  • how does the aggressiveness of the weishi compare to the precision trimmer on a gillette fusion manual?

  • First off, thanks for doing these videos. I am fairly new to wet shaving (I just recieved my Edwin Jagger DE89) and it has been really helpful to have your videos as a reference.

    I have two questions:

Firstly, what are your favourite blades? Which one/s do you use or prefer?

Secondly, what exactly is the difference between shaving cream and shaving soap?

  • i use a cheap razor i got from china for 5 euro and it work perfect,i think aggressive razors are bad cuz they take off skin with the hair on the face

  • ha theres a razer advert to the right of this vid how ironic

  • @TheKlayfish it's not ironic!! the razor advert is there because you've been looking at razors online. whatever site you go on, you will see those products advertised as the internet recognises what it is you're after and interested in watching/viewing.

  • @IAmAlwaysRight11 no cause i havent been looking at razers online

  • Thanks for doing these reviews. I'm new to wet shaving and was deliberating between the very affordable Weishi and the more costly Merkur 38C Barber Pole for my first DE razor. After seeing this video, I'm glad I opted for the Merkur. Keep up the good work.

    -Martin

  • @PineMartyn

I'm glad that I was able to help you choose.

I hope you like your new 38C!

    G.

  • can i just by the weishi razor and buy separate (better?) blades? i'd like to get a cheap, first-time double-edge razor. i don't want to buy vintage and would like to stay away from shavettes.

  • @kumquatsta

    Yes,

This razor will use all standard DE blades.

    G.

  • would you recommend this razor for a total beginner who has only shaved with cartridge razors in the past, geo?

  • @heavencavedin

Sure, this is a nice mild safety razor, a good place to start, and moderately priced as well.

    G.

  • Keep going and you will have no skin left dud.

i use an electric mini shaver i got from eBay for 9 bucks delivered one pass all gone no fucking around.

  • @obieezx11

Glad you found something that works well for you.

My skin is fine and only getting better.

I'll keep doing what works best for me.

    G.

  • i have one as i sent before but is not doing or giving me the closest and its not that aggressive. so what should i buy ??? i have thick beard and sensitive skin.

    many thanks Geo mate :)

  • @baghdadx

This Weishi is definitely on the mild side as far as Safety Razors....

More aggressive would be the Merkur HD, Edwin Jagger DE86, 87, 89, 89L, Muhle R89.

Much more aggressive yet non-adjustable is the Muhle R41.

Even more aggressive and adjustable would be the Merkur Progress or Futur.

The final choice is up to you!

    Geo.

  • i have that :D

  • @baghdadx

    Nice!

    G.

  • @wrangomonger

There's no school like Old Skool!

    Don't forget about Old Spice!

    Geo.

  • Geo did u remove these razors from your stock I didn't see them on the site ?

  • @MrBawston

Currently out of stock on these Mr B.

Hope to get them in soon. Thanks.

    Geo.

  • I think I am going to use my Parker Shavette for the first pass, especially under the nose area is easier with the Shavette, as it can catch those pesky hairs, right under the nose. The other passes I think I am going to use the Weishi. It will be fun.

  • @Kalecommando

    Interesting...

Variety is the spice of life.

Make the best use of what tools you have at your disposal!

    Geo.

  • Got one, since yesterday. Found one here in Hong Kong, at an old man's market booth. Ultra affordable, tried it yesterday for the first time. Very gently razor, needs some pressure and a few passes... it gave me a good close shave. I love this thing!

Now I have the Parker shavette, and this Weishi DE razor... nice!

  • @Kalecommando

Nice, now you can mix it up!

    G.

  • Thanks for the video!

About the pronounciation of Weishi: actually neither of them are correct. :)

In puthonghua (standard Chinese) the pronounciation of "wei" is similar to the English word "way", and "shi"... well, it's a bit hard to find an alogue :) , but let's say "shirt" without the letters "r " and "t". So it's something like "way shi(rt)". Easy-peasy. :))

I hope I could help out some fellow wetshavers! :)

  • @atokombeled

    Got it!

You heard it here first ladies and Gents!

    "WAYSHI" (irt)

    Thanks.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy

Haha, glad I could help, mate! :)

  • hey G is there any after shave you use? or that you would recommend?

  • @TheMagicrob100

George F Trumper's Skin Food in Coral, Limes, or Sandalwood is one of my favorite finishes to a BSS!

