nah. a rat rod is just a piece of shit body with a big damn engine. well not piece of shit,but usually no paint or primer, 2 seats a dash and nothing else. why care about looks? flashy paint doesnt win races

Actually...a lot of hot/rat rodders use small blocks.

Too few use 454's and RARELY a 572. (only seen 1 w/572)

Well yea I guess a big block weghs significantly more than a small block and back in the day they were supposed to be as light and cheap as possible. these days it seems the shittier it looks the more it costs. plus i guess with only a body tub and not much else I would say that a 300 horse sb would outrun a 500 horse musclecar

They do! They also get significantly better gas mileage.

A 375hp 350, when tuned for daily use, gets near 18-19 highway. My 375hp 396, daily, gets 13-14mpg

And they do outrun high powered cars.

These things, when you open it up....SCARY FAST!
