La Paloma is not an Italian song. It was written by a Basque composer whose name is Sebastina Iradier. BTW, he is the same guy who wrote the Habanera, that Bizet used in his Carmen; the French composer thought that it was a folk song. The Basques call their own country Euskadi, and their language is called Euskara. They are fighting to gain independence from Spain.