Also Proraso Alcohol Free After Shave Balm.

Believe it or not, the oldies are great too: Brut, and Old Spice....

    Geo.

  • @control735

    Thanks Kid!

    G.

  • geo went to the target i noticed edge, and gillete have cream in tubes now and have you ever tried every man jack

  • @kantelier

I'll check that out next time I visit the Big Red Store...

    Haven't tried Every Man Jack.

    Geo.

  • Hi geofatboy,

How is the weight of the razor compared to the Edwin Jagger you have?

I got a Weishi 2003-M made of aluminum it is extremely lightweight and difficult to get a close shave. Anyway, I am using my Edwin Jagger DE89 most of the time. And the MingShi razor you guys talking about is actually the same razor usually bundled with Derby Blades on Amazon, hence it is also referred to as the Derby razor. It gives a better shave than the Weishi I had, probably due to it having more heft to it

  • @willyeo

The Weishi is definitely lighter than the DE89.

I found it to be quite a mild shaver for me.

I prefer my razors to be a bit on the heavier side.

    Geo.

  • Good music!

  • @Jonodude0

    Thanks Jono!

    G.

  • The best part: the quote about your father. Simple and precise. :)

  • @wizzie47

    Thanks Wiz.

    I sure miss him..... :(

    But, he taught me well.

    G.

  • How does this compare to the gillette super speed? They look verry similar.

  • @unplugged10

    Yes,

You have a keen eye my friend.

I would venture a guess and say that they got their hands on one and patterned the Weishi right after it!

    Not exactly, but close...

I like the gold finish, something a bit different!

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • I have a weishi. I find that I can shave with anything on a 3 day growth. The problem is a 1 day growth and I find it to not be close enough for that. It just takes more strokes than it should. My favorite razor is the Feather portable with feather blades. I can shave fast and smooth with regular shaving cream. I am where I was with my old mach III now for $.33 per razor every two weeks!

  • @zigzigerblat

Interesting, you might want to try something that I have tried in the past, might help a bit with your non-adjustable Weishi.

With the blade installed, tighten it down until the silo doors close completely.

Now, back it off just a touch, this will sometimes reveal just a bit more blade and help you improve on the closeness of your shaves.

Kind of like turning it into an adjustable razor.

I can't take credit, as someone else turned me onto it!

    Hope this helps,

    Let me know.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy I would never have thought of that, I'll give it a try. I am still glad I bought it in any case because I only dropped 7 bucks on it and it was a great way to learn DE shaving without lopping anything off.

  • @zigzigerblat

    7 Bucks!

You did good on that one.

I don't smoke but I think a lousy pack of cigarettes cost more than that!

It's a great looking razor and definitely good to start out with if someone's on a limited budget!

    Enjoy the shave!

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy I'm sorry I am a jackass. It was a Ming Shi razor. I confused the two. I only found out because I was looking up my receipt so I could give you the ebay user. Ming Shi is annother less aggressive razor. I think they are the same design as your razor, but I could be wrong.

  • @zigzigerblat

    Hi Zig,

Hmm, Ming Shi, that's one I haven't heard of. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I'm going to check it out and brush up on them!

    Best,

    Geo.

  • man where can i get these kinda blades

  • @barcode477

You can get a blade sampler pack with these blades at shavenation, c o m

The Sampler Pack contains 5 each of Derby, Shark, and Feather blades.

    Best regards,

    Geo.

  • Holy crap you shave fast with a feather blade! brave man.

That weishi looks like a clone of the gillette super speed. If you've used the superspeed, how does it compare?

  • @salazch12

    Thanks Sal,

You're right, it is kind of similar to a Gillette Superspeed.

As a matter of fact, I do own a Superspeed and have a video/demo in the works for it.

Should be up soon. Stay tuned.

    Happy Holidays!

    Geo.

  • You got any Muhles or goodfellas in the collection? Im interested, and have never used any of their products.... Stuck on the Progress (now a Mergress) for many happy years of service. Just wondered, seeings you have like a hundred cut throats in the backround. Maybe do a video on your collection? We all love our shaving porn. lol Thanx for the great videos.

