good cover my friend, always liked this tune on the b-side of cant buy me love. This along with i call your name are just throw away tunes from lennon around that time!! he always had a bad opinion of these tunes after the split?? hard to please was our john!!
5 "dislikes"...what the hell is there to 'dislike"..the video is exactly what it says it is. Some things on YT may be a matter of taste and opinion but not something like this. People can be so pompus when you ask their opinion. I guess Mum and Da didn't let them express themselves/
A genuine thrill to see John's part played up close. I was a 13 year-old kid in 1964 when I bought The Beatles Second Album on Capitol Records and was instantly addicted to this song's guitar arrangement and John's tough as nails lead vocal. Anyone who thinks The Beatles were soft hasn't listened to "You Can't Do That."
@Tjpbeatles92: Suppose so, though I don't have the guitar anymore... If you want, send me your email address and I can send you a scan of what I've got on John's part. Cheers.
In Canada, this song was on the "Long Tall Sally" album. This song, and I Call Your Name were my favorites, off that album. I got this album shortly after seeing the boys on the Ed Sullivan Show.
@chard6788 I don't understand what you mean. The only solo John is playing is during the middle part at 1:38 ... there is no other solo. George is playing the 12 string riffs throught the song.
@chard6788 Be more specific. Please describe in detail exactly what parts you are referencing. Are you saying that Lennon is playing the 12 string riffs instead of George? Lennon played guitar solos on only a few of the early songs... the solo in 'You Can't Do That', one of the solos in 'Long Tall Sally' and the main riff in 'I Feel Fine'. McCartney played guitar solos too: 'Ticket To Ride', 'Another Girl' and 'Taxman'.
@Beatlenut2000: I understand... But hey--$2000 would mean I'd eat about 1G on the sale, and I'd like to make a few hundred if possible. In truth, I'm quite conflicted about selling, but I thought I'd give it a try for the right price. Regards, and thanks for your interest.
@soulagent79: I know it's lame to play along with records... I wish I had more creativity in terms of music; I've got about nil in that department, thought I was able to come up with some fairly decent tunes for the band I was a bass player in back in the late 80's. I'm envious of your original stuff--it's very cool.
@gunsnrosesrocks877: A few things which helped me get better at them were 1) getting my guitar professionally "set-up"--making sure it's action was as low and clean as possible by adjusting the trussrods (if the neck had a bow), lowering the bridge, and sorting out any raised fret issues (most people don't even know what it's like to play a guitar that has been set-up well), and 2) practicing switching between various barre chords slowly, then gradually speed it up.
@spitefulload: Yeah, this little old Skylark tube amp is pretty bitchen. It crackles and takes its sweet time warming up, but then it emits a very nice, true-to-era sound. I'm really glad my wife's uncle abandoned it at her mom's house about 35 years ago; it was cool to uncover it there up in the rafters of her garage...
Very nice

actually they're ALL John's parts, mate. Obviously, he famously plays the solo; one of his few on record.

Great job.

@chard6788 Isn't George playing the riff throughout the song? I think this guy has it right.

@JP5466 I am trying to say george played george played 12- stringed rythym guitar, while john played the main riff on his normal Rickenbacker c64

Great cover and great sound with the Skylark amp & Ric 1996 - sounds authentic with the skylark even though Lennon used an AC50 on the recording
