  • 1:45 hahaha

  • The best!!!

  • This scene shows why I still love Seinfeld. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who could keep a straight face during this scene with Philip Baker Hall.

  • @Gabepaullikegirls rofl it might be!

  • Here's a newsflash for ya Joy Boy

  • I always loved watching Jerry smile during the episodes, but it's really funny here because it fits so well with the dialogue. That's gold, Jerry!

  • I really don't blame Jerry for not being able to keep a straight face. Phil Baker Hall is like a comedic Harvey Keitel

  • "Finding drawings of --------- peepees and weewees. And The Cat In The Hat and The Five Chinese Brothers." Just brilliant stuff.

  • Seinfeld may be a good comedian, but man, and I mean this nicely, he is the crappiest actor, lol

  • I think this is the best performance I've ever seen in Seinfeld

  • Eleven seconds in and Jerry cannot help but crack a smile. One of the most memorable scenes from such a timeless show.

  • "You & your good time buddies..." LMAO

  • I had the honor of meeting Mr. Hall in the airport several years ago. He was sitting a few seats away from me in the terminal. I leaned over and very quietly said, "Excuse me, I don't mean to bother you, but I just wanted to say that I've seen you in countless movies but without question, you were the best guest character EVER on Seinfeld." He could have not have been more gracious - and his wife said people call him "Bookman" all the time - even as far away as China! LOL Very nice man!

  • @choirboy59 thats pretty awesome

  • PBH Rocks!

  • That librarian chick is hot. Kramer has good taste.

  • Mr. Bookman is such a prick. He's definitely a little prick. An involved little prick.

  • @NeilFraudstrong

  • Mr. Bookman, Shouldn't you be on a ledge somewhere? oh man, that guy was a riot

  • I love how Jerry can't keep a straight face

  • Philip Baker Hall is friggin' HILARIOUS.................he was also funny in the short-lived Fox sitcom The Loop.................anyone remember that show?

  • @lurch321

If you notice, you can see Jerry just barely stay in character when he asks him if it's all a big joke to him.

  • LMAO, Mr. Bookman is funny as hell

  • "what about that kid sitting down at the local library finding drawings of pee pee's and wee wee's" oh man that bit cracked me up just the way he said it was hilarious

  • "i got a flash for ya joyboy"!

    hilarious!

  • Good recording. I swear Jerry is trying not to burst out laughing.

  • It looks like Jerry has a painting of Obama hanging above his computer.

  • Great acting.

  • Library book is returned -- 45 years late. Mar 19 2010 - Reuters

  • what a great job by Baker Hall

  • its freeze dried, freeze dried crystals. god i love this show

Lt Bookmans abrupt turns and finger movements cracked me up every time

    "Joyboy" hahahaha

  • Joy Boy!

  • Classic!!!

  • You & your 'good time' buddies!

  • I hoped the audience gave him a standing ovation.

  • what audience?

  • drawings of peepee's and weewee's hahahahaha

  • Jerry's trying desperately not too laugh. One of the greatest comedians ever getting pushed by the great Phillip Baker Hall.

  • best scene ever.

  • That guy should have won a Emmy for that scene.

    Excellent!

  • Joy Boy!!! Yeah!

  • aing how the shothat sce man

  • Gotta wonder how Jerry and Philip got through that bit without just cracking up on set. You could tell Seinfeld was on the verge the entire time.

  • I wonder how many times they had to shoot this scene. I'd imagine Seinfeld kept bursting out laughing right in mid-rant. I know I would.

  • I love the finger pointing stuff the guy does, its so funny when he does that and then starts speaking.

  • this scene belongs in the smithsonian museum.

  • Comment removed

  • that's some of the best writing you're ever likely to see

  • It's amazing how many famous scenes and people appeared on Seinfeld. the soup nazi, the low talker and the puffy shirt, bookman, the JFK baseball assassination, the pony remark, the contest, and the list goes on, greatest show in history

  • Yeah and then put it next to an absolute piece of trash like Friends and it's even more amazing.

  • Damn right

  • I know your type! Flashy!

  • I know your type! Flashy! Flaunting convention! Making a scene!

  • hahaha, finding drawings of peepees and weewees in the cat in the hat. I remember my sixth grade textbooks were all filled with these drawings

  • Mr. Hall is fantastic. Many people wish that his character was given many more scenes. But he said in an interview that after his role as Bookman, he never really had to audition for a job ever again. Nice break for a nice guy.

  • "You and your good time buddies!" Classic.

  • lmao

  • One of the best scenes of Seinfeld!

  • he was the chief of police in the rush hour trilogy. he does a good job as a cop

  • That is maybe the best single scene in the history of the show. Philip Seymour Hoffman started getting regular work in big movies after that aired.

  • Philip Seymour Hoffman? What the hell are you talking about?

