One Million by Paco Rabanne: Perfume Review / Fragrance Review

You're right, the diametrical variance in opinions on this fragrance is rather interesting. I just watched someone else's [favorable] review and he said that 1 Million is made without any synthetics, with the exception of the leather note. You say you're unable to detect any of the actual notes (except for the leather?). I'm guessing synthetics are often used to create even "truer" smelling notes or to intensify natural fragrance notes?

It lasts long but , as you said it smells cheap. It smells very feminine but in that cheap slutty cheer leader kind of way. Most guys I know who do wear it , wear it to attract girls , who do love it. interestingly enough most of the girls who do like it on my friends are slutty cheer leaders lol.

Two fragrances I hate and that turn my stomach are: One Million and CK One - my brother in law wears One Million and it gets the back of my throat, horrific and someone I used to know wore CK and that one is the sickliest scent ever in the world, I had a gay customer who used to come in the shop and talk for ages, and i would say in my head, please leave, please leave, yuk, yuk, yuk. When he woiuld go, I was like "halleluliah!!"

i have a feeling this one was intended for the mass markets.the first five mins smell fine but after that it goes downhill.many people when buying a perfume don't think to let the perfume settle,but instead make decisions in the first minute of smelling the fragrance.

@sufP What you describe - top-loading a perfume with all of its best qualities to nudge an impulse buy - is indeed a common practice of fragrance houses nowadays. And there's nothing wrong with a perfume smelling fantastic right out of the bottle, of course. The bad part is when it immediately runs out of steam, and smells ordinary/cheap/gone in 20 minutes.

@sufP An ever more alarming trend is that some perfumes are being designed specifically to smell great on the paper strips you get at the store. They're chasing the customers who don't bother to even spray a potential purchase on their skin, who might spritz options on a few different blotters, and then make a snap decision.

A win for the fragrance house, but not so great for the customer when the fragrance falls apart on their skin.

Moral of the story: always try before you buy!

I love both One Million and Lady Million. I got samples of both from Sephora. I love the earthy floral scent of Lady Million because I don't go for most florals.

Rich and dries down to something musky. Not great compared to Serge Lutens or other higher end fragrances.

I found it to get boring after a month of constantly wearing it as one of my earlier fragrances along with my crappy CKs =/

It is a good value scent though.

to me One Million smells like a simpler one-dimensional version of Theorema by Fendi (for women). I loved Theorema, and i don't object to One Million, even if it does smell somewhat cheap. I like it mostly for the fact that it smells gorgeous on my husband, while most other perfumes (and he's got many really good ones) just don't "blend in". It's really weird, but it is a very clear case of "personal chemistry".

Well, my brother got it as a gift and it i thoght that it was a strong spicy scent

but it is not maybe to the base because it is just soft vanilla and cinnamon

to me it is good when it comes to that but i kind of smelled the grapefruit\bloodorange

top with some mint so it is strangley like a cinnabon covered with ornage sause and

A beautifully soft incense is Josef Statkus, and a romantic musk that I love is Annick Goutal Musc Nomade. I could go all day on rose-incense-musk perfumes.

I guess saying to him that you want to exchange it for something else is out of the question? I'd want to buy something else, too! I bought 1 million to be my clubbing scent based on the reviews on youtube because it's loud and sweet, what do you think of 1 million as a clubbing scent? What other fragrances do you recommend as clubbing scent that may do better than 1 million? What season do you categorize 1 million?

@KatiePuckrikSmells the only thing you didn't make mention of was that this fragrance was not available in North American stores for quite awhile but available in Europe. So say what you will about it, their still was some magic to 1 Million in that you could pretty much be the only one smelling that way if you could get your hands on it. And probably why many of the reviewers said great things about it at that time. It's definitely lost a lot of it's magic.
