Much of EastTexas sit upon a salt dome which extends N.East from Laredo to San Antonio to Austin to Waco to DFW to Paris to S. Arkansas to S. half of Mississippi to SW Alabama and all of Louisiana. Called evaporite rock this salt foundation can disolve if exposed to ground water from land movement due to drilling, earthquake, plate techtonics. That is how caves and sink holes are formed.
This is the same one from 2008
