  • That's an interesting proof of concept, butI would prefer to use a GNU/Linux OS I can tweak without doing dangerous shit like that.

  • why dont u just buy a descent pc to run xp on and enjoy the luxuries and tools that it has to offer :)

  • how dit you record that?

  • @meganielz Camstudio, or Hypercam...something like that...

  • @ladygagagerbilDBZfan with hyper can you can not record how windows is installing because hyper cam is not installed yet

  • @meganielz He can record it because he isn't actually using a computer. He's using a VirtualMachine.

  • Gotta love epic technical demos.

  • Oh my god it said on a line of deletion shutdown.exe no more shutdown program unless by: shutdown -a

  • ...Dear freaking goodness! @__@

  • GOODIS CRASH

  • should make xp run faster on my pentium 3 550mhz processor and 128mb of DDR ram, and 15gb hard drive.

  • @AthrunApl Dud u need to buy another PC, or install Win 98

  • @ssredojev I have 3 pc's, that one is just really old and i'm seeing what i could do with it and I might try to upgrade it, it originally had windows 98 on it but nothing really supports that anymore, and installing xp on it was a bitch, but atleast i managed to get xp on it.

  • Awesome you turned Win XP to 95.

  • i was even able to access Start Menu settings!

  • That makes Windows fast! XD

  • Why not install Windows 3.1??? haha

  • I know why on caption buttons there are letters! Windows XP uses Windings (or some other) font for writing these one, so that Windows hasn't got that font, it shows here that it's Arial.

  • @ZVONIMIR111 that is Webdings. Come on, try it! Go to writing program, type 0, 2 and r (lower case) and then mark it. Put to Webdings and you will see!

  • @ZVONIMIR111 It's actually Marlett ... some of Webdings is the same, but try "p" on both. (and of course it's missing, there was only one font file left!)

  • @Acmlm1 Windows would crash with only one font left! He has actually got marlett.ttf and vgaoem.fon

  • And for Windows Vista or Windows seven?

  • this is pretty interesting, and kinda scary :-)

  • You TASed Windows XP? Dear lord...

  • I used this batch file on microsoft virtual pc. Now, I haven't a 25 MB Windows XP. Now, I have a Bluescreen of death!

  • I like how you speeded up the Windows xp setup :)

  • Any chance you could upload the batch files for us to try? :)

  • Just added a link at the end of the description, have fun!

(again, make sure to only run this in a newly installed XP RTM)

  • @Acmlm1

    Thanks very much!

  • @Acmlm1 i just installed FIRST Windows XP RTM without Service Pack, and started bat file, it didn't work.

  • @ZVONIMIR111 It doesn't work anymore for me either, with VMWare 7 (blue screen after the first reboot), but I haven't tried figuring out why yet ... it can't be much, though.

  • @Acmlm1 i worked with Mcrosoft Virtual PC 2007 installed; just at deleting registry: Cannot find the file name specified.

  • @ZVONIMIR111 Ah, that's because the whole thing must be in C:\slimwin, since it uses that path several times (first for calling reg.bat).

  • @Acmlm1 I did it! Thank you for help!

  • Try compressing Ubunu. :D

  • I remember managing to put the original Windows 3.1 (with no network) on a floppy by deleting enough files.

It's all that 386 stuff that makes WfW 3.11 take up so much more space.

  • Oh geez, now you're demoing it via vid?

I knew you had some pretty good slimwins and slimmacs so far. I wasn't sure if you did it with 7 yet or not or the "OEM" copies of them.

  • MacOS: - 7.5.3: 975k - 9.0.4: 9.8MB Windows: - 3.11 ...... 1.8MB, 30 files, 2 folders - 95 ......... 4.1MB, 44, 9 - NT 4 ... 11.4MB, 93, 11 - 2000 .. 23.2MB, 130, 4 - XP ...... 26.5MB, 133, 8 - Vista ... 193MB, 597, 36 - 7 RC1 .184MB, 500, 38 I've only done the batch file for XP, though. (it was OEM too) I also need some way to get delete permissions on the whole registry (or at least the TrustedInstaller restricted parts) to really finish Vista and 7, and hadn't deleted resources either ...
  • Kinda makes me curious if you'd be able to slim down OS X any...

Or hell, even more common Linux distros. There are already minimalistic ones out there, but I'm sure even those could be trimmed down like XP has been here.

  • I make something similar but with nLite and i get about "80-100"mb.

Damn you're good at this stuff...

I prefer VirtualBox because VMware is just too fat...

  • Acmlm, you crazy bastard. XD This is pretty darn cool! And it still functions! Functions a bit worse than Windows 3.1, but hey! It functions!
