Here is what puzzles me. Madoff had the knowledge to understand how to use long only option straddles on highly volatile stocks. That is betting the stock both ways with calls and puts. I do it with my own money and have done well for many years now. Why couldn't Madoff do it? It's not hard and it was his "pitch" of how he made 10-15% every year, no matter what the market did. It can be done and that's why they believed in him.

What most people do not realize is Madoff did NOT have the largest Ponzi Scheme. If you define a Ponzi Scheme as "paying off past investors with future investors" or "taking Jim's money to pay off Bob", then that TITLE belongs to the US Gov. The whole FEDERAL RESERVE bank, social security, housing market, and paying the interest of the national debt works off a Ponzi Scheme.
Bienes is an asshole and in it up to his ears - I never saw someone look so much like a defensive weasel. On a side note, I think it also says something about Madoff that Bienes' first instinct was to guess that he'd gotten arrested for a sex crime - you don't guess something like that about someone unless you think he's capable of committing such a thing. @ShashiK34 a good documentary, but...
pbs is a bunch of over-paid crooks, with the left wing dopes who work for pbs making tons of money.
and pbs will never ever make a documentary about how usa welfare programs are all crooked.
pbs also a big believer in spanish speaking illegal aliens getting lots of govt freebies.
