People who go to this type of show aren't there to "listen" to anything. They are drunks and stoners who are there for the "party". They don't really care about much beyond their own selfish need to be inebriated and have fun.
@flagg6805 It's not just DMB fans. It's just the general "party" lifestyle and immediate gratification demands which pervades pretty much all concert venues anymore. Most people are just too jaded and self-absorbed to sit still for anything subtle.
Yea some fans are getting outrageous.. Every show I go to I always have trouble hearing when Dave tries to talk. It's like as soon as he starts everyone screams for no reason a all.
I was there.too and all the talking was even more frustrating in person...most had no idea what Dave was talking about (plus the acoustics in Staples Center SUCKS!!).... although it was prety tough to go from 60MPH partying and having Dave walk on stage and drop the bombshell.... I must say, dmb DMB played awesome and I have no idea how they did it.
If a good friend of you died, or maybe a very close family member ( as they probably spend more time with the band, than with family, during touring at least ) , would you go out there in front of people and sing an entertain?
I was at this show. I had no idea LeRoi had died that day until Dave told us after the first song. The girl in front of me was screaming NO NO! I started to cry and didn't stop for 20 minutes. The rest of the show I was in a daze. I'm happy I went to the DMB show the next night. It was an amazing concert!
@Malibuheaven1 I was there too. I found out about 10 minutes before they went on. Somebody was looking on their iPhone, and saw the news. The girl behind me started crying, and after about 20 minutes, she and her boyfriend left. I was in tears all night - like you, I was in a complete daze. Second night was much more of a celebration of Roi's life. Peace.
the best part is......these comments are moronic......R.I.P. Leroi..... this video was taken by someone in the audience....So how do you think they were going to drown out all the back ground noise with out a recording studio in the seats around them and doing it legally.....lol Think before you speak
its hard to explain, when you think about it, the crowd seems disrespectful, but even dave matthews said that the best decision they made was playing that show, and people went "oh my god" and then said "hes in a better place playing with some great people" and then yelled as loud as they could for him.
-God has a drummer, a bassist, a guitar, and a singer. He needed a saxaphone player I guess.
@9664963 couldn't agree more...i know its hard to hear sometimes in arena settings, etc...but shut the fuck up....you know that 90% of the people don't even know what dave's saying.
@9664963 if you buy the big whiskey dvd you can see the whole thing. its incredible. heartbreaking, and if you're a true dmb fan i can guarantee you will cry, but its incredible.
@9664963 I went to many shows in my day :) This was one of my complaints (and there weren't many) but was the crowd's ability to STFU at the appropriate time!!!
From what I heard from someone who was there...no one knew what had happened when they walked into the concert and by the end - everyone was in tears. I am not sure that the crowd was being disrespetful I think they were trying to honor Leroi by making sure he could hear how much they loved him. If you have ever been to a DMB concert - you know that the fans LOVE them and would NEVER disrespect Dave or the band. I can't imagine being Dave at that moment. RIP LEROI !!!!!!!!!!
Give them a break, Dave wants people to still have fun. Its not a funeral, its a celebration of his talent. Remember it's still a concert. Although I see what you guys mean about it seeming disrespectful to Groogrux. He had the biggest sense of humor of any of them and would want everyone to still have fun. (half of those people are drunk anyway)
i dont think so. i know Dave well enuff, he always had a hard time loosing loved ones. listen to the songs. we're all from the same town in VA, and it sucks to lose Roi. He was family.
and you do know your idols you have sat down and jammed with dave or had a cup of coffee with your idol whomever that may be shut the hell up dude this video is for Leroi so shut up
Dude you have my utmost respect cause i couldn't agree with you anymore. i went to his concert last week and he was telling a story and all i could hear was the dumb ass drunk people screaming for crash to play. idiots ruin dmb, true dave mattthews band fans LOVE to listen to what dave has to say and could give SHIT less as to when "crash" is going to play. touche DMBGRUX
yes, i agree dude... with such a moment its not that they were bad, but people just dont seem to respect "big moments" so much these days. Leroi was special, so much so i didnt know him personally and the news made me real uneasy. silence while hearing a special story from dave would have been nice...
Well dmb is my favorite band and I believe that leroi was my favorite and when I heard of his death I was shocked.. However atleast we know he is in heaven watching over Dave Matthews band and cheering em on:)
The people saying that the crowd should have been silent...the most acclaim and praise you can give a performer is cheer your ass off. So the crowd cheering, laughing, and making a lot of noise was the only way they could let Dave know they cared. Same with Bernie Mac's funeral. Performers abhor silence.
archer, to lose a love like that is horrid beyond words. i can't even imagine what you felt but to know you've had the strength to move on is too awesome.
I was at this show... one of the most heartbreaking days in my entire life... this story was the most heartwarming thing I think I've ever heard... We miss you Roi...
I was at the show too, row 17 right in front, and you could really see how hard it was for them, im shocked they were able to go on, and i think it was one of their most passionate shows, and ive seen dmb over 25 times live.
I feel foolish finding out just now, with no one really to grieve to. I never saw them live and I now it will never be the same. My best to all who loved Leroi and are now missing a great man and musician.
wow...you know at 31...i must say that is hard to hear about one of you musical heros dying...like the genre just a little older than you... like layne staley... :(
RIP man...DMB will never be the same without u. got to see u more then a few times live and man can u jam out. be sure to burn one down with the big guy for all of us. RIP.
i'm so pissed off at the crowd for cheering and yelling and going "whoooo!" it's highly disrespectful to the man who just died hours ago and i can't even hear what he said
Damn. I just found this out. I dont listen to DMB much anymore, but I used to A LOT, and this saddens me. It's not often I say, but this was a great loss for music. Definitely brought something special to the game.

