and fades are the chorus, it's very busy but every part is individual and utterly neccessary, nothing is overdone. You know a piece of art is perfect not when nothing can be added, but when nothing can be taken away ; )

  • Very kind of you Duncanio monfrenio, and that is not a word but you know what I mean :o). Thanks for the Cherry Ghost cover, that is really a great song and your rendition is stellar. -Ronio

  • Splendid, Ron! Beautiful arrangement, melody, and production. You have a real stunner here.

  • Hello Maureen, thank you very kindly. I am glad you are uploading again :o) -Ron

  • Hi ron, I had to come back to your wonderful songs. 5*****

    Best wishes from Germany, Frank

    (you know me;-))))

  • great job my friend....thanks for sharing

  • Well done. The melody is very nice!

  • wow didn't expect this. it's really good :)

  • Yea, sure....she is a bit crazy though, just so you know... haha :o) -Ron

  • Very nice...excellent production! Don't think it's overdone at all...just right. Cello...damn Ron...there doesn't seem to be anything you can't play! Very much enjoyed. And sweet archtop, btw.

  • I have been envious of your archtop since I first saw it, so I had to get me one :o) I like the sound of the archtop a lot. The cello is a student model I found pretty cheap, and it is really easier to play than the fiddle, for me anyway. I will use it as a fretless bass as much as a cello. Thanks Josef. Glad to hear from you again. -Ron

  • The opening Cello line is identical to an opening melody in one of Jim Brickman's songs. I liked it there and I like it here.

Everything about the production on this line is perfect:

"She'll leave tonight, the reluctant star"

The falcetto and the way you can feel the tension building is terrific.

That chorus is amazing. I love the strings on the downbeats and the melody under "time of year".

Ending on the opening is terrific as the verse seems to launch off that part each time.

  • Hi Justin, I will need to go listen to this song by Jim Brickman. Do recall which one?

Thanks for your great observations, Justin. I found a student model cello pretty cheap the other and I was very surprised how easy it was to play. I will use it as a fretless bass as well because I love the jazzy sound of a fretless. Thanks Justin, talk to you later. -Ron

  • not bad at all.

  • Thank you Sliferfan. -Ron

  • Another great song. I love the full sound too. Your such a great writer

  • Hello Haley. I am very glad to hear from you :o) thanks very much. You are such a talented writer yourself so your comments really mean a lot. Talk to you later, -Ron

  • Class tune Ron,came together beautifully.Cheers,Ed

  • Thank you very much Ed. -Ron

  • overdone? don't think so....in fact most of your stuff is simple and understated.

    less goes a long way.

    michael

  • Thank you Michael, and I appreciate you comments because I always worry that I overdo the arrangements sometimes. Thanks, -Ron

  • Just a great song Ron..and hey I love the Cello in this tune *****

    Rocket

  • Hi Rocket. I can't really play that cello properly, but I can make some noise in tune, haha. Thanks and talk to you later, -Ron

    Terry

  • this was awesome !

  • beautiful tune and tasty orchestration Ron.

    5 ***** and faved

  • brilliant song and orchestration Ron. wonderful job all around. sort of Brian Wilson meets Paul McCartney vibe to it.

5 ***** on your way to Mars

  • WHOOT! One of your best my friend!! faved and trying to share:) Just great Ron! *****

  • Hi Jane, and thank you very much for sharing. You are great :o).

    -Ron

  • Cello?

    Cello? lol

Sounds fab! Certainly not overdone. I agree with MartinRaetz on the McCartney thing, I always seem to hear his influence in your originals too, I should really stop that lol.. The way you build your songs, the ebbs and flows and added strings are always very nicely done and your use of language is just beautiful. You're a very talented song writer, Ron.

    Take care

    ~Sonya

  • Yes a cello, haha... you can not only bow that thing but you can thump on it like a bass guitar, and it is a nice piece of furniture too boo :o)... Shuie must get one now, it is only fair :o) Thanks Sonya, and It is funny, but the Beatle I always identified with was George, haha. -Ron

  • No it's not overdone, it's just right. My first idea, as I heard the first tones, was: Paul McCartney. But than it became an original Rhopen-Song. The instrumentation is very well managed and gives this wonderful song a very specific sound. I think it's one of your best. I like it very much (now five time heard). Is the sample tank piano played with midi or by hand?