  • @jsj297 Shaving Porn! Hah! Never heard it referred to quite that way before!!! I put in a request for a nice new Muhle from the fat guy with the white beard and red suit... If things go as planned, I'll have a vid out in a week or so! The Progress is a great razor! btw. Actually it's about 30 cutthroats hanging up there! I never thought of doing a video on the collection, I'll add that to the list. Thanks for the request. Happy Holidays! Geo.
  • Hey Geo, just wanted to let you know been shaving with a straight razor about a month now, your vids helped a lot..I bought one of these Weishi razors as a back up,was very unhappy with the shave at first, then i noticed after you tighten up the razor if you back it up like a 1/4 turn it shaves great.. keep up the vids..

  • @excutter1969

    Hey, Thanks excutter!

That sounds like a great tip. Might be just the thing to toughen that razor up a bit...

I'm thinking it might just change the angle of the blade slightly, or reveal a tad more of it, so that it cuts a little better.

Sounds like you've devised a method of adjusting a non-adjustable razor!

A great bit of Fine-Tuning that I will definitely try next time I use that Weeeshiiiiiii !

    Take Care,

    Happy Holidays!

    Geo.

  • Great Videos! Which brush are you using? Also, I'm looking for a first DE razor? Can you tell me if I should get a Merkur HD or Progress or something else? Thanks!

  • @tkto13

That brush is a Rooney Super Badger Brush and It's a fantastic brush!

Served me well for many great shaves, and hopefully many more in the future!

Merkur HD is a great razor if you want something non-adjustable.

The Progress is a fine choice for an adjustable razor.

Also look at the Edwin Jagger, Chrome and Chrome Lined, Ebony, and Ivory Razors, they are great looking and great non-adjustable shavers as well!

Check out the shavenation. c o m website...

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • Did i just watch 13 minutes of you shaving? ...

  • @nutzw1

13 Minutes that changed your life.... Hah!

Just Kidding, I hope at the very least it helps you with your shaves

    Thanks for watching!.

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy yes it does! . and thanks a lor for that...but it just feels awkward ...

  • @bsmyn0708

    Agreed!

I'm in the Midwest, Chi Town area and we get the same!

One of my old buds puts it like this: (in his heavy PR accent) If you don't like the weather in Chicago, smoke a cigarette, it will change!

Not too many other places you can go from 60 to 30 degrees in the same day!!!

It's been great so far though....

The weather gods have been shining their good fortunes upon us!

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

Is your brother in the military service, or is he just chillin' in Lebanon and Iraq?

All you need to tell him is Merkur, or Edwin Jagger, and you probably can't go wrong if he can lay his mitts on any of those razors!!!

    Best,

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

Better pick up a second job shoveling snow in Brooklyn!!!

Save your euros up for a nice Edwin Jagger or Merkur Razor! LOL !

    Good luck,

    Geo.

  • Wow nice Razor. Probably gold-plated! It has a nice look.

  • @dan1979geboren

    Ha!

It's a shiny, gold colored toy!!!!

    Boys like shiny toys, right?

Definitely plated but looks good all the same...

    Best!

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

    True That!

I'm hoping the Obamanomics Recovery Kicks in Soon!! LOL!

  • Hi Geo

I love the fact that your response to my RAD actually encourages me to expand my collection! LOL!!

I was struck by a recent comment on Mantic's blog from Diane Woods about how some (but not all!) modern products can actually improve the shaving experience - she quoted shave oil specifically - and was wondering if you had ever used oil? I've started to use it on my third pass and it works for me. But, as they say, "YMMV" (you know, it took me months to find out what that meant!)

    David

  • @itsamathematicsthing

    Yo David,

    Everything in moderation..... Not!!!

I can't seem to get enough cool razors.....

Funny that you mention the shave oil. A couple weeks ago someone sent me a couple of bottles of a new shaving product to demo/test out. It is an oil made from Greek Olives. I'm going to try it out soon and I'll let you know how it works! If it's worthwhile, I'll put up on YT....

Ha!, Don't feel bad, I looked it up to find out the meaning...."YMMV".....

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy my father never taught me how to shave,he was only good at yelling.and worrying about bills and and yelling at my mom.come to think of it my father was a worthless criticizing wise guy piece of shit that did not know how to talk or act.and taught me nothing in life

  • @5tonyvvvv

    Tony,

Ouch, those are some scathing remarks!!!

Keep in mind, sometimes it's a difficult task rearing children...

Worrying about where the next Benjamin comes from and putting food on the table can be overwhelming at times. All couples argue occasionally.. The bad times make the good times even better!