  • Ha! You're right! Phillip Baker Hall. He's good.

  • hahahhahahahahaha

  • "Well let me give u a hint junior.." He stays in the same monotone the whole time! This is really hilarious!! Should have brought him back for another episode!! LMAO

  • They showed this clip at our school.

  • lol @ the very end with the librarian

  • this is so funny. everytime i watch it. it never gets old. funniest episode ever.

  • Hate laugh tracks.

  • u have problems

  • .....maybe that's how you get your kicks, you and your good time buddies....LMAO

Everytime I see this scene, it makes my day.

    Best scene ever!

  • This is like an ice cream man named "Cone".

  • That Has To Be One OF The Funniest Clips Ever I Couldnt Stop Laughing

  • I've watched this dozens of times and it makes me laugh every time.

  • me also it's hilarious

  • Working on memorizing this...

  • You buy a jar you put it in the cupboard you forget about it and then when you need it you take it out. It lasts forever, it's freeze-dried.

Best knowledge ever. Hahahahaha. "Joy boy."

  • Mr. Bookman has the greatest way of saying what is on his mind. I wish I had his guts...... GREATEST Seinfeld episode of mine....

  • lol, this is one the best scenes in Seinfeld... nay, one of the best scenes of all time.

The actor who portrays Bookman does a fantastic job, I don't know if it's his rapid fire delivery or his dead-seriosness during the scene, but he always makes me laugh, even though I've already seen the episode.

    Superb scene. Hilariously good.

  • best episode

  • I've seen your type before - flashy- making the scene- flaunting convention..you and your good-time buddies...

    HA!

  • epic

    Classic Seinfeld. Love it!!!! JM

  • oh yeah, he was amazing, this was probably the funniest episode ever

  • That is one hard-boiled librarian

  • O my god. I can't get enough of this scene. I laugh my guts out every time.

That library cop takes his job way too seriously.

  • I can't stop laughing at the sarcastic half smile the library cop gives when he says, "or maybe that's how you get your kicks."

    Amazing clip!!

  • maybe that's how you get your kicks lol

  • this scene will always make me laugh no matter how many times I see it.

  • I feel the same way.

  • you and youre good time buddies

  • Best show ever! Well, after the Simpsons : )

  • probably little better then the older simpsons episodes and far, far better then the crap that is the new episodes of simpsons

  • You got seven days, Seinfeld - that is ONE WEEK.

  • merciless deadpan delivery

Bookman was probably the best "one off" character in Seinfeld history.

  • 1971.. Bad year for libraries.

Sure, we're too old to change the world, but what about that kid, sitting down, opening a book right now, in a branch at the local library..and finding drawings of..peepee's, and weewee's. In The Cat in the Hat, and The Five chinese Brothers.

I got a flash for you, joyboy. Party time is over.

  • Magnificent.. I could watch this all day. Think his character was supposed to be a spoof of those old detective shows..Dragnet etc, I believe that was what they said in the dvd commentary anyway.

    Flashy. Making the scene.

  • This is to Mike and Sam (The New Zealand Goddess) to wish you a very happy christmas from laser boy. Huia`s gain is our loss. Are you still up for a visit this winter/spring or have you come to your senses?

  • Well i got a flash for you joy boy lol This is one of the funniest clips of seinfeld ever

  • Jerry was trying so hard not to laugh during the scene and one time he does laugh so Hall starts improving with the "laugh if you want to" bit...genius

  • One of the best Seinfeld scenes ever. Philip Baker Hall is awesome!

  • you just think this is all a big joke don't ya!

  • "You and your good time buddies" LMFAO

  • Not exagerating, this is one of the funniest clips ever shown on television! Thanks for posting it.

  • Wow, a slow zoom at 1:40. They were really gettin their 'noir on!

Thanks for posting this, I heard it on the radio coming home and hoped someone had it up so I could see it.

  • Yeah, havn't thought about it, pretty genius.

  • Can someone please tell me the REAL humor behind this skit....It was very amusing to me the way mr. bookman was ranting on....but the crowd was really into it....Is he known for ranting on like that...with those funny punch lines?

  • I think the real humor is that a library investigator is taking his job way too seriously as if he was a murder detective, and making the false accusions (except the fact that he never did return the book) of Jerry like he was a killer. The narrative also contributed a lot to the humor too of course.

  • its like a spoof of old film noirs. the detective was always some mistrusting nosey hardass-like bookman so they make it humorous by replacing a murder mystery with a book mystery

  • Think Philip Baker Hall usually only does these serious roles.. I haven't checked IMDB, but the one that comes to mind is Magnolia

  • Thanx for synching!

  • wow that is a great clip.. sync is important in this scene. thanks for fixing that

  • The best!!!

  • hahahahahaaaaaa, so good

  • Great clip!