    Best regards, Martin

  • Thank you very much for your observations, Martin. I appreciate your thoughts. The Sample Tank piano was played by hand in this case. It was a pretty simple little up and down note run so i was not hard to play. I use the Sample Tank sounds with garage band and they are better than average sounds I think. Thanks again. -Ron

  • i adore the cello, it's what i love most about this song. really wonderful lyrics as well.

  • Hi and thanks very much for the nice comment. -Ron

  • Hello Anne,

  • wow, it sounds realy good!

    Grate lyrrics.

the voice matches so well to this song.

    Super!

    five stars *****

    /Maja

  • Hello Maja, thanks and greetings from USA. -Ron

  • Not overdone at all. How can you go wrong with a cello??? and how on earth did you learn to play it so quickly? good god, man, is there anything you can't play? Your new instruments have inspired you to write some great songs lately. I particularly liked your high notes and LOVED the little delicate end that came in at 2:58 :)

  • Oh, I wrote a very witty and clever response back to you Ruby, but it looks like YT sent to purgatory... I can't remember it now, but take my word for it, it was very funny :o) Thanks for you nice comment, and that poor cello has been beat to death the past week :o) -Ron

  • Oh my... what an absolutely beautiful song! Very intricate and filled with beautiful changes.

  • My first reply didn't go through it looks like Suze, but thanks very much again. I really appreciate your comment. -Ron

  • I wanted to hear it again... I love this song from the cello-intro to the guitar-reprise of that theme. What a great song.

    Anette (still impressed)

  • Beautiful melody!

    5*****!

  • Very pretty song and arrangement! 5*****

  • I love your new song Ron. All the instruments fit perfectly together. Very original sound. Bravo!! Endless stars.

  • Thanks very much, Mark. -Ron

  • Good job! Loved it!

    Jeffro :)

  • This is very beautiful, and you have a fantastic range... love those top notes and swirls... incredible, and yes, what an amazing musician you are too!

    :-) This is perfect...

  • Thank you Janet. I see my first reply did not post, so thanks again. -Ron

  • Wow!

From all the songs of yours i heard,i find this most favourable.everything beautiful!especially the little piano bit in the chorus.cracker!

  • Thank you very much Greg. A little piano always brings out nice things :o) -Ron

  • No, not overdone, it sounds realy good. It´s a while since I have heard one of your clips. I´m realy impressed. The melody range is very well adapted to your voice and it´s a good composition. Respect! You also look very concentrated and the smile on your face, as the last cord fades out, shows that you are confident about yourself.

You are lucky to be able to put so much time and effort in your music!! Good luck!

  • Hello, it is nice to hear from you again. I need to get back over to you channel to see what you have been up to lately. Thanks very much for your comments, and yes I always look like I am about to be shot in my vids so I try to lighten it up at the end :o) -Ron

  • Wow, you play a lot of instruments and you're a Beatles fan, Ron. It is great.

    All the best

    Michael

  • Thanks Michael, and I am Beatles fan for sure :o) Thank you. -Ron

  • Great stuff Ron, i loved all the Colours of the different instruments!!

    Sarah x

  • Thanks Sara, and adding color is exactly what I am trying to do with all these instruments. I'll never be very good at any of them but at least can use them for some color. Thanks, -Ron

  • AWESOME !!!!!!!! I love very much !!!!!!

  • Thank you very much, Marie-Alix... merci :o) -Ron

  • Brilliant Ron - love it. That cello knocks me out...

  • Thanks GCT, I like the cello a lot too... I just wish I could play it better :o) -Ron

  • Thank you for posting the video of a great song.

    You are really great.5*****

    I love your song.

  • thank you very much, you are always very kind. -Ron

  • Ron... I listened to this song now so many times. It is terrific.