If you're not happy with the way the old man did things, make it your goal to do it better than he did!

You gotta pay the cost to be the boss bro!

    Righteous!

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

I guess the prices are increasing because safety and straight razors are quickly gaining in popularity!!! Yes, History Repeats Itself Again!

Gents might be tired of the 3-4-5 bladed cartridge, and are interested in trying something else.

You know, Razors, shaving cream, blades, and brushes, all make great holiday gifts!!!!

    Hint, Hint!!!!

Place the Razor at number one on your list...

    Good Luck,

    Geo.

  • Hi Geo

    Greetings from the UK.

Developing serious RAD! Just bought a Slim to go with the Fatboy and Slant purchased this month. Obviously I blame you!

Been shaving with the Fatboy over the last few weeks and it is astonishingly good.

I've also convinced my nephew that he really should try DE shaving and I'm looking for a suitable first razor for him and was wondering if you had any thoughts?

Of to London at the weekend. Trumpers, Taylors and Truefitts await!

    Take care

    David

  • @itsamathematicsthing

    Hi David,

    Sorry for the delayed reply.

Tell your wife to give you a shot because you've been bitten!!!!

If there is a cure for RAD, I haven't found it yet!

There are two things that really make me smile: Shiny Razors (and all that that entails) and Shiny Motorcycles!!!

While visiting your new stomping grounds, if you happen to venture upon an Edwin Jagger DE 89 Chrome Razor, it would be just what the Dr. ordered for your nephew, while you're at it, buy 2. Ha!

    Be well,

    Geo.

  • Hello

Is it possible for you to show a video, where you shave with a Edwin Jagger DE89L chrome plated safety razor?

I have just bought one. :-)

    Greetings from DK.

  • @MrAhmet30

Yes, I can and gladly will!!!

No arm twisting required on that request!!!

    Thanks, and Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Great proverb Geo! My wife reckons the Chinese must have written it with me in mind!

I'll be watching your upcoming Slant Bar video with keen interest and then will probably take the plunge and try to shave with mine. I'll keep you updated with how it goes.

    Take care, oh wise one.

  • @itsamathematicsthing

    Oh wise one... lol

Another Chinese proverb, spoken by my father when we were kids...although probably not Chinese and I guess not really a proverb either...

On those oh so rare times when we fouled up...

"What, were you hiding behind the door when God passed out brains"

Another one of those expressions that I inherited and can't help but utter myself at times...

Slant Bar vid is in production!

    Be Well,

    Geo.

  • I'm 24 yes old and I have never used a razor. I have been using my electric shaving machine. What I have noticed is that once in a while I run over my mustach and end up having a small bald spot.

If I shave with a razor just once are there benefits????????!?!?????????????

  • @adamrocks2006

I tried shaving with an electric razor a long time ago and it resulted in numerous ingrown hairs.... especially on my neck area.

Many gents have replied that their ingrown hairs disappeared within only one week of safety or straight razor shaving.

    Big benefit number One!!!

I could elaborate further, but there's not enough room on this page... lol

    Best regards,

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

Like I said, it's kind of a Catch 22 situation...

I'm guessing your shaves will be much more satisfying if you upgrade to a nice Merkur, Edwin Jagger, or other quality razor.

Look at the bright side, you'll be saving money on nick sealers and styptic pencils!!!

    Good Luck,

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

If you've been using a lightweight razor & experiencing some irritation, it's probably because you need to apply more pressure to get it to shave better, at the same time, by applying more pressure, you may be more prone to razor burn rash or nicks....Kind of a "Catch 22" situation.

I recommend that you save up (or holiday/birthday gift) and invest in a more substantial Safety Razor.

It will last a lifetime and just the weight of the razor is all you need when shaving.

    Geo.

  • That's great news! I'll really look forward to watching the Slant Bar demonstration.

Incidentally, whilst trying to explain myself over the comment about watching men shave, I mentioned that I only actually watched two men shave (yourself and Mantic59). Unfortunately that made it sound as though I was watching you shave each other and so just made things worse! I then rapidly changed the subject.

    Keep up the great work

    David

  • @itsamathematicsthing

    LOL!!! David,

One of my favorite Chinese Proverbs reads as follows:

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool,

than to speak and remove all doubt"...

I've been in situations like that before and sometimes the more you try to explain your way out of something, the deeper the hole your digging for yourself gets!!!

Changing the subject was a smart move at the moment!

