I don't know of anybody who has this combination of a great guitar player, a great keyboard player, a great songwriter, a damn great voice and a great entertainer in one person.
This gifted man was way ahead of his time and at the head of his league........he actually created the league and he is really missed!!!! Play it in heaven JGW!!!!
The great Steve Miller wrote this track and JGW not afraid of touching some "white dude" material, run it through the mixer and out it comes as real JGB funkbluesjazz Lastly he died like a proper Music hero on stage...
johnny guitar was the man. sooo good to get to see him on stage at last after wearing out my vinyl over the years. if you doubt his talent listen to 'space guitar' recorded in the early 50's. he wrote the script.
@1KillaSkrilla1 Man, just look all the media that surrounds Elvis!!!! I don't think it's crazy, I think it's logical. Not saying who's better than who.
I was lucky enough to see his show sometime in the late 80s or early 90s, he was great, must have been in his late 50s or early 60s but played and sang his ass off.
man how i miss jgw and his music - and he is sooo sexy in his silver suit - though i think he should have quit performing earlier. in his last years he lost more and more of his voice and even played less and less the guitar on stage - anyway i adore him and truly miss him RIP JGW
His unique combination of showmanship, musicianship, humour, storytelling and interaction with the public was simply unbeaten, everybody loved Johnny because he was completely himself on stage.
The godfather of the spaceguitar.
Hope you have as much peace in heaven as you had here in your live on earth.
@breakaleg82 Yes it was. Back in the late 70's after he came back on tour. Look for the late Johny Guitar Watson Live. You'll find it there. That's a hard album to fine,Good luck!
ok listen to space guitar by johnny guitar watson, that was made about a decade before hendrix and its amazing for a 50's record. for me hendrix is possibly the most overrated guitar player out there. yes he did some azming things for the guitar and was a genius writer but i think guys like jeff beck, frank zappa, etc. are better. hendrix has almost become a myth more then an actual muscian.
I'm with you. I saw him three times and he cut everybody, even James Brown. People couldn't believe what he was doing and the band was the tightest ever. And he was Baaad, dressing room full of ladies, ha ha. We miss you Johnny!
I don't know of ANYONE who can entertain like this guy could. He certainly considered every angle when he played for people, God damn he was fantastic !!!
The intro might be the best (as in, not derivative) part of this rather conventional (as in, we've had this type of riff and boasting lyric since Muddy Waters' days) tune!
WTF This is pure blues....It's good....But this is the blues.