Where shall I begin? O.k. The lyrics... is there life on Mars? She will only know when she gets there...

What an interesting composition! And all these instruments! Great and surprising melody! And finally: How did you get that high note? Omg :-)

Five stars, favorited and playlisted :-)

Nice greetings from your German friend!

    Anette

  • Thank you very much Anette, I always look forward to your comments on my songs because you are one of the most musical people I know, so your opinion is highly regarded around my house. The high note was poorly executed I am afraid but my heart as in the right place, haha. Thanks from USA, -Ron

  • Thanks for share AnneHeartMusic !

Great voice and beautiful original song !

    Bravo !

    5*****

  • Your instrumentation is perfect, it all meshes together beautifully. The melody is intricate and very complex with notes that I have never been able to hit ;) The song is a winner Ron, been away the past two days with some friends, I hope this comment finds you well!

  • Thank you Duncan. I am very well, and I have really been enjoying your uploads these past weeks. I can't wait for your next one, and we have some more collabs coming up, do we not? :o) -Ron

  • I love the concept of the song and your production and performance are awesome! The cello kind of reminds me the old Harry Chapin music I love so much.

  • Thanks John, and I like those old Harry Chapin songs a lot. -Ron

  • You really put together an excellent song here Ron, I love the Cello (if there is one sound I'll never get tired of, it has got to be that cello rhythm that comes in with "She'll take her warmest clothes), and I was waiting for the piano to come in, and it didn't disappoint! Great story you tell here.

  • Hey Raul,

The cello makes my favorite sound of all the instruments. When you hold it and play a low note it resonates throughout your whole body. I found an affordable student model and I hope I can learn to play better in the future. Thanks for the comments, Raul. -Ron

  • When it's time to leave..Mars is always fine anytime of year..

Love the unspoken of your song, as the words you've sculpted the emotions and meaning of it..

When it's time, Mars is always fine;-)

    Great song mon Ami!

  • PS: Love your smile at the end;-)

A well deserve smile of satisfaction!

  • Thank you very much Boucrate, and I knew you would pick up on the "unspoken" of the song. There is limited space in the typical pop song to say what you want, so you have to so say the most in as few words as possible. Thanks for the confirmation, it is greatly appreciated. -Ron

  • Excellent Ron :)

Good vocal range for martian speak :)The smile at the end was great as well...Regards, Jack

  • Hey there Jack. I tried my hand at a little Lindapinda vocal there, haha... fell way short but it was fun to try anyway :o) -Ron

  • Fantastic job

    *****

  • I agree with chuxtrux about the great 'radio' sound. I love the whole thing . . a great arrangement and an audacious vocal. I seem to hear Nick Drake and Beatles in there, as possible influences. Really nice :]

    5*****

  • Good evening Stu. I am very audacious every time I sing, yes... haha. Yes, the Beatles are an influence, and I did not think of Nick Drake until you mentioned him just now, and that is a nice thought. Thanks, -Ron

  • ron. i like the song and think the arrangement is fine. the mix was good, with the vocal up front in the mix. i know you aren't doing this for commercial gain, none of us are. but this one is something of a paradox. first, the melody and musical arrangement and most of the lyrics have a sharp, radio ready feel to it. the kind of song that can actually be marketed. problem is, some of the lyrics are too intelligently written, "from his life noir". or, i am full of beans as usual, chcuk

  • Thanks Chuck, and that is my favorite line you mention, haha. No, you are not full of beans Chuck... I don't disagree with anything you said. It all comes down to taste and sensibility I guess, neither of which I claim to have to any great degree :o). Thanks, -Ron

  • That was amazing! You didn't over do it at all, the paino and cello did wonders to this song. You're just a master of all instruments aren't you? hehe.

This one feels like a classic, one that will never die. Awesome job Ron.

  • Hey Stew, thanks very much. I have yet to master any instrument, but I can get something out of them with some effort. That is all I am after really, just enough to color the songs. Talk again soon. -Ron

  • ur very talented ! this is a great original post 5/5

  • Hello BeautifulGirlByDana and Ithank you very much. -Ron