Oh Wait, I thought this a shaving channel!!! Ha HA!!! I digress...

    Be Well,

    Geo.

  • (post continued)...

P.S. I was trying to explain to my wife and nephew over the weekend my new found fascination with your channel and made a comment that I was "becoming a bit obsessed with watching men shave on the internet!" Whilst they understood what I meant, I did get some very strange looks from the people stood next to me in the bar! Made me laugh, anyway.

    Keep up the great work.

    Kind regards

    David

  • @itsamathematicsthing

    David,

Ha Ha!!! I'm on the floor laughing right now because I'm picturing that scenario play out in my mind....

I'm imagining the other bar patrons moving away from you to the left and right at the bar after hearing and contemplating your comment!!!

    Ha Ha! Don't feel bad...

I'm the guy in the bathroom, shirtless, putting it all out there for the world to see!!!

All in the quest for the Perfect Shave (or the Holy Grail as some might also call it)!

    Take Care,

    Geo

  • Hi Geo

Thanks for the reply. I would echo the request for a video about the Slant Bar. I purchased one about 3 weeks ago and have yet to use it! A fearsome looking instrument and would welcome some tips from an experienced user before having a go myself.

  • @itsamathematicsthing

    David, OK it's on!!!

Just give me a few days to produce the necessary stubble that is only worthy of being tamed by that fearsome looking Slant Bar!!!

It takes more than just a couple of days growth to show what that beast can really do!!! LOL...

I'm even a bit excited to show what the agressive Slant Bar can do as opposed to the milder Weishi Razor.

    All the Best,

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

It sounds like you're making progress w/ your shaves!

Hopefully you are practicing the folowing:

Good Face Prep/Hot Water/Good Cream/Badger Brush/ Sharp Blade (try a Feather) Quality Razor, not a cheap plastic one. Don't apply too much pressure to your face, just the weight of the Razor and proper angle (approx 30 degrees)

Try not going against the grain every shave. Give your face a break and time to recuperate from previous shaves.

    Hope this Helps!

    Geo

  • I really like your videos, they're fresh, very objetive...very good, but once i've seen this video using a mild razor i just think of watching a vid of you using a very agressive razor like the slant bar..what do you think?

  • @kiokoidrillow

Thanks for the Props on the Videos!

Yes, that sounds like a great idea, and something I haven't shown yet. I'll get to work on that. I'll try to get something out for you in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • @bsmyn0708

    3-4-5 Whatever it takes Bro!!!

As long as you're happy with your shave, that's all that counts!

The Merkur Progress is a great Razor. It gives you the ability to adjust it accordingly, depending on your beard growth and how agressive you want to be with your shave.

For instance, you might perform the first pass with a higher setting, and work your way down to a lower setting, on the following passes, or vice versa...

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • I have the exact Weishi razor as you demo in this video. It is a great razor, but I have to spend a lot of time on my neck area with this one, it takes me min 4 passes with it to get everything smooth. In the back ground you have a ton of Straight razors, wow!

    I am in awe.......

Thank you so much for all your videos, I have learned so much from you!

    /Ranger

  • @90RangerXLT

    Thanks Ranger!

It's a nice razor and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it to somebody who is just getting into the sport. lol...

Especially suited for gents with a lighter beard.

Or if you have time on your hands and don't mind performing a few extra passes, thats OK too!

I definitely got bit by the RAD (razor aquisition disorder) bug...

Some of my straights are real nice and some need a bit of work...

    A good project for a snowy/rainy day.

    Be well,

    Geo.

  • Great vid dude!

I've been using an HD for probably about a month or 2 now and just ordered a super badger shaving brush (currently using an Omega boar) hoping it will help with keeping lather on the brush, been having trouble with losing lather between passes. I might not be loading the brush properly not quite sure lol but I'm enjoying learning anyway. Keep up the vids!

  • @vqsnapp

Check out my videos Best Lather & Face Prep & apply those techniques...

I promise you that you will be much happier with the Badger Brush.

I soak my brush in a granite cup of hot water for a couple of minutes while I mix my lather.. When I remove the brush from the cup, the water level has dropped noticeably... this means that the warm H20 is going to wind up on your face rather than the floor...

That extra hydration goes a long way as far as building your lather!

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Another fantastic video Geo! Thanks alot.

I've really just found your videos after having watched those produced by Mantic59 (that are also excellent!).

