creationism (esp YEC) doesn't even resemble anything close to science, and as such shouldn't be respected when it tries to pass itself off as a science.
also, i was under the impression that this was a fundamentalist christian school. could be wrong though.
Did I make it appear as though Creationism should be equated as science? I don't recall, but if you can point to a certain point, I'll take a look. Indeed, I have greater respect for those who use "God did it" rather than the charlatans babbling "irreducible complexity, information theory, no new information, flagella" BS trying to pass it off as science.
It's not a fundamentalist school, in the YEC sense. There do exist YEC and other creationist books in the library, but they are also alongside (relatively few) evolutionary theory books with solid science.
People do lean right in the school, I'll be honest. I don't know the biology teacher too well, but I have seen some disturbing things on handouts I've seen "missing links", fossils "require different worldviews", etc. I knew last year's better since he taught me. But we'll see.
Yeah, I didnt mean my first comment as an insult to the crowd. I just meant that if he ridiculed creationism he would likely alienate anyone that might actually listen to his point of view.
However, creationism (as a science) should be ridiculed. To do anything else is a disservice to science.
(Also, I realize that you never equated creationism to science. I was strictly trying to elaborate on my first post. I wasnt sure which part you wanted me to elaborate on)
I completely agree. One of the huge temptations in this is to bring the question of God's existence into discussions about this topic, simply because for those either on the fence or accepting of ID, they will choose God over science.
I think you gave creationism too much credibility in this video. (though I do understand the audience you were in front of)