I am going to pretend I didn't see these previous posts of negativity......
Such sad news about LeRoi Moore's passing, the heaviness in Dave's voice & heart is palpable here. LeRoi's spirit is free though, I am SO thankful he touched our lives through his music!!!!
who the fuck do you think you are getting on youtube and telling a great man who is now dead "fuck him" go to hell, stop trying to get on youtube and start shit, and its none of your business if they smoke and they are allowed to drink, its legal when your over 21 and im positive they all are
come find me and i'll kick your sorry ass you little bitch, when you die i hope people are making fun of you and saying shit to you cause of your worthless life
Yea, and all the assholes who cheered when he said that LeRoi had had too much to drink, you'd think Dave was telling some sort of frat story. Some fuckin' people man.
go spend a little to make sure they can eat or if they need clothes or whatever needs they have, try to meet the need. no matter if it's 100 bucks or just a simple hello...do something random to brighten someone's day..that may be the only spot of sunshine someone may get the whole day.
Roi was definitely one of a kind. I think no matter what our beliefs our...there's always a lesson in every moment to learn. and no i'm not speaking ill of the dead...i never would do that...I think some of the biggest lessons we could learn is to be cool with one another...sacrifice something of importance to you for the gain of another (if you know of someone who may be going hungry tonight...go spend a little to make sure they can eat or if they need clothes or whatever needs they have cont'd
i finally got around to seeing them this summer at the comcast center...so glad i went and got to witness him play...he didn't wear his classic sunglasses. i will miss his music
All I can do cry just about everyday now. It's almost as bad to me as when my Grandpa died. I was worried, but didn't expect to hear about this for another 30 year or so. Why Leroi?
God, I can't watch or listen to DMB anymore without thinking of LeRoi and just plain breaking down in tears, Dave sounds so upset in this... it's just so hard to listen them...
R.I.P. LeRoi Moore, your music shall be remembered in all of your fans hearts.
LeRoi Was a wonderful man and very talented muscian. I am a huge DMB fan..and I know with all of those other DMB fans out there..He will be missed tremendously!! R.I.P my friend
I have to say that when I heard the news of LeRoi, I couldn't cry, only hold my breath in disbelief. LeRoi was an inspiration to musicians everywhere, but moreover, he was an inspriation to people. I found him to be charming, articulate, and quite funny. A DMB fan for a long time now, I can't even imagine the band without him. Heaven's band just got a new saxophonist who's gonna school them all!
go fuck yourself asshole....they continued touring because LeRoi told them to...they only went on stage that night because thats what LeRoi would of wanted
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Are you kidding me. matthews pays tribute by touring without him and playing a show the nights he dies. what a jerk. thats not a tribute. I would be wrecked.
LeRoi's family told DMB that he (LeRoi) and the family wanted the band to keep on playing, because that's what LeRoi lived for. I think it's perfectly okay that DMB played, and that they plan to keep on playing the rest of the tour. After all, they were his friends, and they can find comfort in playing together on stage
I can only imagine what an incredible show it was last night celebrating the life of LeRoi - thank you to those who posted moments of the show that we were not able to witness. I went from Chicago to West Palm to see Dave play this year and up to Alpine as well, it wasn't the same without LeRoi - I am grateful to have seen him and his amazing solos the many years before. RIP LeRoi - you will be missed by all.
And I agree with previous posts - stupid drunk people.
just so you know.... i was at the show. the place was packed before the show started and it was packed until the lights turned back on.... so fuck you... this was the greatest show ever... you have no idea... people cheered non stop for a good 5 minutes for the encore... it was beyond amazing, and a show that dave matthews band will never forget for the rest of their lives....
Yeah the people in the crowd are so fucking stupid. "Roi liked to drink now and then..." then everyone is just like "Whoo! Fuck Yeaah! I like to drink too!"
Stupid crowd. Needs to shut up. Dave is pretty much doing them a favor by even playing that day. I don't know if I could've got on stage and pretended to be happy to be there after news like that.
I'm so broken up over this loss. I can't believe it. I feel empty, this band has been the most important thing to me in the music world for so many years now that I've lost count. I just saw him so healthy in Bristow. I don't get it. I'm so, so incredibly sad.
I agree completely....I have been DEEPLY affected by DMB since their begining...stage left will never be the same..Thank you for sharing your gift with us LeRoi...you will be profoundly missed;.... we will never forget you
i feel ya... when all the lights went up and the band started 'bartender' i just lost it... i could not stop the tears for probably 4 or 5 songs... and then they came back... it's absolutely terrible..
i bet leroi was there that night.. R.I.P.

And for selfish reasons, I hope that somehow some way the creative chemistry of DMB is not altered too much with LeRoi Moore's passing.

go spend a little to make sure they can eat or if they need clothes or whatever needs they have, try to meet the need. no matter if it's 100 bucks or just a simple hello...do something random to brighten someone's day..that may be the only spot of sunshine someone may get the whole day.

All I can do cry just about everyday now. It's almost as bad to me as when my Grandpa died. I was worried, but didn't expect to hear about this for another 30 year or so. Why Leroi?
This is awful. We'll miss him greatly.

God, I can't watch or listen to DMB anymore without thinking of LeRoi and just plain breaking down in tears, Dave sounds so upset in this... it's just so hard to listen them...
R.I.P. LeRoi Moore, your music shall be remembered in all of your fans hearts.

Fuck Yeaah! I like to drink too!"
benjaminbor30 3 years ago 3