I've only been DE shaving for about 6 months and my shaver of choice is a Merkur Progress. I'm looking to purchase a vintage Gillette and was wondering how you would rate the Fatboy compared to the Progress?

P.S. Love your " Clear off the runways" comment!

  • @itsamathematicsthing

I'm obviously very fond of my 1959 Fatboy. Its's a great shaver. Opinions vary of course, but I feel that the Merkur Progress is probably more agressive than the Fatboy. Depending on where you set it. If the settings could be equal, I would give the agressiveness trophy to the Merkur Progress!

Thanks for the props on the "runways" slogan. it's just something I used to say to myself in my head when I started shaving, then I began saying it out loud...

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • For those who say the Weishi is too gentle, try it with a high-performance blade like a Feather or an Iridium. The Weishi will "tame" these blades well and give you a very good shave!

  • @mantic59

    Thanks for the tip mantic!

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Nice shave Geo! I read the steps and are very helpful! Kind thoughts !

    Mike

  • @torquefactory

    Thanks Mike,

I'm happy the vids are helping.

Be on the lookout for more in the future!

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • I have a WEISHI as well (I have been DE shaving for a little over a month with it). I am glad I am not the only one noticing the thing with the left behind shaving cream. I thought perhaps there was something wrong with my method. I usually do a three pass shave with it, but if I want BBS I have to do a fourth using the buffing method. I have since ordered a Merkur HD and a Best Badger brush (I was using a cheap Wilkinson Sword boar). I am guessing I am in for an improved shaving experience?

    Oh Yes my Friend!!!!

You will notice a marked difference when you shave with the HD.

Chances are, you'll be saving time by not having to complete that 4th buffing pass.

The Best Badger brush will also absorb water and help hydrate your face, most likely an improvement in that department as well.

Add in some nice shaving cream and proper face prep and get ready for the Best Shave Ever!

Almost as good as a Frosty Mug!

I think you will be a Happy Camper!

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy You were 100% correct. I was amazed with the shave I got from the HD, and in fact, could have stopped after one pass if I wanted to (It is so much fun shaving this way, I kept going though)!

I also found the Best Badger brush helped a lot with building a better lather. I had way more lather than I needed in about 30 seconds.

  • @PeiHomeBrewer

    Nice!!!

Sound like you found the proper combination of items to achieve happiness with your DE shaves!

    Glad I could help!

    Keep up the good work.

Have a Great Shave and Have a Great Day!!!

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • It's actually a merkur "foosher" haha. I thought it was "fewchur" also. Darn Futur spelling. Great video.

  • @Xezmer

    Dang!!!

You mean I mispronounced another one???

Looks like I need to brush up on my German.

I did pretty good on my Boker Edelweiss, "aaduhlvice" pronunciation in my other video, though as I was told.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Is there another pronunciation for the Merkur "Vision" as well?

We could give it a French twist and call it a "veesyone" LOL...

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • great video. i have a merkur long handle and was wondering where you would rank the long handle in terms of agressiveness of some of the other razors you have used?

thanks and have a great day

  • @scooterman84

    Thanks scooterman,

Truth be told, I've had the Merkur Long Handle Open-Tooth Razor but have not used it yet.

I'll try it out this week and let you know.

    Hope all is well,

    Geo.

  • (Cont....) It looks like your Edwin Jagger has that same head, though it's a good looking razor. I'm anxious to try the Merkur bakelite razor...it seems to have a similar head as the Slant, but without the 'twist' to it.

  • @greeterboy

I recently shaved with the Edwin Jagger for the first time, (video will be out soon) and all I could say was WOW! What a great shave I got out of it!

Plus, a stunning chrome finish to boot.

If you get the Bakelite, let me know how it works out for you.

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Well done Geo! Yeah, definitely seems great for someone new to DE shaving or for someone who suffers from sensitive skin. Personally, for beginners, I would recommend the Weishi or a vintage Gillette, as their first DE razor. The Merkur HD was my first and it almost turned me off of DE shaving. The Gillette SS is what saved me. I never did like the symmetry of the Merkur safety bar (with the exception of the Progress and Slant).

  • @greeterboy

Thanks greeterboy, and thanks for the challenge request as well...

I agree, I would recommend the Weishi to a beginner, or someone who has a light beard. This razor would meet their needs perfectly and at a resonable price.

    Best Regards,

    Geo.
